2. problem..

after the installation the City Navigator Europe V9, Mapssource does not start.
"during the installation of mapsource is a problem, reinstall and start mapsource new".

But reinstall whit MapSource_6135 have no result.

Any ideas?

You need to uninstal mapsource, mapinstall....everything that is related with garmin, delete every file witch is related with the installed garmin soft (files from program files, from C:\ etc.). Then you have to delete from windows registry every key related with garmin or mapsource. Last reboot your pc and reinstall everything again.
This happened for me to when I tryed to update ROAD2006.

You can install as many maps as you want.

I know this is a little off topic, but I have a Garmin c340. I would like to unlock some maps for this device, but I have no way of generating the unlock codes. I was hopeful the scheme was the same and I could use the app provided for Mobile XT, but it did not work. Can anyone point me to a similar tool for other Garmin devices? Thanks!

I have about the same issue.

I can't find Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2008 in any format except IMG, with no PC unlock code.

I would like to be able to extract just my particular country (UK) from this map set, as it uses up so much storage.

I tried to convert the IMG in to MapSource with the MapsetToolkit, but cGPSMapper failed with an error.

Is there a MapSource version of Europe NT 2008, along with a PC unlock code, which I think is required to select individual maps from it?

I just got my Nokia E90 with Garmin Mobile XT version 4.10.10 installed;

Would the keygen work on this version or should I upgrade to version 4.10.20?

Also there is no card ID in my Help About, only an 'Unlock ESN'...or is it the same thing?

It did find my Holux GPSlim240, but the GPS position is totally not correct. One needs a Garmin GPS, so I removed the app and went back to Tom Tom, Nav4all and Nokia Maps.

Those of you have used TomTom Navigator, how would you rate Garmin??? I tried installing it but gave up after it never found my Holux.

Please please could someone post the latest (2008) UK map. Actually I only really want Ireland. I have downloaded the entire western europe but it is 1.4GB so too big for my memory card.

I tried to use mapsource but after an install, I just get an error message and it bombs out.

Hi SeaD.

Did you try the Map-ID 254? thats the "Master-Map-Id" and should work with all maps you choose from the BlueNav 9.5 DVD.

its the same princip as with the european city navigator dvd, you have ONE master Map ID which unlocks ALL sub-Maps which are included in the mapsource file.

Try it and let us know... i teste it with some german nautical maps and it worked perfectly...

(by the way, now i am trying to add my europe map and the nautical map to have both at the same time :-)) i only dont know, how to choose between the maps in the garmin mobile xt software)

Thanks mate. I used auto settings, but it failed. Ill try manual settings.

p.s. regarding bluemaps and map id, i have testet and checked, that you realy only need the main map id to calculate the key, it doesnt matter, which local maps you copy to the card.

THEN PUT IT IN GARMIN AS PER INSTRUCTIONS IT WILL WORK hope this helps us uk people who carn't do it !!!

I tested it on my n95 8gb.

After the crack/keygen bit, the internal gps receiver works fine.
The map was a problem. I downloaded the dvd called "Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9"
(inside is a .mdf image)

no need to download this cause it won't work.

To get the europe (with full details) map to work you need to have this file :
gmapsupp.img (1.3 gig)

(i downloaded it from megaupload, link is in this thread)

Place it in the same folder as the "GMAPSUPP.UNL" file (read about this file in the readme.txt file that came with the keygen)

Sweet mighty jesus..... this is an incredible app. screw route 66 ;)

To get the europe (with full details) map to work you need to have this file : gmapsupp.img (1.3 gig)

This is fine, if you don't mind filling your card with 1.3GB of data covering the whole of europe.

Better bet is to find a .iso copy of the europe NT9 maps (also about 1.3GB) and install it to MapSource - make sure you find an unlock code for it as well. Then you can select which regions you want and just upload those bits to your card instead.

Hi,

i'm trying to read as much as possible, but 68 pages is a lot. So maybe i missed the solution to my problem.
I did everything that was written in the tutorial, but i can't make maps to work.
At the moment i'm using Adriaroute 1.8. I've imported it into MapSource and unlock it there. I also copy it to my N95. But everytime i start Garmin i get the message "Can't unlock maps for Garmin Device with Unit ID *********. Do you want to unlock now."

And idea what kind of code my phone wants or what i did wrong ?

Hi, i take of the net the Bluechart Atlantic v9,5 and after unpacking there are next files in side the folder - i try with with Daemon tool and change mdf to img but there is no way to instal in Mapsorce.

Thanks for advice Sea D, i am not shure weather i manage with alcohol 120 or Daemom tools, but i manage to make a mount on computer install it both Bluechart and CT Navigator Europe NT v9 and i also manage to make a combination of maps in my img files together and it works.
I put together Adria Route 1.80 (SLO-CRO-BIH), sčg 1.41, Topoghrafic Slovenian and Nautical Adriatic sea - all maps unlock with keys put one after the other like this:

I was able succefully install garmin Xt on my PPC but it does not say the streetname while giving voice guided directions.(just says Turn Right). Anybody else facing similar issue? please let me know if i am missing something with this installation. I have NorthAmeirca 08 maps.

I must say that I sucessfully installed GMXT and some maps onmy N95. It works great with internal GPS.

Additionally I would like to have Europe NT v9 + AdriaRoute together on my N95 and I don't know how to do it. I have been read all post but no success til now.
I have Europe NT v9 unlocked in MapSource and I have Adriaroute.img file which work on N95 and I also have Adriaroute for PC but without unlock key for MapSource. How to put this thing together into single img file ?!

Any suggestion how to put both maps on my phone ?!

Hi everybody!

I've read all the pages twice, but still have a problem..

I installed the pgm without any problem..

I downloaded the european map (see p43) : Garmin city navigator NT 9
My problem is : how can i get the maps working? With mapinstall the 25 digits number allows me to unlock the map but i have to register after that (in order to really unlock the map). They need a 7 digits number. I don't have it.

My question : I used the keygen to create a gmasupp.unl. But where can i find the map? it's locked! It seems to be in a cab file! Can i extract it?

My problem looks like this: I've got inside my device Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2008 map (1.3Gb) and GPmapa_2007_1 map (100mb) and i'm using 2Gb sd card so i got about 500mb free. I've just discovered that gmxt, in particular the hidden, auto run task tsrautostart.exe, is causing problem in my 6120c. When tsrautostart.exe is loaded, my # key that acts as the pen key replacement is behaving as an on/off toggle button for selecting. Normally I have to press and hold the # key together with the directional button to select text / items. Now when texting, and I want to change the input mode by using the # key (T9 to multitap and vice versa), then press the directional buttons to move the cursor, the text is selected as if I keep pressing and holding the # key. Another example, when I go to contact / file manager, press the # key, release it, the press the down button, the items are selected. To unselect them I must press the # key once again, then press the up button to deselect the items. Oddly, selecting items the usual way (# + d-buttons) does not work. My E50 does not exhibit this problem because it has the pen key.

Starting the phone without memory card, solves the problem, because tsrautostart.exe is not loaded (I use phonetinfo to find out). Renaming or deleting the file(s) in \Apps\Symbian\bin has no effect, tsrautostart.exe is still running from somewhere. I have tried both v4.10.20 and v4.10.40.

Do any other newer phones that have no pen key have the same problem? If so, any solution to this? TIA

Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2008

Hi all, after reading all of these posts numerous times I am still stuck with the problem of activating the installed map id.
Garmin XT starts and requests the 25 digit code to unlock the map but wont let me manually enter it on the phone - have tried keygen with 197, 284 and even 144 but still wont unlock map - tried mapedit but doesnt give full information from img file as shown on previous posts - can anyone help me finish off the process surely I am almost there?

but the thing is that i already have the map ID... But i cannot use it as my map (1,3Gb) is in a .cab file and not an image one.. (i downloaded city nav Europe 9 from page 43 and everything was extracted and successfully installed)
With mapinstall i see my locked map. I enter the 25 digits unlock number.. then it says that the map is unlocked but i need to register to unlock the map definitively!!! When i try to register i need a 7 digits number which i don't have..

can someone please tell me how to add more than map on Garmin, i have one map loaded already and it reads it fine, i changed the map to gmapsupp.img and it worked perfect, but when i try to add the second map it doesnt read it, i cant use same name because then it ask to replace the file, so i tried gmapsupp1.img and still cant find map. Any suggestions, i have a mac so the easiest way for me to do it is to just copy and paste file from my comp to my memory card, because it seems not much is compatible. Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks arek11 - it seems it may have partially accepted the map id and now accepts my external GPS and the rest of it works to a degree - only thing is although on the top bar it says the name of the road the map area is blank and there is some small writing bottom right of screen saying 'no map'
In the mapsets screen in tools section says there is a map ok, the only other thing is there is no sound.

Does this give anyone any clues to helping me?

Hi "JRNY"

To unlock GPS you do not need map. To unlock GPS you need corectly generated key from top filed in keygen. Put it to sw.unl file and save this file to E:\garmin on your card. It unlock GPS and have nothing to detailed maps.

To unlck detail map you need correctly generated key from bottom field in keygen to generate it you need correctly mapID. Put generated number to gmapsupp.unl and save to E:\garmin

If you need two map:
first map name gmapsupp.img and put key to gmapsupp.unl
second map name gmapsup2.img and put key to gmapsup2.unl

If you need more than two maps you need to use MapSource Garmin software to create your own map set with all map you want and it saves it to your device as gmapsupp.img

I have done exactly as you say - using keygen and program starts fine - gps is unlocked and is working fine - it even tells you what road you are driving on in the map display screen. From what I can see everything is working fine but there is no map being shown and in the bottom right hand corner it says 'no map'. There is no sound either (voice).
I have put the additional voice & help folders in the garmin directory aswell.

Could it be a bad map? - seem to think plenty of other people have got it working though.............

Really hoping someone has an answer.

Make more zoom, becouse detaile maps are used after big zoom. If you do not use zoom garmin use based map and if do not have it, it show no map. (I gues :) )
Do you install base map? It is for free download from garmin site.

Please can someone help me with MapSource?

I have downloaded the 1.4GB europe map and just want to extract Ireland from it.

I installed Mapsource but whenever I run it it says 'Mapsource could not find any installed mapsource map products'

I copied the gmapsupp.img to both the garmin directory and the mymaps directory but still get the message.

What am I doing wrong? If I need any other downloads, please let me know the links.

I have the program working on my N95 with an older map (I just copied the gmappsupp.img to the folder on my phone and generated the 2 keys - it works great but I would really like the latest 2008 maps.

*.img files are not for MapSource, it is only for device (i.e. Mobile XT installed on s60 phone).
To use maps in Mapsource you need instal version of map. City Navigator Europe NT 2008 a the moment is only avialable in img format not for MapSource. Europe for MapSource avialable at the moment is City Navigator Europe NT 9.

I have the same problem with my E90. Only solution I found is to use task manager:

and close tsrautostart.exe from running in the phone memory.
Unfortunately I have to do this everytime I run Garmin, use the USB cable or restart the phone but it only takes me 30 seconds and then my # key works fine.

Few more tips:

If you want to use two set of maps (two IMG files), this can be done by using GMAPSUP2.IMG name. This means you can have on E:\Garmin directory:

GMAPSUPP.IMG
GMAPSUPP.UNL

GMAPSUP2.IMG
GMAPSUP2.UNL

- Other numbers will not work, i.e. gmapsup3.img, etc. will not be seen by Garmin.
- Longer than 8 chars file names are useless, Garmin will read only first 8 chars.

If you don't want or can't use MapSource, then two applications might be useful:

- IMG2GPS from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mdipol/img2gps/, for creating GMAPSUPP.IMG or GMAPSUP2.IMG files (use the option "Create File instead of Upload" and then copy manually to memory card)
- GPSMapEdit from http://www.geopainting.com/en/, for visualising img files before using them in img2gpsany applications for a apple mac>

Just go to settings, choose internal GPS. Close the app and restart.

If this does not work, You have wrong key for your GPS.

you didn't put the correct unlock code if you don't see the internal GPS... get your card id and generate an unlock code from the keygen and put it in a file (create it one) and name it SW.UNL... and place that file in E:\garmin\ folder and it should see the internal gps

make sure the file you created doesn't have any other extension like SW.UNL.txt specially if you created it using notepad...

no that is all ok... but now i realized that i have changed my memory card,and have new firmware also...and from then didnt use my gps... before it was working on nokia maps,and route 66.... and now i tried to get gps signal on standard nokia navigation prog(built in) and i also cant get gps signal... so now i have to remember what i have done to work when i bought the phone ,i remember there was some problems also ...but i did get it working...

slide the phone open and go outside and wait for it to signal... you can get a signal inside the house but outside would be faster... you could also configure the A-GPS server by providing an access point...

thx for trying to help me..... but i just wont work :(...
finally i have got gps signal in nokiamaps ... so gps module is working ok...

and i did few times all from beginig for garmin,and still nothing :( ...

my id is ok... generated both keys.. put them in notepad,saved them like it says... copied them at my garmin folder in memory card... still nothing..

but i have some questions... when im saving in notepad it asks me filename,file type and encoding... filename i put like it says in instructions,file type i put allfiles(or should i put txt?)... and encodnig is maybe a problem what should i put ansi,unicode,unicode big endian or utf 8 that is my options? ... or all those options in notepad doesnt matter?

and when i put it in garmin folder in my memory card i put it in main garmin folder,or should put in some subfolder?

I have read and read the intructions on various forums regarding the Gar XT installation on my N95 with City Navigator v 8 North America. Honestly, there are so many bits and pieces of information spread all over the web that I am just not sure how to go about doing this.

Can some body here post his entire installation process with the US maps in a simple and "user friendly" way. As in like for some body who is not tech savy at all.

1. Copy folder garmin to root of your memory card
2. With file browser in your phone, browse to Garmin folder on memory card and click GarminMobileXT to install.
3. Now you will find GMobileXT in your Applications...run
4. Do language, metric and other settings
5. Select setting/about and write down id number/unlock esn code... close program and put memory card in card reader
6. Copy gmapsupp.iso from adriaroute folder to garmin folder on memory card
7. Run keygen... in first window write id number/unlock esn code...click generate and copy new number to new Notepad document. Save this document as SW.UNL but not as txt file. Example is in example folder. Dont use this example on your phone.
8. In second window /Select Map Product/ select custom mapset and type in 708. click generate...save number in new Notepad document and save as GMAPSUPP.UNL
8.1 Copy SW.UNL and GMAPSUPP.UNL in garmin folder on memory card
9. Insert card in phone, run program , cancel satelite/gps searching, go to settings/system/remote gps and select internal gps, confirm and go back in main menu. Now you can use navigation in Adria area.

10. Install City navigator europe and register with 25 digit code xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
11. Install city Navigator Middle East v3 and and folow Installation & Unlock.txt /// code for generating map unlock code is 142
12. Install Garmin-SLO_elevations_final_2... this is unlocked
13. Install adriaroute and unlock with xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
14. Run MapSource application on your pc and with map tool select needed parts on maps...on all four maps before transfering
15. insert card and transfer selected maps to memory card. Important is to transfer all maps together!!!!!!!!!! You can use Selecting and Saving Map Sets.swf flash for learnig how to use MapSource
16. insert card to phone and run navigation...when asked, unlock maps using keygen.
17. Now you can start using your Garmin navigation. If it is not working, go to step 1 and start again (and start to think u MF!).On N95 and E90 is working 100%. Garmin is using .iso files for maps on al units, so u can use this instruction also on other garmin navigation systems.

If you don't need some map you can skip 10,11,12 or 13

use all files with ANSI and when you place the the files put then in garmin no sub folders.. if you could take a screenshot of your garmin folder it would be great... ;)

i get it worked finaly :D ... first put support files,then i put GarminMobileXTforSymbianS60_41020 and install ... then i followed instructions with keygen again :D ... made files in notepad,copied them.. then i put the last version of garmin (Garmin_Mobile_XT_4.10.60_Multilanguage_Nokia) and install...first time didn`t do this last stepp maybe that is why not workin :D ...

and then i went to settings and there was my internal gps :D and i was so happy :D .... then i downloadaed adria rute 2.0 put it in keygen... get unlock code...then copied to garmin folder in phone... finally run the program asked me for unlocking code for adria rute,and i enter it...and it is all working now...

i get it worked finaly :D ... first put support files,then i put GarminMobileXTforSymbianS60_41020 and install ... then i followed instructions with keygen again :D ... made files in notepad,copied them.. then i put the last version of garmin (Garmin_Mobile_XT_4.10.60_Multilanguage_Nokia) and install...first time didn`t do this last stepp maybe that is why not workin :D ...

and then i went to settings and there was my internal gps :D and i was so happy :D .... then i downloadaed adria rute 2.0 put it in keygen... get unlock code...then copied to garmin folder in phone... finally run the program asked me for unlocking code for adria rute,and i enter it...and it is all working now...

you don't need to remove the images.. just remember their names and search them in the garmin folder and change their attribute using x-plore and change them to hidden and system file.. it won't show on the gallery anymore..

Extract .mdf file with MagicIso and copy to garmin folder on your memory card. You will have one problem. When u will replacace existing gmapsupp.iso, u will not be able to use adriaroute. Navigator europe nt9 and adriaroute are using same file gmapsupp.
It's better to find .exe file and install on your pc and transfer maps with MapSource.

On this sites and also on a lot of other, you can find small .img files. This small files are regions/parts of some map and they can be imported with MapSource. I'm just thinking how an maybe here is solution. Copy group of this iso file to one xfolder and after make registry entry. Here is one sample :

Maybe it is already described but if not here is solutiion of POSITIONING.
If you have problem on your Garmin XT with positioning on the map
then you'll need to go :

Settings - Restore Defaults
Choose language - english / Voice / Units

Then go to the

Settings - System - Remote GPS -
- And choose USE ATTACHED GPS,(not Bluetooth GPS).
Garmin will automatically search bluetooth devices if you don't have internal gps.

When it's finished you can modify your mobile xt language (settings - display - text)
It works on N73, and probablly with the other mobile phones witch don't have internal GPS, but have the GPS modul.

Hello everybody,

I have downloaded garmin and installed it on mine nokia n95. I have found the card id and paste the code in de sw.unl file. I also downloaded the dutch map in .img file type but i can't find the map id to generate a code to paste in the gmapsupp.unl file? Does anyone have this code for me to paste in the gmapsupp.unl and do i have to change the name of mine map from netherlands.img to gmapsupp.unl?

I hope you guys can help me out here.

Well, I found MAP ID for Greece map (which you can find at http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?p=1645800&highlight=greek#post1645800) using UltraEdit to find the HEX code for the img code then using the calculator I have translated HEX to Decimal and voila!

It's 198! Just use the keygen which try4deepak (http://www.ipmart-forum.com/member.php?u=153173) has released at his post and you'll have a working version of Garmin :)

Only thing is that you have to do the trick with the GPS Device (cause when I got it working it had me about 2km from my position, using Nokia LD3W GPS Bluetooth Device). Just go to Settings -> System -> Select Disable and then Select Use Attached GPS. Don't worry, Garmin will search for your Bluetooth GPS automatically and when it finds it then you are set to go! At least mine after that worked like a charm. Only thing now is to test it and see if it works well :D

Anyone has TMC (traffic-info) working?
Can't get it working...
That's what I like of Route66, TMC worked without problems.
Cause the road to work is a busy one I'd like to see TMC working the shortest way for me.

And do you also have that strange (don't know the exect Eng. word for it) Roundabout? Instead of saying 'take it 3/4th' it says 'turn right, stay left, turn second right' (or something like that...)

And like the one beneath me, I also :ilove:...

Hey, i know how can you use three sets of maps, just rename it like this:
1. gmapsupp.img + gmapsupp.unl
2. gmapsup2.img + gmapsup2.unl
3. gmapprom.img + gmapprom.unl
This three names are recognized by Garmin. Others to be find. Hope this is helpful.

Ok. So I have the software working and paired to my Nokia BT GPS. I used the keygen and generated keys for the software and also for the Map Product "City Navigator North America NT 2008"

I downloaded the City Navigator North America NT 2008 Update from above.

I burned the ISO to a DVD and tried to install. It is looking for an 8 digit product code. Any ideas?

I see three image files on the disk under the IMG subdirectory: gmappromA.img, gmappromL.img, gmappromU.img

the files total about 2.4 GB. Can I use these files?

I have read every thread so far and am still stumped. ANy help is appreciated.

hi,

I have followed the tutorial and now my N95 internal GPS is recognised :dance: ... but I still have a problem with the map :forsaken:

I have downloaded Garmin City Navigator® Europe NT 2008 from rapidshare using a link provided in one of the previous 84 pages.
I have then copied gmapprom.img into the E:/Garmin directory and used my Card Id & Map id = 284 in the keygen to produce SW.UNL & GMAOSUPP.UNL.

When I start GMXT, I have the following message: "Can't Unlock Maps for Garmin Device with Unit Id xxxxxxxxxx, Do you want to unlock now?"
If I enter yes and enter a keygen 25 digit code again, it still doesn't work.

Can anyone help me on this one. :???:

Actually, the MapID is 284 (Hex: 011C). I was looking at the wrong place in the file.
However, this still doesn't solve my problem :prayer:

Your mapID is ok. Please make sure that you have renamed GMAPPROM.IMG to gmapsupp.img. And you must have GMAPSUPP.UNL file for unlocking the map.

you´ll find Italy inside City Navigator NT V9,i have uploaded only those maps that are usable with MapSource.

do you mean the file of 1,36gigabyte?

i can't make all the europe map in my n95 because i have only the 512mb memory

If you use MapSource for uploading maps in your device,you can select only specific areas u need(only parts of whole Europe map,but it doesn´t have to be whole country).

The problem is,i haven´t found only MapSource to download(there is web update on my link but this won´t work if you already don´t have MapSource installed) but it is included in City Navigator DVD image.

So,if you think u don´t need MapSource u can search for map of Italy only.
I think i´ve seen it somewhere in forum but i can´t say where.

You have to download whole :afraid: City Navigator and install it.
When you do so,you will install the MapSource too!:partyman:

After that,you can use MapSource_6.136 just to update old version.

ok, so i installed garmin as outlined on the first page and all works fine. all i need are the maps for north america, specifically toronto.

I downloaded all the files guten uploaded, as outlined in the above quote (thanks so much guten). but all i have is an .iso, .mds and in the unlock code zip i have a .docx and a .jar.

I burned the .iso to a disc and when it starts up, it looks like it's trying to install garmin (i did this already though). anyway, on the second step when it connects to the N95, i get an error about the connection...says something about the internet connection not working even though i know it is.

so my question is, how do I just get the maps i need??

all of north america would be nice as i'm on the road a lot for work, or i'd even settle for just toronto. can someone please help me????

when you use mapsources to send maps you can use as many as you want because mapsource will compress them all into one img file..

What is mapcode in this case?

You have to generate unlock code for each map u have used and put it inside your GMAPSUPP.UNL file without spaces.

Example:
This is my unlock code for the map i have.

Now i have custom map i need(cca 200MB big),compiled from 6 different map products and my GMAPSUPP.UNL file has 6x25 characters

the map code should come with the file you downloaded... that's for the pc part... but for the phone it will be the same one you generated..

i have a problem.... i have the file Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 (by PouchX) Alcohol120% (.mdf file) in my pc....

i have installed alcohol120% .... and now i don't know what i have to do....

because when i choose the mdf file ... than i try to make Load in virtual periferic but he don't let me choose to load the image....

how can i do?

If I load them to my phone, will I lose my previous points or will they be added to my current ones? I wouldn't like to overwrite my current POIs with the new ones?

Sorry to hear that u already have it.
Atm there is no 2008 map for use with MapSource,only one big .img file with whole Europe inside.

And it´s not possible to cut only specific area or country from .img file.

The 25 letter key apparently unlocks the maps once it is in Mapsource. The key we are looking for is to unlock the DVD (NT North America 2008) we downloaded.

Here's what I did to make the software work for the North America Maps DVD:

1. Install Garmin to your device. I used an SD card reader and the installer recognized it and installed to it. When I put the card back in my E61, it installed fine.

2. Use the keygen in post #1 to generate the 2 unlock files. Note that the keygen will generate a key for the NT North America 2008 maps by default (press the second keygen button).

3. Downloaded the NA map from the post on Page 43

4. Unpack the .rar and the .iso (I burned the .iso to DVD)

5. on the DVD you will find a IMG directory with 3 .img files in it.

6. Copy one .img file to your Card (in my case a miniSD Card) and rename to gmapsupp.img
Note: The largest file is US and Canada, the second largest is US only, the third is Canada only, so you should only need one of the files.

7. Fire up Garmin and enjoy.

I did notice one minor "feature". When in map view (not 3D view), the map appears to not be there. That is because the scale is set at 800 miles. You will have to zoom in to an appropriate level to see map detail.

wow i was doing it all wrong! i followed your post but when i clicked 'view map' from the main screen, i kept seeing it over the uk (not the canadian map i loaded), so i kept thinking it wasn't accepting my ul code lol. i didn't know that i had to move over canada then zoom in.

it works now though (haven't tested the gps as there's a snow storm and i'm not brave enough to go out yet lol), but i'm wondering...is there anyway to change the default 'view map' screen from opening over the uk to over north america?

You have the world basemap in the root Garmin directory. For some reason, until you set your "home" location, you are set to somewhere in the UK and that is what displays. I deleted it (sorry, I cannot remember the filename). At any rate, when you run the app and set your "home", everything should appear normal for you.
