I looked everywhere! Is City Navigator North America 2008 Not popular? Everywhere I looked they don't have the unlock code for PC, just only DEMO, so GPS function will be disabled in the device. Can anyone provide an unlock code for the PC??!?

it should be installed on the Mass Storage (External Memory) the way to install it is connect your phone to PC via Transfer Mode and run the GMXT installer it will detect your memory card and will install into it..

It installs on the card. When you buy this from Garmin, it comes pre-installed on a microSD card.

thanks for the advice wayne. so i should uninstall them in app manager taskman does that run in memory fort it only ran when you loaded it. also nokia maps license would that stop nokia maps from running. which i could find where the nokia maps are i downloaded about 3gigs on maps only really need UK And OZ and im low on the memory after installing this brillant app.

I thought so too. Taskman only uses 200KB more when running than after an exit, but you will get 2MB more when deleting it. Guess it has something running in the background that can't be shut down.

Nokia Maps runs without License Manager, but I am not sure you can navigate/buy maps without it. Doesn't matter to me, because it is so bad anyway.

When you get rid of both taskman and license manager you should never have a problem running Garmin again.

Nokia Maps are stored on the E: drive. If you are using the later version it is stored in E:\cities, the older version stores in E:\Private\20001f63

I decide to post here because this is most common discussion about GMXT.
I was read all that you everyone wrote about GMXT, and I also installed GMXT on my SE P1i.
Instalation on UIQ3 is OK + all support files are OK also map is unlocked but I have one minor problem.
My position on map is not correct.
It show that I am on position near my origin location, what could be the problem?
I tryed with Europe map and also with AdriaRoute map.
The same thing happens.

yes you did the steps right and it should install to the Mass Storage Memory .. and it won't install into the internal memory of the phone that's ok and you don't want it there to start with... most maps are big files and they won't fit in the internal memory ..

how off is your position?? it's normal to get 20-40 meters off the original postilion.. open the GPS Data program and you will see the accuracy of the position there.. always off by 20-40 meters and sometimes more.. depends on the # of Sat's you get.. on a professional GPS devices you would get +-10 meters.. and on high ends GPS which exceeds 20K + USD you will get lower error.. and so on..

OK, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. The program unlocks just fine but I can't get the maps to unlock on my phone.

I've followed these directions to the T. I downloaded and unlocked City Navigator North America NT 2008 and tried every way I could think of to get the maps onto my phone. There was an IMG file to put onto a Garmin device, that didn't work. I tried exporting maps with Mapsouce, Map Installer, and Map Installer for Mac, none of those worked. I even tried copying the IMG file from a Nuvi with no success.

Using the keygen, I tried both the Card ID and Device ID. Card ID worked great for the program itself, but nothing seems to work with the map.

Someone mentioned that using Map Installer or Mapsource to install the maps, you are building a custom map and need to use the map ID to unlock, not the product name. Well I tried mapedit.exe (http://www.geopainting.com/en/) but it wasn't able to read the IMG file created by Mapinstall, et al. It said it was an invalid header. (Or something along those lines)

Any ideas?

You can see MapID in Registriy under Garmin/MapSoruce or some maps have MapID in installation folder like FAM_XXX.

I get +-10m accuracy outside (on the open sky)
In my house I have the same problems (+-300m) but that is because walls and iron in them, and week satellite signal.

One more thing that can influence GPS accuracy is USA army. They can change frequency and time on the atom clocks in GPS satellites to lower accuracy. It's connected with USA army activities. They fear someone will use GPS against them.

And it depends on quality and quantity of GPS satellites and signals. In Croatia timeframe 11-14h is not so good for GPS usage. It's all about GPS constellation...

At least it's my case, my experience. "Don't try this at home, try it on the road, let the phone antenna face the sky"

Nokia N95 have old, cheap & sleazy GPS chipset, that is PROBLEM.
SirfStarIII is standard today and that is god GPS chipset.
Nokia should embed in that GPS chip for better performance in this price rang, but ...

make sure your a-gps is turned on
make sure a-gps has connection to the internet
make sure your slide is opened

mine starts within 5sec after app is started (after cold boot) with almost full signal
the more people use a-gps, the better it works since the locations get saved in nokia database.

works almost as good as sirf III
with a-gps even better than sirf III units at least regarding cold starts.
n95 after reboot 5-10 sec in my area
sirf III 45-60 sec after rebooting the unit

I have tryed outside, with OEM BT GPS reciver and with Nokia BT GPS reciever.
Differences is only in 1 or 2 satellittes, but always i get 5 satellittes for sure.
I also reinstall GMXT few times but always the same situation.

Five satellites not so good, i had 11 - 12 sometimes and of course nice accuracy, with 5 not so good but steel on the track.

Ok i think i got it all.i just wanna ask you we finally should have both freebase map and map we want in garmin folder except GMAPSUPP.UNL and SW.UNL and how do we understand if we have finally unlocked the map?now i i have map iu want in garmin but it opens freebasemap when i press show map.what should we do if we want to have more than one map installed?i mean fileanems will be the same...

Garmin Mobile XT works with any BT GPS device - not only on Nokia N95 or other Nokias that have internal GPS devices..
Some time ago, Mobile XT was tied to Garmin GPS devices. But now, the licence resides in the SD CARD\Garmin folder.
To make it all work..
1. Download Garmin Mobile XT GPS, for example from: http://rapidshare.com/files/71698800/GarminMobileXTFullImage_4xxxx.rar. Run the EXE, it will copy all files to your SD card.. (I used a card reader instead of plugging in my phone, but you can,just be sure to select USB transfer mode)

2. Download update, for example from: http://rapidshare.com/files/71684129/GarminMobileXTforSymbianS60_41020.rar. Run EXE, it will copy all your files to SD card..

3. You have to download for example - Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 with a working unlock key. There are keys that say that the map is unlocked but in reality it is still locked! So get a proper one ..

4. Once installed on PC and unlocked!, you can select any country/ies on the map and export these on your uSD/SD card - select the countries you want and EXPORT to the SD card.

5. On page 35 you can find all the mapID codes - for.ex, maps created with MapSource + Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 = ID 197 .. it doesent matter how many countries you select in MapSource, the ID is always 197..

6. Back to page 1 - grab the keygen.

7. Run Garmin Mobile XP on your phone, go to the ABOUT screen, write down the CARD ID

8. Enter the CARD ID in the keygen (page 1), choose the MAP PRODUCT (or custom mapset - use the ID's from page 35), click on the 1st generate, then on the 2nd generate.

9. Create the files sw.unl and gmapsupp.unl, what you have to paste is written the TXT file that came with the keygen, READ IT!

10. Copy the 2 above files to SD CARD\Garmin

11. Run Garmin Mobile XT, it will try to connect to your GPS device - and yes, ANY GPS BT device and any phone!! That's because the unlock codes are now in the GARMIN directory.

12. In SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS -> your BT GPS name will be shown.

13. IF you don't create the 2 files as mentioned in step 9, THEN in SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS --> you can ONLY pair with a GARMIN GPS DEVICE!!

Clear enough for anyone now? I hope so! I guess I will have to buy some nice TOPO maps now, I already own a TOMTOM device for street navigation..

Garmin Mobile XT works with any BT GPS device - not only on Nokia N95 or other Nokias that have internal GPS devices..
Some time ago, Mobile XT was tied to Garmin GPS devices. But now, the licence resides in the SD CARD\Garmin folder.
To make it all work..

Finaly I tested my P1i with GMXT much more on the road but still showing wrong place on the map. ( This time AdriaRoute ).

I still havent tried it, still downloading the 1.3GB europe map.... but from your screenshots I was not aware that Garmin has such horrible map graphics on the screen, they look even worse than the TomTom's! :P I was under the impression that Garmin had more detailed, nice looking 3D maps like Navigon has.

i had same problems with greece map but its not so detailed as other countries maps to see how wrong is my place located.maybe maps are with wrong longitude and latidute.

drobo check the settings of the location under Setting>Syetem>Location Format and Datum... try playing around with those settings and see what you get... if the datum is wrong (not the same one with the map) you might get false readings... and you may get errors if you area falls into two different zones..

for downloading torrents my recomandation: uTorrent

used utorrent the best and simplest imo.
took me bout 16 hours to get it.
the trick is to seed after dload and keep ratio 1:1 at least.

problem is most people just leech and delete torrent not seeding at all, so instead of speeds increasing for the others they seem to be going down. pls seed

100% sure.. I don't have a Garmin GPS, just some generic cheap BT GPS ;) It doesent even have SirF Star II/III chipset.. but it's quite accurate and shows my position almost precisely

if you want whole europe map on memory and if you have space put gmapsupp.img, generate the keys and thats it.
personally i like smaller custom maps better. so burn the first file .mds.mdf to cd (you can also load it with daemon without burning) and install and unlock on the computer and then use mapsource to select and send just your country or even just area to phone and generate image. the same keymaker should work.

Supposing gmapsupp.img is your desired map, just copy it to your card Garmin dir.
Else use mdeamon with the .mds and install MapSource on your PC, select the region you want and then transfer to your device/card.

if you can't get your ID Card from the about menu try using MapSource and go to Utilites and then click on Get Device ID... and make sure you connect your phone to the PC using Transfer Mode..

if you can't get your ID Card from the about menu try using MapSource and go to Utilites and then click on Get Device ID... and make sure you connect your phone to the PC using Transfer Mode..

If you want to use Metroguide (I have heard that MetroGuide has more detailed maps) instead of CityNavigator you should use this attached file (just run it and follow the instructions), MetroGold. MetroGold will enable calculation data for routing. You must have MetroGuide MapSource installed.

Ok. So I have the software working and paired to my Nokia BT GPS. I used the keygen and generated keys for the software and also for the Map Product "City Navigator North America NT 2008"

I downloaded the City Navigator North America NT 2008 Update from above.

I burned the ISO to a DVD and tried to install. It is looking for an 8 digit product code. Any ideas?

I see three image files on the disk under the IMG subdirectory: gmappromA.img, gmappromL.img, gmappromU.img

the files total about 2.4 GB. Can I use these files?

I have read every thread so far and am still stumped. ANy help is appreciated.

For phones with MMC card like N70 you must use IMEI and IMEI to unit ID covertor from JetMouse to get valid unlock code from KGen.

Procedure is:
1: get your IMEI number
2: Download "IMEI to Unit ID calculator" from http://rapidshare.com/files/72538254/converter.rar.html
3. Convert your IMEI to Unit id..
4. The rest is same as other phones (input card id to Kgen atc.)

I wish there was a way simpler steps of installation. First time I am installing this and I tried to read everything and Im still lost. I downloaded all the files from the first page and it's like so vague. Can we put the maps somewhere on the memory card? I got one for Canada in .img format

Do you guys have a clue why after installing, it wont run on my n95. It says cannot run due to security reasons. And I cant find any other info on the read me file.

About Holux M-1000, I concur it doesn't work with gmxt yet, but my Holux 236 works flawlessly.

Bad news for holux m1000 owners...

I was try nokia BT GPS (ld-3w) with my N70 and it work ok. Everything is same as previous try with holux except GPS modul. Nokia work, holux not.

This is some incompatibility between GMXT and holux M1000. M1000 work ok with tomtom and other gps application what i try.

I was try this on GMXT version 4.10.20 and 4.10.40 with same result.

I hope garmin will resolve this incompatibility in some further version. Also I hope that keygen will work on this version...:)

Only the bas maps are available ... I don't know how if possible to see this other South Africa (Nuvi 200) map ....

When using Garmin Navigation Softwares, it's good to have Mapsource in your PC where you use it to view installed mapsets, creates waypoints, as well as transfer them to your device. Just thought I would update my post.

I was able to make the map work. I basically copied the gmappromA.img onto the SD Card under the Garmin directory and renamed it gmapsupp.img.

I am pretty sure that the gmappromU.img contains the Canada data. gmappromU.img also looks like N.American Data??

So far it is working well with my E61 and LD-1W GPS.

I also have TomTom, but so far I like the interface of Garmin better.

I am still downloading that image right now.

However, I got mine to work already tho I am not sure if its working properly. Like when I open the app and click on view map, I dont see nothing but when I move the up or down arrow key on my cell, it shows the map on the screen and shows me my right location.

I have come to this conclusion as when you go into the menu:
Tools - Manage My Data - Map Sets: it lists 1. Detailed maps e:\Garmin\
I select it for more detail and I get:

City Navigator North America NT 2008
City Navigator North America NT 2008 ALL
e:\Garmin 1041.6 MB

When I had the 430MB file on my disk (w/no other .img file) it said:
City NavigatorNorth America NT 2008 Canada or something like that...

I think that the problem of accuracy of royaltek bluetooth is the datum (wgs 84)...

you must reset to default all settings and start again .. select language ,metric ..etc ..like the first time you installed garmin .After you do that and you go to remote gps you will see that is asking you to select bluetooth gps or attached gps .

there shouldn't be mapsource showing there... you already got a map there ... if you want you can download the Free Basemap...

You must download Garmin City Navigator MapSource (for example).
You have to unlock it (serial or keygen).

For Europe and US file size is over one gig. Go to isohunt.com
and search for Garmin.

Does anyone know how to unlock some new maps for a garmin c530? I read through this entire thread, and have the Device ID for the c530, but I'm unsure of how to unlock it. I tried the Keygen and it says it doesn't work for Mapsource.. I'm basically trying to unlock it on windows XP and transfer it to my garmin.

I did use the temporary unlock of "DEMO" for the pc, but I'm unsure of how I can unlock it for my actual Garmin unit. Yeah I got the unlock code that came with the map DVD and it's 25 characters. When I run the map it's asking for an 8 character product key. Nothing came with the dl so I'm at a loss. Searching now, but does anyone have a lead?

Sorry, I should've been more clear. I was using DEMO for the 25 char unlock code. So.. to get the map to work on my Garmin..

I transfer the map using mapsource to the garmin (or SD card), then place the GMAPSUPP.UNL file with only the unlock code in it in the same directory as the new map file? I'm just getting stuck on unlocking the damn map..

I checked out some torrents and did not find an unlock key for the DVD install. Check out my previous posts as I have a working solution by renaming the *.img files on the disk (iso) and placing them on your Card. The keygen supplies the key to make them work at that point.

Ok, so you're saying I basically just copy over the .img files onto an sd card, and then create a GMAPSUPP.UNL file w/ the key from the keygen and that's it? Thanks alot!

You MIGHT find unlock code there.

The 25 letter key apparently unlocks the maps once it is in Mapsource. The key we are looking for is to unlock the DVD (NT North America 2008) we downloaded.

Here's what I did to make the software work for the North America Maps DVD:

1. Install Garmin to your device. I used an SD card reader and the installer recognized it and installed to it. When I put the card back in my E61, it installed fine.

2. Use the keygen in post #1 to generate the 2 unlock files. Note that the keygen will generate a key for the NT North America 2008 maps by default (press the second keygen button).

3. Downloaded the NA map from the post on Page 43

4. Unpack the .rar and the .iso (I burned the .iso to DVD)

5. on the DVD you will find a IMG directory with 3 .img files in it.

6. Copy one .img file to your Card (in my case a miniSD Card) and rename to gmapsupp.img
Note: The largest file is US and Canada, the second largest is US only, the third is Canada only, so you should only need one of the files.

7. Fire up Garmin and enjoy.

I did notice one minor "feature". When in map view (not 3D view), the map appears to not be there. That is because the scale is set at 800 miles. You will have to zoom in to an appropriate level to see map detail.

Same thing happens to me . The solution is this : select atashed gps ,not bluetooth gps on settings /system /remote gps . Try it and you see that the accuracy is improved.

turn on bluetooth, start garmin go to settings external gps then exit, connect to your
gps, start nokia maps till you have position leave prog running (red button) then start garmin. reply if it works.

Does any one have the same problem after install Garmin XT on your mobile. I have install it ona my Nokia 6110 Navigator and after it my phone have to odd behaviour with # key. All works but coordinates are not good. Tried different maps, with different External BT GPS IMHO the application is not correctly cracked. :fart: The demo mode works as it should. I have seen other replies within this thread that confirm my problem. :argue: I still would like to hear somebody say that it works, meaning that te programme gives the correct position. Anybody?? Yes it is a keygen, you are correct. But if it does not work with GPS systems other then Garmin I find it useless. I have two Sirf III GPs and they both are very aqurate with all navigation program's so far. Anyway too bad.

It works fine with N95 internal GPS - but unfortunately that doesn't help you I'm afraid...sorry.

I haven't tried it with my Holux 236 GPS receiver, but given your experiences I don't think I'll tempt fate.

But it is a hardware problem, not a problem with the keygen.

Anybody manage to load the softwer on Nokia 6630 and try if it works. I didn't manage even though i got IMEI convertor tool to get ID.
And for notice - strange but old Wayfinder GPS doesn't work with Garmin softwer - but work with TOM TOM on same device.

Does someone know the big difference between the NT map version and the regular one? I d/led the non-NT version and am wondering if it's useable on garmin gps devices with just a larger memory card, like a 2 gig card.

One other note.. there is an image directory, except the file name is gmapprom.rgn rather than a .img file. Will this work if I change the extension to .img from .rgn or just leave it as rgn? Thanks.

I found a much simpler way to identify map ID's.. I ripped it from another forum:

To find out your Map ID, do the following:
1. Go to either [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Famil ies\<YOUR MAP>] or [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Garmin\Mapsource\Produ ct\<YOUR MAP>] with a registry editor
2. Check the "ID" REG_BINARY. That is your MapID (in HEX). You have to convert it from HEX to decimal (do not forget to reverse the byte order when coverting)

Ok.. I've been doing alot of reading and I THINK I finally have a good idea wtf is going on..

So, the .img files are the map files.. the thing is, they're usually in the .cab file of the DVD disc, so how were some people finding them under the IMG directory? The d/l I got is a .rar that extracts to folders, no an iso. I'm trying to upgrade the map software of my c530, and it seems like I need to use img2gps software, and enter the corresponding 25 char string that corresponds to the device ID from my c530. Do I have that right?

My only problem is that I can't get the NT north american map set working, and the non-NT version is huge if I include all the .img files. img2gps doesn't have a simple/easy way to select only local/specific american maps when you select them, so I'm curious how people got only 3 .img files as opposed to the ~100+ that seem to be tar'd up in the disc1.cab file?

Last thing, when using a garmin oem gps unit like a c530, you don't use a .unl file correct? The only way is to use img2gps and include the correct hash string? Thanks..

NT version is more compressed.

Only .img files will work as a map.

ok for those having problems finding the Map ID (only if the maps installed in the computer) run this program http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=1645728&postcount=255here and you will see the map ID as FID ... see the picture

and for people with only .img file download MapEdit open the .img with mapedit and you will get an error like in the picture ... see the circled portion of the image that's your map ID take the last three digits and that's ur map ID...

Ok, I've gotten the file to transfer correctly with mapsource, but I get an error "unable to open map" when turning on the garmin, so it can't read the map... Ok, I've gotten the file to transfer correctly with mapsource, but I get an error "unable to open map" when turning on the garmin, so it can't read the map... hmm..I used Mapsource USA NT 2008, highlight the entire North America than downloaded it from PC to my Nokia N95 using Mapsource ...took like 40 minutes to d/l 1.7GB of files, ran the Garmin XT from my Nokia and worked perfectly

The only thing I had to do was unlock Mapsource and make sure the same unlock code is in the GMAPSUPP.UNL file located on my phone

Yes the code it's working, but now I have another problem: I can't install the update to version 2.16. Mine it's 2.12. When I try to install it says that "Previous installation of this product can't be found on this machine. Please make sure it's properly installed from original CD, then try again. [Error code:1]". Any ideas?
At the installation of v2.12 there is an error: "Cannot copy file: Cannot read from the source file or disk" and "Failed SHFileOperation", but after that everything it's fine and the map installes ok. For the installation I use an ISO image of ROAD2006 and daemon tools for mounting this file.

Hmm.. looks like my problem was the damn demo code being left in the mapsource program.. I added the .unl file and it didn't throw and error and it looks like it loaded! Thanks everyone for all the help!! :dance:
