Hello everybody,

I just got a Blackberry 7290 from eBay and I need some help with the Internet functions. I just remove the IT policy and got Opera Mini to work but I can't download any files using it. It always prompts to invoke the browser but when I select Yes, nothing happen. It tells me that I don't have any services installed. I registered the Host Routing Table but nothing happened. I also can't send any e-mails. The phone and SMS works fine. I'm using the Blackberry in Asia. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Um you're wrong. He mentioned that trying to download applications, Opera Mini invokes the BB Browser to download - which is what its supposed to do. The BlackBerry is smart enough to know when installing .jar/.jad files or .alx using Opera Mini that the device needs the stock browser.

OK So I'm assuming that you removed the IT Policy you have access to a BES; but you're using it for BIS? Need clarification for this. Also did you use a BES to remove IT Policy or some file removal/install via BBDM which doesn't ALWAYS work!

No emails?

First check provider set you up correctly for data provisioning.
HRT is nice but all it does is check that you have cell connection, not necessarily the correct data provisioning.

Home Screen> Options> Mobile Networks. Click menu key and goto Diagnostics. Click menu key and select RUN!

Whatever you see on THIS screen is VITAL! you can see if you Email address is listed & "attached". Many providers have seperate data provisions for blackberry's BIS (personal email) vs BES (for corporate; but personal enabled too).

Ignore the IP addresses unless its vacant. If so then contact your provider ONLY after removal & re-insert of battery (I'd prefer a quicker method), Turn off the mobile radio (so its in plane mode) then back on.

Post back to see where you are at, please.

Yes I actually remove the IT Policy by the BlackBerry Desktop Manager and using the BIS. I followed a tutorial which I don't remember the URL. Sorry.

I've check the Home Screen>Options but there no Mobile Networks. There's only Network and when I select that the only info was the name of the Network. When I click for the menu, the only option is to change the network and no diagnostics option. And I just upgraded the OS to version 4.1.0.377 which I think is the latest for the 7290.

ok. Most likely the URL was from BBForums - I frequent there too.

IT Policy's really should be removed by a BES Administrator as its done properly and 0% Fail rate (doesn't have to be from the same BES Admin the device originated from).

But no worries. Before proceeding with below, check if you can pull up Google.com on your BB 7290, and do a live search for anything very common (like a fruit/vegetable/car part) to ensure your getting live results. If not then contact provider immediately (after they get GPRS in uppercase working, then have them Re-send Service Books!

Ok in the Options (wrench icon from the main screen of applications), and you goto Network ... you need to click the Scrollwheel, to see your listing of menu's and scroll up/down to Diagnostics. WAIT?! Sorry I don't think the 7290 can do this even with OS 4.1 (newer Trackball based BB's can do this). if you still don't see Diagnostics in this menu (you will not see it listed by the provider, again you need to click scrollwheel to see the menu listings and it MAYBE there), then proceed to contact your provider.

1> Have your provider Resend your Service Books (BIS).
OR: you can visit the BIS site for your provider and send them yourself to your device over the air.

2> Home > Options> Advanced Options> Messaging / Default Services. Click into it and Messaging should list your Email address; if not then you're not setup for Email yet.

You may need to reload your Firmware again after wiping the Handheld: only as a last result because wiping takes anywhere from 3-7mins to complete (rebooting included)! :O

I'm really hoping this helps you out.

My GPRS settings works but only by using Opera mini 4. And I tried looking for the diagnostics but there isn't any. I don't think my provider fully support BlackBerry as they said that they only provide the GPRS settings. I don't even think there's a BIS site for my provider. It seems to me that its a lost cause.

Well that is the focal point of the issues. IF you're provider has Blackberry Connect feature then your BB will work; if no BES/BIS/BBConnect then nothing is going to work. Opera Mini 4 uses the TCP settings in Options to get an internet connection of you have that on your mobile service plan.

Sorry that it didn't work out. Look around for deals on other providers, and if they'll offer a newer BB for free, then upgrade. You'll love it.
