Linux on the Playstation 3 does is not capable of running a torrent downloader application. But for Divx, your best bet is to run it off your XMB considering you can run it off there now if you upgraded to 2.10!

Have Fun man and best hopes to you!

Yep. And the best/easiest way to get files into your ps3 is "ps3 media center" or put it on a memory card/hdd and plug it in. I love my ps3.

Can ps3 run divx movies that are in 720p or higher hey if so wouldn't that be a alternative to buying bluray discs
normally a hd divx movies are around 2 to 4 gb isn't it.
Question 2
can those divx compatible dvd players with hdmi out play hd divx movies .is the video quality reduced in anyway when the video is transmitted.if it's not can we experience hd with out buying hddvd or bluray player.

I would presume that the PS3 could play 720p Divx movies since the PS3 is made to handle that. You 2nd question is not completely related with this section, so I cannot answer it.

Hope that helps you out!

Have Fun

Yes, the PS3 with the latest update can run DiVX and XViD movies. I've tested it myself. Simply copy allyour movies to anexternal hard-drive (or burn them on a data DVD-ROM) and you're good to go.

If they don't show up in the XMB, go to the movies icon, scroll down to your removable drive or DVD-ROM or CD-ROM (but don't select it, just highlight it). Then hit the Triangle button and select "View All". Every single file on the storage device will now be displayed.
