Did you follow the instruction in the readme.txt file ?
When you do all this, it will work !!

1. install garminXT
(+ install support files)
2. choose settings ---> about
3. enter ID number into keygen
4. create .txt file and enter key
5. rename .txt file to SW.UNL
6. Copy SW.UNL into G:\Garmin
7. select for internal GPS at system settings of app
8. upload maps thru Mapsource
9. enter code for selected map (if it wont help make another file "GMAPSUPP.UNL" and enter code into it ---> same proceed like sw.unl)
10. enjoy

Yes the code it's working, but now I have another problem: I can't install the update to version 2.16. Mine it's 2.12. When I try to install it says that "Previous installation of this product can't be found on this machine. Please make sure it's properly installed from original CD, then try again. [Error code:1]". Any ideas?
At the installation of v2.12 there is an error: "Cannot copy file: Cannot read from the source file or disk" and "Failed SHFileOperation", but after that everything it's fine and the map installes ok. For the installation I use an ISO image of ROAD2006 and daemon tools for mounting this file.

To install from update DVD/file w/o original Garmin don't use setup file, just install with msi file then you bypass Garmin check.

Thx for info, i gonna download Metro guide v8 and i have hope my garmin can read this without problem of unloced map. About first link is GREAT but i can't download from megaupload - any thread for this? :).

i downloaded Garmin Mapsource World Map 4.06.zip as per PapaDoctor mentions but when i transfer the maps to my N95 Garmin tells me that i cannot use routing as detailed maps are required. i can see the maps on my mobile device but as the package says they are not very detailed.

i have also downloaded Garmin City Navigator Europe NT 2008-ShareAll which is a .img of around 1.4GB, i presumed i could just load this into MapSource but mapsource cannot view .img files.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must transfer that file into your memory card and create unlock code via keygen for that map. MapID is 284 (Garmin City Navigator Europe 2008 NT).

Try to use a 2GB card. the 1.4 GB img file contains ALL EUROPE - CityNavigatorEuropeNT2008. For the time been looks that you can not cut it in smaller parts, ie to load only one country or a group of countries.
The Worldwide Map 4.01 is routable, BUT yes, it contains major roads only. Can be used in case you are reaching a country outside the CNENT2008 coverage for example.

I installed GM XT on my N95-2 just a few minutes ago and i also unlocked it. However i cant get it to detect the internal GPS...i try to select Attached GPS through the System menu but the program wont detect the GPS. Any ideas?

Just wait few secs to get your GPS connected. When you have "no maps" in the right corner press number 3 on your keypad to zoom in.

p.s. also the routing seems to work fine.

sounds like the map code is not correct.

did you output the maps yourself? what did u use? navigator europe? if so did you just select a country of your choice? if so did you use the custom map id number?

you know the keygen program well the bottom option for the map unlock code, what did you select from the pull down? you need to select the custom ID yes?

Ahh thats where i screwed up this map is custom, ive been entering the standard unlock code for North american map. How can i get the custom ID from the map i generated from mapsource.

I just downloaded the European Map-pack and copied the contents (a bunch of .img files) on my N95-2. However GMTX doesnt detect the maps at all (ive created an unlock file but i cant see any of the maps in the preinstalled map packs).

i never could get the .img maps i downloaded to work, not saying they cannot work but i certainly didnt figure it out.

the best way i found was to download

this seems to be the full install package, it wont just leave you with a .img file, once installed and unlocked with the key provided all you need to do is select the maps you want within europe then copy across to your mobile not forgetting to use the custom map ID when using the keygen.

correct MapSource doesnt need a key itself but maps need unlocking.

the 25 digit unlock key you get from the keygen.

are you using Europe maps?

you should just be able to highlight the maps within MapSource, clicking and dragging your mouse in the mian window then choose to upload the maps you have highlighted to your mobile device.

Its strange though that Garmin Nuvi's anounce street names and all details like exit number and stuff but some how they did not provide this feature with the Garmin XT.

Note sure if this helps, but your maps may really be in there and working. I've noticed with newly loaded maps that when you first launch Garmin and try to look at a map, it says something like "No Map Loaded".

Do a search for an address and try to map it. Your map might just be there.

It seems like Garmin needs you to do an active search or get a GPS fix in order to see a map when the map is first loaded.??

Another thing to try is to Navigate to Tools-Manage My Data - Map Sets. Click on a loaded Map to get details.

Note sure if this helps, but your maps may really be in there and working. I've noticed with newly loaded maps that when you first launch Garmin and try to look at a map, it says something like "No Map Loaded".

Do a search for an address and try to map it. Your map might just be there.

It seems like Garmin needs you to do an active search or get a GPS fix in order to see a map when the map is first loaded.??

Another thing to try is to Navigate to Tools-Manage My Data - Map Sets. Click on a loaded Map to get details.

Maybe it is already described but if not here is solutiion of POSITIONING.
If you have problem on your Garmin XT with positioning on the map
then you'll need to go :

Settings - Restore Defaults
Choose language - english / Voice / Units

Then go to the

Settings - System - Remote GPS -
- And choose USE ATTACHED GPS,(not Bluetooth GPS).
Garmin will automatically search bluetooth devices if you don't have internal gps.

When it's finished you can modify your mobile xt language (settings - display - text)
It works on N73, and probablly with the other mobile phones witch don't have internal GPS, but have the GPS modul.

It is working well with build in GPS - finally some symbian application working with build in GPS and usable also in East Europe.

I have one problem with Garmin xt and Nokia N80. I installed the programme and everything is working fine, but I have problem with maps. The map is unlocked according to the instructions, but is not visible in the screen (in lower right corner says no map). Where is the problem & how 2 fix it?
Map is adriaroute 2.0.
I read somewhere on the forum that the mobile needs to be connected with the bluetooth GPS for the map to appear on the screen.

Hi i had got everything, but the one problem i get is when i put the map in my sd card with all the other files then i get an message saying:
can't unlock maps for garmin device with unit id ..........................., do you want to unlock now? yes or no

and if i click yes it asks me for a 25 digit unlock code

well, there is a way to get an img file work in mapsource if you have the right unlock key and do the following steps:
- load whole .img file to the phone
- start mapsource and try to receive map from the device/card
- if you entered a key before it will successfully install the map

In my case here Mapsource will tell me that 'Some maps could not be opened because the following mapsource products are not installed: City Navigator Europe NT 2008'. Because there is no unlock key entered for CN Europe NT 2008 so it cannot proceed. Thats why i need a key.

And i cannot figure out how to get it work with Mapset Toolkit because i don't have any of those .TYP files that are needed (like it says in the guide).

And with Mapsource Mapset Manager i get 'Mapset Creation Failed!' for whatever reason.

Ok I downloaded a city navigator north america 2008 NT 2008 file and I installed but it how can I unlock the maps? Read the manual at beginning, you need to create sw.unl and gmapsupp.unl files to unlock phone to work with internal GPS and unlock maps.
Afther that you need to go in settings and choose internal GPS receiver.

I install version 60 of Garmin XT on several Nokia 6110 navigator, N95, E90 and N82 and all of them works great with internal GPS. Usually the problem is in old softwer in your phone. Upgrade it and install again it will work OK.

And short manual

1. Download Garmin Mobile XT GPS, for example from: http://rapidshare.com/files/71698800...mage_4xxxx.rar. Run the EXE, it will copy all files to your SD card.. (I used a card reader instead of plugging in my phone, but you can,just be sure to select USB transfer mode)

2. Download update, for example from: http://rapidshare.com/files/71684129...nS60_41020.rar. Run EXE, it will copy all your files to SD card..

3. You have to download for example - Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 with a working unlock key. There are keys that say that the map is unlocked but in reality it is still locked! So get a proper one ..

4. Once installed on PC and unlocked!, you can select any country/ies on the map and export these on your uSD/SD card - select the countries you want and EXPORT to the SD card.

5. On page 35 you can find all the mapID codes - for.ex, maps created with MapSource + Garmin MapSource City Navigator Europe NT v9 = ID 197 .. it doesent matter how many countries you select in MapSource, the ID is always 197..

6. Back to page 1 - grab the keygen.

7. Run Garmin Mobile XP on your phone, go to the ABOUT screen, write down the CARD ID

8. Enter the CARD ID in the keygen (page 1), choose the MAP PRODUCT (or custom mapset - use the ID's from page 35), click on the 1st generate, then on the 2nd generate.

9. Create the files sw.unl and gmapsupp.unl, what you have to paste is written the TXT file that came with the keygen, READ IT!

10. Copy the 2 above files to SD CARD\Garmin

11. Run Garmin Mobile XT, it will try to connect to your GPS device - and yes, ANY GPS BT device and any phone!! That's because the unlock codes are now in the GARMIN directory.

12. In SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS -> your BT GPS name will be shown.

13. IF you don't create the 2 files as mentioned in step 9, THEN in SYSTEM - REMOTE GPS --> you can ONLY pair with a GARMIN GPS DEVICE!!

But it only uses the Europe Navigator as default.
I can not ise the adria route.

So it seems it's not worth downloading this if you have the NT one already.

Guys, my problem is this: I bought a handheld Garmin Device altogether with some maps. I'd like to have them now in my Nokia E90 and Garmin Mobile XT. My problem is I can't get the maps' ID's so I cannot have them unlocked for my E90 through the mentioned keygen. I managed to sebd them to E90, but they are locked.. Would you have any idea? For users of Holux M-1000 on GMXT, if you cannot communicate them don't be dishearted. I also just bought this receiver to replace the nokia LD-3W receiver and found that the holux one doesn't work but finally i found a trick to connect the software with the receiver.

There are the steps:

1) Goto bluetooth settings of yr phone and set the bt gpsr as "unauthorised".

2) In System/Remote GPS of the GMXT software, don't choose bluetooth gps, but choose Attached GPS.

According to the developer of this map i need mapsource to install this. I have downloaded mapsource but i really dont understand what i must do. If someone can help i would really appreciate it. This is the only complete map of greece available and i believe there are a lot of people that need it.

Hi all, I found a solution to my problem. There exists a program http://path.cz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=22&sid=4480d4b7b14c120f7a79ce105edfaf8b#p29 written in czech language, that checks the integrity of the mapsource registry. There is a button that shows "details" which also depicts the installed maps IDs. Everything works great!

I've been using garmin on N95 for sometime with "iberia map" found here. With "gmaptool.exe -i" I can see that that map has been extracted from metroguide europe v9. Everything works fine. Now just to learn i've installed mapsource europe V9, choosen the parts I want, exported the map to N95 and created the new "key" for it. Garmin detects the map, i can play around with the map but i cannot search for a location. Can search poi, it's routable if you choose where to go while browsing the map but i cannot search for a location because it says I need detailed maps, wtf ?? if i can see the map in "detailed map form" why does it say that ? i'm stuck to the metroguide map :S

Hi everyone, i have been reading about installing the garmin mobile xt on to my N82, and so far, i have followed the steps pretty well, it sees my internal gps and all that. i have been using City Navigator North America NT 2008
So I uploaded the maps i needed, and i thoguht everything was working, until I realized that i was uploading demo-only maps. i can browse around streets and all, but as im sure you know, i cannot navigate.

I wonder if only I have the problem with strenth of gps signal on N95... Internal GPS is working but the signal is low. I have uploaded the map (gpmapa 2007.3 - Poland) using Mapsource. I cant open map or navigate to some place because it says : Waiting for better gps signal.
Do you have same problem? Or maybe my N95 is broken?

You must have Mapsource installed, use Power ISO to install map of Romania and you will see both of them, Europe and Romania on your PC, and you will be able to sent them to your device.

Does anybody know the map-ID of the Benelux-maps. I would like to install them together with France and willuse M# or Mapsource to realize this.

getting rpoblems with Mapsource. It worked fine until now...............
When I start it I'll get a message to install again. So I downloaded it again to be sure to have the latest version. I install it. So far so good. I try to run it and.....damn..... same message. Anybody known to this problem? What was teh solution?
In the meanwhile I'm uninstalling all my Garmin apps (and clean the registry by hand) . If I'm finished I try to install again, but maybe there's someone out there who recognizes this problem..

Thanks for fast reply, I read it in a previous thread, but my problem is I have about 500 small topo-maps. Since GMAPSUPx.IMG must have 8.3 characters, I only can get 20 files. (allthough one tread says the highest number is GMAPSUP2.IMG).

So what I hope is that it might be possible to make one large file, containing all my 500 small topographic maps and than call it e.g. GMAPSUP8.IMG.
Since my MAPSOURCE-prog is not working anymore I don't know if that prog can solve my question. Anybody does ?

You have to generate unlock code for each map u have used and put it inside your GMAPSUPP.UNL file without spaces.

It seems like you deed everything right, restart the app, do "zoom" out and move the arrow to Croatia because for default is in Great Britain.

I try with zoom earlyer, but I press zoom in only 3x..

now I press about 10x and it is ok... ;)

I have tryed different numbers at the end of gmapsupx.img and unl but NO GO.

Garmin XT only recognize:
gmapsupp.img with gmapsupp.unl
gmapsup2.img with gmapsup2.unl
gmapprom.img with gmapprom.unl
gmapbmap.img (usually base map)

You could make combination of different maps into one of upper named files in Mapsource or make separate maps named like up. Also works if you instead of base map use that name as for some map.
When you making combination of different maps into one file in Mapsource program always give you name gmapsupp.img, so be aware that you do not have already map with this map on Garmin - it will overwrite it.

Well this is my first post on this forum.......Firstly I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed this information in the previous 115 pages...............Yes i have just spent 4 days reading every single post!! My wife is on the verge of divorcing me cos I have been glued to the PC for days. Before she walks out on me please could I ask for some assistance / leads to my questions below:

1) I'm looking for a City Navigator Map of China Cities, I did download one from this thread on page somewhere around page 45-60 using this link:

But it turned out to be an .IMG file. This works on my PDA phone but the location is at least 200-300 metres out. As I have a PDA running WM6 my Garmin XT software is slightly different from your S60 variety so i can not change any settings to loook for an external reciver. I'm using a Garmin 10x paired to my PDA.

Does anyone have the China City Navigator version of map software? I know that there is a company in Beijing that produces China maps for Garmin GPS units but they do not sell this maps separately.

2) Anyone know for sure that this Garmin maps that are unlocked using KEYGEN are accurate enough for driving and GPS use on the open roads, has anyone used them this way with 100% accuracy? I have been using Garmin software (QUE and now GarminXT) with free maps for the past 2 years but to see the China map soo far out is a worry to me.

Also just to add some clarity to the many posts in this thread:

Think of the BASE MAP (GMAPBMAP.IMG) as the world map on wall paper of the Garmin XP program. It is the rough map of the world and can be used for approximation of your location anywhere in the world.

Think of the SUPPORT MAPS (GMAPSUPP.IMG) files as tiles that you will hang on the wall paper. So if you compile a set of tiles using Mapsource you might have some of Las Vegas, other of Torronto and more from UK and others from Australia. When you then upload the maps to your GPS Device they are all compiled in to a single file called GMAPSUPP.IMG and overwrite any previous file of the same name, so remember to rename the existing file on your phone storage card before you export the new map set. Then when you are in those areas of the World you will have the detailed maps with street level information and POI's available to assist you in yuor navigation.

For POI files to work, these can be imported to a folder on your device memory called "POI". These files are ".GPI" file types and if from Garmin will come with an ".UNL" file to unlock the data contained within. Some POI files are free and can be found on the internet, they can range from Speed camera warnings to walking tour guides and can be made to activate when you reach within a certain proximity of the area that they refer to such as a speed camera or a national heritage site or your home or favourite location. You can even make your own to announce you approaching your home or the local pub!

Hi everybody, I use this Garmin XT and i have only one problem, during navigate I don’t see distance to finish how it is by some other navigations. I see only the time and speed, when I press number 2 then I see the distance to finish, but is quit down (its not pleasant – for example 10 times press down).
Does somebody knows something better?

I read the manual from beginning, download the garmin software from the first page, install garmin, load Adria route 2.0 with Mapsource and unlock maps, create sw.unl and gmapsupp.unl files to unlock phone to work with internal GPS and doing everything from yours manual, but don't detect my internal gps.
I try to select Attached GPS through the System menu but the program only seeing and looking for BT GPS.
I reeding whole forum, try everything, restart the Garmin, Phone - didn't help.

You need to use keygen to generate you device unlock code, save file as SW.UNL (not SW.UNL.TXT) put it in your Garmin folder on your phone.

Yes you have to check on phone since your PC is set to "Hide known extension"

Another way to do is when saving on PC chose ALL as file type.

Alternatively just go to your PC Explore and "Tools/Folder Options/View" then uncheck the option "Hide extensions for known file types". Then when you right click on any file and go to "properties" you will see the full file name and extension such as; "GMAPSUPP.UNL.TXT" where you can then just delete the ".TXT" and the file will work as intended as a systen Unlock file rather than the TXT file.

well, there is a way to get an img file work in mapsource if you have the right unlock key and do the following steps:
- load whole .img file to the phone
- start mapsource and try to receive map from the device/card
- if you entered a key before it will successfully install the map

In my case here Mapsource will tell me that 'Some maps could not be opened because the following mapsource products are not installed: City Navigator Europe NT 2008'. Because there is no unlock key entered for CN Europe NT 2008 so it cannot proceed. Thats why i need a key.

And i cannot figure out how to get it work with Mapset Toolkit because i don't have any of those .TYP files that are needed (like it says in the guide).

And with Mapsource Mapset Manager i get 'Mapset Creation Failed!' for whatever reason.

Did you or anyone else find out a way to get the Mapsource to import the .IMG files from the device to Mapsource? Is there any REGEDITS that can be done to fool Mapsource in to thinking that the main product is installed?

Now is GPS position correct, all is working fine :egdance:, but now I don't have text labels in GMXT in my native language.:???: I can choose only EN, THAI, CN. Voices I have in my language. Is it possible to copy language file from GMXT 4.10.20 to GMXT 4.10.60.TW ? If yes, which file is it ?

There was a post also about geting internal GPS in N95.

After starting the Garmin XT program cancel searching of GPS, go on the top let where is the bluetooth sign - swich on, than click on the left botom to make imposible or unable (in my language is diferent) and it will give you posibilitty to swich between internal and extern GPS - if you make sw.unl and gmapsupp.unl codes OK.

Someone report problems when you use AR 2.00 and Adria Topo together that there is a problems in Croatia to serach for cities (strange why just in Croatia, becouse in Slovenia everything is working OK), but i go in Garmin XT and swich of the Adria TOPO when i don't need it. So, go in tools/manage my data/Complets of maps, click on Mapsource and you could put the tick out if you don't want to use the particular map.
In these way i see that it work OK.

Use keygen, enter you unit ID number and hit generate, copy the 25 digits code.
Now open up Notepad and paste the 25 digits code, Save as SW.UNL (for File type you have to chose ALL file type or you will get a .txt extension).

Now put the SW.UNL inside the Garmin folder on phone.
Do the same with GMAPSUPP.UNL for maps


As for POI, use Garmin POI loader and it will load and put the file in the right place, it will even convert the file for you if you are using a custom POI list made with Excel (save as .csv)

You can download any maps from this site that have the "binary IMG" file names, once downloaded you just have to rename the file to either; "GMAPSUPP.img" ro "GMAPSUP2.img" and then paste the file in to your GARMIN folder on your memory card or device folder (Don't forget to rename your current GMAPSUPP file to another name so that you do not overwrite it!). The Author of the Cyprus map (Alex) is building his map and sharing with you and everyone else also given the file size is quite small this map will be very basic but may give you the information that you need for your trip to Cyprus.

Hi everybody,
I have a n95 8gb and just installed the garmin xt with europe map (thanks to ipmart team)
I can see the map and edit it. But the only problem is that when I try to ROUTE TO a place, it appears to me "Awaiting better GPS accuracy", and it shows me signal 3/4 but never succeed to be full signal.
Knowing that I am in an open air area
I tried to restart, re-configure.... but same problem. :afraid:

So please if someone can help me with this, I l be grateful.:dance:
