I have been using AVG AV from a long time back. But recently since 1 month around (20 jan 2008) it is not giving any updates (I tried manually updating many times). and always says uptodated when ever i try manual update.
This is the mess i get on manual update (which is generally normal)

AVG Update

Your AVG program already has the latest updates installed and is fully up-to-date. Remember to check for new updates regularly.
OK [27 sec]

Normally AVG used to update twice or thrice during a day.
I dont know if others are also facing the same issue? If so please inform.

I am getting impatient due to this. Hope i am not infected :Grr: :Grr: :Grr:
My present AV status is this.

I did a manual download of update of some bin files from the AVG site, installed them . Tried to update from the application . it again said already updated like before but the virus def should the same no. and date
Then i restarted my PC . Did a full system scan. Found 2 Trojans. Removed them and then again did an update from inside the application VOLA....
Now the update showed that a Priority Update of 20mb was there and it started downloading and its working again......

Moral of the Story:
1) I had not done a full system scan for quite a long time and hence may be my AV update went for sleep ....he ...he.
2) No need to panic in such situation as in case of AVG one can download update files from the site. Then restart and do scan to make it work again. And ur updates starts functioning..... i hope this is a way out ..... May be this could help others also

Now i dont have to format and install OS and other applications again (i earlier thought my PC might have infected by some Virus)

Thanks andy for ur post as it prompted me to look into the AVG website for updates.

AVG antivirus is the best antivirus i have used so far. haven't encounter any problems since i used this. why don't you put the update to auto. or just uninstall then install the software again.

dont forget to scan as well with new updates/install if you can do it in safe mode that way viruses cannot block av software (unless they are boot sector or rootkit)
