hello experts

plz help me with this COM SURROGATE Problem.

i had an xp installed n then i migrated to vista ultimate.

in vista the only good thing is that whenever an incompatible hardware is plugged or when a corrupt file or infected file(not necessarily a virus file), is opened or even the folder or directory of that file is opened there pops up a message "COM SURROGATE HAS STOPPED WORKING". all i need to do is press cancel n resume my work as if nothing has happened n everything is fine, the tasks that i might be carrying on like copying, editing docs, or playing movies or music, etc etc. can be resumed with no problem at all.

but in the case of xp even if the same infected files or corrupt files folders are opened everything , i.e. all the folders close automatically n all data is lost and WINDOWS EXPLORER RESTARTS stating something like "WINDOWS EXPLORER HAS CLOSED TO STOP DATA EXECUTION" or most of the times stating "DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION" message pops up n u have only one option to "CLOSE" the message and windows explorer restarts.

so i was thinking that is there any utility or software similar to the function of vista that only states COM SURROGATE has STOPPED WORKING, where i only need to press CANCEL tab n resume my work without losing any DATA.

could some one plz help me out as i seriosly feel n know that XP is umpteen times better n stable than any vista n i wanna use my xp.

i cant post ant screen shots .

sorry for that.

but maybe some expert has understood my problem n can help me out.

plz i would be really obliged.

THANKS in advance to everybody.

warm regards,

There might be a problem in upgrading your XP to Vista.

I recommend you to backup your files, reformat and reinstall XP, install a good antivirus (I prefer kaspersky) then observe before upgrading again to Vista.

thanks MYK for replying mate.

i donat have any problem at all with either of the os

i have 2 official DELL pcs. one with an xp n other with a vista.

wat i wanted to know is that in xp suppose u open a infected or corrupt folder or file there pops up a message stating DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION - n u only have the option of CLOSE MESSAGE.
then another message pops up stating WINDOWS ERROR REPORTING n even if select either of SEND or DONT SEND , all the windows close n WINDOWS EXPLORER restarts, n all ur data is lost.

but in vista there pops up a message COMSURROGATE HAS STOPPED WORKING, u only need to presss cancel or close tab n then u can resume work as if nothing has happened.

that functionality of vista, is it available on xp or is there any program for making that type of funcyion work.

plz reply.
