Will it appear upon booting? Does you PC still work even the error message appears? Is yes, there might be a problem with your memory or video card. If windows is running, try to lower the resolution.

I encountered this problem before the found out that the memory is the problem. Then I change my ram and it work fine now.

Post your results.

If you think that the problem is the monitor, then try your CPU to another monitor just to be sure of.

But in my experience the problem is the memory. Also, check your video card.

Hi its not a hardware problem, its a problem with incorrect settings for X11. What you need to do (i dont use ubuntu), is look at the info for your monitor and find out the resolution settings, then check the settings in the X11 file.

I sorry i cant be more helpful, but as i said i don't use ubuntu. Perhaps you could find out the solution on their homepage, i know their forum is pretty active.

ps the reason i say it is a setting problem, my friend had the same prob using Suse, which i managed to sort out with his monitor info.
