I have several *.img maps for use with a garmin 60csx device. They work if it put each singularly on separate micro SD card. However I would like to put more than one of these maps on a 2GB card but when I do this the device only reports one present . I have been told that you need to rename each map following the convention : 1st- gmapsupp.img ;2nd gmapsup2.img ;3rd gmapprom.img. This has not worked. Can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks.

Why don't you try to put it's in the separate directory and when you need move it's to the position.

Thanks for the replies.I am hoping for a solution which does not require access to a pc to switch maps every time I need to. The gmaptool option sounds like a good one. I am aware of this tool.Have you got detailed instructions on how to go about joining maps?

I used gmaptool to join the maps I wished to put on the same card and this has provided an excellent solution to my problem. Thanks for all the help I received.

Install Mapsource (from garmin.com), select all the maps you want, then let Mapsource transfer the files to your device, you should have access to everything. You can even select maps from completely different mapsets of the same area if you want, e.g. streetmaps, topo maps, marine charts, etc.
