Coder DGGC92 has come out with another interesting piece of homebrew that should help you bypass the password protection scheme inherent in the Sony PlayStation Portable.
It's called the Alobe Parental Password Cracker, and it essentially reads the password from the flash for you to use to unlock the restricted functions of your PSP. According to DGGC92, the application also saves the password onto a text file in the root of the memory stick.
That means that you can retrieve it for future use. Furthermore, it seems to be simple enough to install: just stick it into the Game150 folder, and you can apparently use it. The author didn't note which FWs it works on though.
This is a handy app to use if you accidentally locked yourself out of your own PSP. Of course, we have no idea why you'd forget a four digit combination, but that is probably a story for another day. In any case, have fun using the app!

The popular Adobe Photoshop CS may be well on its way to the Sony PlayStation Portable, since homebrew developer DGGC92's latest application for the handheld holds such promise. Adobe Poloshop CS version 1.0 has been released, though it only features a simple drawing tool as of now.
In its first iteration, DGGC92's Adobe Poloshop can only draw in black, red, and blue colors. At the very least, the homebrew app's interface looks faithful to the actual image editing program. Here's its brief feature list:
* using LuaPlayer HM3
* Can use 3 colors to draw (BLACK,RED,BLUE)
* Looks Really Like Photoshop
The developer explained that Adobe Poloshop is written in Lua, and more functions of the actual Photoshop CS will be added in the upcoming versions. We're sure to keep tabs on that, so watch this space for updates!

This time, the main draw is that you can use the alarm function to trigger the transmission of an infrared code that would then make your TV or HiFi spring to life. It's just like setting them on alarm mode, but in this case, your PSP does it for you!
Same old drill, here. Here's the changelog:
* Implemented alarm activated Pronto infrared remote control feature provided by AhMan.
* Small change so the TRIANGLE button toggles the Sunset time monitor in the Sunrise/set subdisplay mode.
* Program now checks for free space on Memory Stick prior to writing program support files on first use.
* Added secret intro skip method for Memory Stick donators which can be saved with user configuration.

Vitasik 28th April 2008, 18:54 Custom Firmware 3.93
http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/xq6muvv7/thumb_snap001.jpg
While waiting for the next custom firmware coming from Dark AleX and Team M33, there's one based on the official Sony PlayStation Portable firmware 3.93 that surfaced which appears to be a functional alternative. Only known as CFW 3.93, it's said to be rooted in M33's work and gives credit to usual CFW contributors.
To kick things off, here's the changelog provided for CFW 3.93
* Uses the 3.93 kernel
* Implented all the original custom firmware features.
* Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:
o When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.
o All options work immediatly, there is no need to reboot (even the Slim's USB charging option)
o Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.
* Ability to hide the MAC adress in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0's.
* Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).
* The native 3.93 pops isn't as good as the previous pops, therefor I hope the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.

http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/7fmuiqg/16707_150kernelPSP.jpg
Yesterday's new custom firmware release rocked the community's boat, and today, it looks that we're in for more rocking. An update for Custom Firmware 3.93 has just hit the internet waves and with it comes the 1.50 kernel.
In case you missed the report yesterday, CFW 3.93 for the PlayStation Portable was released and it packs in-XMB recovery together with a good number of other features. Note that this 1.50 kernel (version 1) is for the PSP Fat and of course, it only works with the custom firmware released yesterday. The readme lists the following changes:
Install on a Fat the kernel 1.50 add on. To use the 1.50 Kernel for an application, you'll absolutely need to put the Kernel to 1.50, even if the application is in the GAME150 Kernel.
If you change the kernel in VSH Recovery, you'll still need a reboot
The new recovery has this two asked features :
* Suspend device
* Shutdown device
Installation is pretty simple: You just need to connect your PSP to your PC, unzip the contents of the download to your PSP/GAME folder, and paste 150.PBP on the root of your memory stick. This update adds the 1.50 kernel and new recovery (listed above) to PSP Fats and adds the new recovery for PSP Slims.

Vitasik 4th May 2008, 22:41 Update 2 for CFW 3.93
Update 2 for homebrew developer Ketchup's Custom Firmware 3.93 is finally out, with the fix for the fairly serious selection bug. You're suffering from this bug if you notice your PSP (that uses theketchupman's custom firmware, mind) choking whenever you press Select while the Sony keyboard is operational.
The other major change included in this update is the removal of HellCat's Savegame Deemer plug in, which lets PSP users save and load unencrypted save data. However, in case you still prefer using Savegame Deemer Ketchup has provided the plug-in which you can install separately.
Here's the official changelog:
* Correction "bug Select". This bug was reported by all users: When the keyboard Sony appears, pressing Select, it freezait the console. This has been corrected.
* Removal of the Backup utility Décryptée of HellCat. We thank HellCat for his work, for certain reasons (mainly license), it was decided to remove the utility.

Homebrew developer Mediumgauge's latest build of PSP Filer may seem Greek to a lot of poeple, but that's not a problem; since PSP Filer v5.0 was specifically catered to include Greek support, among other things.
The latest release of this PlayStation Portable organizer application includes several other notable changes, such as a few bug fixes tied into opening archived files using the program. Also, like we mentioned earlier, PSP Filer v5.0 expands its language base by including Greek language support.
Anyway, here are the complete details of the latest set of changes since our previous coverage of PSP Filer:
* added Greek mode.
* fixed a bug that Filer was crashed when it opened some kind of RAR file (probably having a comment).
* fixed a bug that a zipped file made by Mac OS could not be accessed.

Homebrew developer taeky has released a new PSP game called ParKing. The aim is to parallel park your car as quickly as possible. You only have a limited amount of time to park your car, so it can be quite frustrating the first couple of times you try.
Your car doesn't explode once time runs out - you just run out of gas, and the round is over. The game has its own high score table too. Here's the readme for ParKing v1.0:
The aim is to park his car as soon as possible.
* Single player
* The game is timed
* Management of players with name registration, and selection of a player
* Detection and Protection of record
* Capture screen during game with the clock stopping time of capture
* Capture screen each new record
Controls:
* Left Arrow - Turn left
* Right Arrow - Turn right
* Triangle - Forward
* Cross - Reverse

* OSK used to enter your name
* Unic color for tagging (red)
* Backgrounds removed
* You can define the screenshots file format (Png, tga, bmp, Jpg)
* You can even add your own TTf polices for Tagging

http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/vc2ufsko/snap000.bmp.png
NervOS 2.0.1 Changes:
* Checks if you have more than 74% of battery, if you don't, it tells you to press X to shut down or [] to continue.
* Checks if you have enough free space in your memory stick.
* Improved Installation and Uninstallation systems
* After any process is run it tells you to press X to shut down instead of continuing.

PSPKOR has released WireWar Prt2, an Asteroids clone for the PSP. The game places you in the cockpit of a mighty triangle as you try and shoot down squares with your pixel gun.
In this game, you have 99 seconds to take down as many rotating squares as you can. However, you generally are only able to fire one shot at a time, so you have to make that short count. The size of the square you hit also determines your points; the smaller the square, the more points you get, with extra points for firing at moving targets.
Here's a list of the new features of this game:
* Power up, so you can shoot two bullets, if you get 500 points.
* Another target which moves.
* Stars in the background.
* Sounds.
* Screen glows when you hit a target.
* Burst of color when you hit a target.
* Go on and off the screen.
* Pause menu.

Vitasik 1st June 2008, 19:36 new Custom Firmware
http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/s4njcsr9/customfirmware3_95genforpspnewsbanne.jpg
MaGiXieN tipped us off to a new post made by the developers responsible for developing Custom Firmware 3.95 GEN, and it says that the new CFW will be available through download for Sony PlayStation Portables by midnight of Saturday (May 31, 2008).
The developers assure you that 3.95 GEN is functional, and their latest build even alleviated the compatibility problems with PSP Fat models. Yes, they've overcome the Fat's memory limitations.
But that's not all - the team has even taken steps to ensure that the VSHMENU from Popsloader, IRShell (well, most of it), and CXMB were tested on 3.95 GEN. The results they've got is a mixed bag (of butter popcorn): while VSHMENU support is extended and confirmed working, IRShell's ISO, UMD loading functionality and CXMB operation won't work without updates.
That said, however, the team has listed what they've added to the new build of CFW 3.95 GEN, and they are as follows:
What's new...
...in General:
* Compatibility with the official firmware 3.95
...in Recovery:
* Option to choose between various sources of updates (GEN Server, Server M33 or official server)
* The option to choose between VSHMenu or Recovery accessible via the SELECT button in VSH.
...in VSH:
* Access to recovery / vshmenu via press SELECT (adjustable)
* Updated network directly on the server via PSPGEn icon Network Update (adjustable)

* Added new icons to menu (main: Applications | sub: Calculator, Text Editor, Web Browser and USBHostFS)
* Fixed 2 bugs in recovery menu.
* Improved Calculator
* Fixed memory issues
* From now on, file browser displays ICON0.PNG when you are highlighting a PBP/CSO/ISO file
* Removed NervOS Boot PBP and replaced by Main PBP.
* Added Scripting System - this scripting system was made by me and it is still under creation, a lot of functions will be added on future releases and the parser will be improved.

Best homebrew developer Dark_AleX has released PSP custom firmware 4.01 M33. In addition to minor bug fixes, this edition of the M33 firmware series of course brings 4.01 kernel support, complete with multi-language support for Recovery Mode. Instructions can be found in the included readme on how to translate the recovery text to your native language. And no, this release does not include in-XMB recovery or savestate support.
As usual, the firmware update can be applied directly via Network Update if you are running a previous release from 3.80 M33 and onward, or by following the manual installation instructions below, provided that you have a homebrew capable PSP.

The objectives in the game are pretty simple: eat as much of the onscreen food as you can and get longer. In the process, you have to outfox your opponent into ramming into you. Sounds simple, but it can be pretty addictive.
According to slicer4ever -> (coder), there's no single player mode and when playing with a friend, the server has to be started ahead of the client to play successfully. A couple more releases are planned to shoot bugs and hopefully add new features.

Here's a fairly simple homebrew game from littlevish that reads your mind. The Magic Number is coded in LUA and basically tells you which number you are thinking of.
David Blaine magic much, eh? It sounds pretty interesting enough for me as I'm all for those mind tricks and whatnot. It may seem boring playing it by yourself, but you're sure to get an audience with kids. As littlevish notes, "little kikds seem to be particularly impressed by this trick."

Developer Hellcat has released a major update to his Pandora installer for 3.X kernel based custom firmware, a handy application that allows users to easily create a base Pandora setup (service mode battery, magic memory stick) on their homebrew-capable PSP.
In addition to a couple tweaks and minor bug fixes, Revision 4 features a redesigned menu interface, allowing for easy navigation of all available options, along with built-in options to install the TimeMachine IPL and the latest edition of Dark_AleX’s Despertar del Cementerio universal unbricker directly to memory stick.
View the complete changelog can be found after the break.
* - added a new menu system for more easy navigation of all available options
(I ran out of buttons for new functions *lol*)
Usage should be a bit more easy now, less confusion….
* - added option to install TimeMachine IPL to the MemStick
(the IPL is build in, not required to have it as file on the MemStick)
* - added option for installing a DDC stick! (”Desparter Del Cementario”, or however it’s spelled )
Now you can finally make a MagicStick with this app that also works perfectly on the Slim and
installs a recent CFW!
No need for any additional tools or setups.
(3.40 module extraction based on M33’s PSARDumper)
* - added option to modify a DDC MagicStick to launch ELF-Menu, instead of the original
DDC ressurection.elf - already presupplied with NAND-Tool (propperly set up) and the
original ressurection to be launched from the menu.
For all you maintanance needs
* - It now looks for the 1.50 updater under “150.PBP”, no longer under “UPDATE.PBP”!
* - The required updater .PBPs are checked on startup and missing ones a are noted in a warning at the bottom of the mainscreen

Nataku92 has via a 3rd party released a new version of his 2D Counterstrike game for the PSP.
Heres whats new:
Fixed a bug in the server list pinging code
Map files are now deleted if the download is cancelled before completing (prevents crashes
when trying to redownload the same map)
Fixed a bug that prevented properly putting the PSP in sleep mode while the game was running
Implemented grenades (you can only carry one grenade at a time though)
Added the highlighted gun's image and cost to the buy menu
Implemented a simple decal system for blood and explosion marks
Implemented a grid partitioning system to optimize collision detection (larger, more complicated maps don't slow down as much now)
Fixed a bug that made the remaining ammo count after reloading inaccurate
Made the camera less jerky during variations in frames per second
Added a map check that gives an error message when the map and the server's map don't match (this should also catch half downloaded maps that would have otherwise crashed the game)
Fixed a bug in the knife collision check when more than two players were in contact
Redid a lot of the bot code (they should now detect when they get stuck and try to move away)
Implemented A* pathfinding (bots can actually find each other now instead of moving randomly)
Made waypoints optional (bots won't move on maps without waypoints)
Fixed a few other bugs

Vitasik 22nd July 2008, 19:01 Homebrew developer Torch recently dropped us a line to inform us that the latest version of the power saving plugin for the PlayStation Portable, Hold+, is now available for download.
Version 2.62 of the homebrew plugin fixes a bug found in the previous version, which shuts down the responsiveness of the Analog Up feature after opening the Photo menu in the XMB. It definitely makes things more convenient for those who like using their handheld as a multimedia device.
Here are the specifics to the new change added in Hold+ v2.62:
Fixed a bug where the Analog Up features would not respond after opening the Photo menu in the XMB. After you exit the Photo menu, just toggle the Hold switch once and the Analog Up features should work after that.

Vitasik 22nd July 2008, 19:17 PSP News about PSP-3000
http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/2btvyo8m/psp3000.jpg
According to forum posters at PSPChina, the long-rumored PSP-3000 in is production and will include a built-in mic, along with minor cosmetic changes.
To substantiate their claims, one of the forum goers supplied a photo of the unit, which depicts a new button with the PS brand logo next to the two volume push buttons, in replace of the HOME button found on the PSP-1000 and 2000 series. To the right of the volume buttons is the microphone.
Again, the validity of these photos is questionable. Take this rumor with a grain of salt, though to be honest the PSP-3000 is more a matter of when rather than if.

What's more is that, aside from getting to convert videos (whether on your PC or straight right out of YouTube or MySpace) for your PSP, this new version introduces the PSPVC server which allows you to convert stuff online.
As a recap for all those who've missed the previous releases, PSPVC allows you to convert videos to a format suitable for watching on your PSP. If you're not a fan of videos, it can also just rip the sound clips from videos, if you so wish.
Here's the full changelog for PSPVC v2.8:

This feature turns PSPVC into a personal online converter that you can use to download and convert videos anytime and from anywhere you want! More info on how to configure and use this feature can be found in the manual

* Added an "AUTO" mode to the audio sync option (enabled by default)

Now people that don't have a pandora's battery and you have a semi-brick today is you lucky day. Homebrew Developer, Hellcat, has just released an easier way to get out of semi-brick and install a fresh new CFW, 3.71 M33 to be exact, without pandora's battery. Its called Recovery Flasher, all it requires is an EBOOT in the recovery folder and a EBOOT of the 3.71 M33 firmware update. Turn on your PSP and hold down the R trigger, to enter the Recovery Menu and click the Run Program and BAM goodbye semi-bricks plus it's also an easy custom firmware install on your PSP without a pandora's battery.
This program has been tested by Hellcat to successfully flash a fresh 3.71-M33 on the following setups:
3.02-OE *) on Fat PSP
3.40-OE via TimeMachine on Fat PSP
3.60-M33 via TimeMachine on Slim PSP
3.71-M33 on Fat and Slim PSP
4.01-M33 on Fat and Slim PSP successfully flash
What is this?
- Flashes a fresh 3.71-M33 - for recovering semi-bricks or to
up-/downgrade CFW
- does not use Pandora, runns from the recovery menu or the XMB
- does not use (as in launch) the original Sony Updater (only extracts
all required files from the origin al .PBP)
- runs fine on CFWs lower than 3.52-M33-3 - handy for upgrading older
FWs w/o the “need to go 3.52, then 3.52-3, then higher” odyssey
- runs fine from TimeMachine (3.40-OE on Fat and 3.60-M33 on Slim)
- can backup the FW flash and restore selected parts (XMB theme,
settings, PSN activation)
Installation:
-Copy the RECOVERY folder from the archive to /PSP/GAME/ on your
memory stick, so that you get a /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/ folder containing the
apps EBOOT on your stick.
-Now copy the official Sony 3.71 update EBOOT, renamed as 371.PBP, into
the RECOVERY folder as well.
-Then from the recovery menu run by selecting "Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP"

Dark AleX is back with a new version for the "Universal Unbricker" for the PSP! This time around, Despertar del Cementerio v6 is chock-full of bug fixes and features. And for the most part, the problem with certain TA-088 PSP models have been addressed.
For those new to this unbricker, and as a recap, Despertar del Cementerio (aka DC) can be used in conjuction with a pandora battery, which then allows you to install pretty much any custom firmware back on your PSP.
Here's the full changelog for Despertar del Cementerio v6:
* Now installs 4.01 M33-2
* Change of core. Now it uses 4.01 M33 core. This fixes some TA-88 crashing because of 1.5/3.40 kernel. Note that there are still other kind of newest TA-88 which cannot boot DC at all.
* GUI of both installer and DC itself changed to a xmb looking one.
* Added the option "Test M33" which boots 4.01 M33-2 from the memory stick.

noman786 9th August 2008, 10:59 Its, NOT A Homebrew its a Video Converter for PSP
http://img3.imagebanana.com/img/7xgcge2b/17562_psphomebrewpspvcvideoconverter.jpg
Hey, look what dropped in! PSP Video Converter v2.8 has just been released by Nick Swardh.
What's new in v2.80 ?
In this version, I introduce a new feature: PSPVC (Server)
This feature turns PSPVC into a personal online converter that you can use to download and convert videos anytime and from anywhere you want! More info on how to configure and use this feature can be found in the manual
On top of that, I've also...
* Added an "AUTO" mode to the audio sync option (enabled by default)
* Added support for 59.94 fps framerate
* Crushed a few minor bugs
* Improved PSPVC installer
You'll be installing this program on your PC

This program is designed to prepare your PSP Memory Stick to be used with the Pandora Battery. Unfortunately this program can not change your Battery to Pandora, however it will copy programs to the Memory Stick in order for you to do this yourself.
There is now support for Windows 98 Second Edition, Millenium, and 2003 Server to begin with. After that more options are made available to the user, like whether or not to inject the Time Machine IPL, and whether or not to use MSPFormat to format their memory stick. On top of that, a couple more PRX plugins for the XMB were thrown in the XMB Support Tools.
Changelog: v1.3

File Description
Homebrew developer Hellcat updated his Recovery Flasher to version 1.32.
changelog:
* fixed a flaw in the backup/restore functions that made them going haywire on CFWs of 3.52 and below when restoring a full firmware from a backup.
Now works fine on those lower CFWs as well
* Well, this one is more "just for fun" than meant serious.... I made an additional build of the app, that runns on unpatched, virgin, original 1.50
Restoring and creating backups works as fine as installing a fresh M33 CFW (3.71/4.01) - YES, you can go from 1.50 STRAIGHT AND NONSTOP to a fresh 4.01-M33 this way!
The other way round also works: restoring a 1.50 from a backup when running on 4.01.
(this might also help people having installed the 1.50 AddOn and so unable to use the original build)

It's been a while since developer Archaemic came out with an update for the homebrew comic book reader for the PlayStation Portable. Fortunately, a new build was recently spotted and includes several new features and bug fixes since the previous release of the app.
Here are the details to the new changelog for PSPComic v1.0.1:
* [Feature] Archives are now detected when opening by contents instead of extension. However, menus are still generated by extension
*[Feature] Shift-JIS support for filenames when the PSP's character set is set to Shift-JIS
* [Feature] Zoom box colors can now be customized in themes, as well as error text color
* [Bugfix] Fixed a RAR loading bug
* [Bugfix] No more weird behavior on resume or when the memory stick is removed, however the program will claim that no memory stick is inserted for a small period of time after the program is resumed
* Fixed file handle leak in directory reading
And many more minor changes
