A simplified tutorial on how to mod/hack your firmware.

Kindly note its essential that you hack your firmware for the first time using the computer. Now working on both XP and Vi$ta ;) credits to keshav.

NOTE : FOR WINDOW$ VI$TA users kindly run all applications as admin "run as administrator" This can be done by right clicking on the files and then everything will work. Thanks to loyagirish for the method ;)


You will need certain softwares and a PC:

1. Download and Install ActivePython (http://downloads.activestate.com/ActivePython/windows/2.5/ActivePython-2.5.1.1-win32-x86.msi) on your PC
2. Download and Install PySerial (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pyserial/pyserial-2.2.win32.exe?modtime=1122861377&big_mirror=0)
3. The magic python script and TRK application
a.) for Nokia (n95 ,n82 ,etc.) (http://fca00000.googlepages.com/hack_perms_s60v3_FP1.py) + AppTRK (http://fca00000.googlepages.com/s60_3_1_app_trk_2_7.sisx) / (for n73, n80 etc) (http://fca00000.googlepages.com/hack_perms_s60v3.py) + AppTRK (http://keshav0001.googlepages.com/s60_3_0_app_trk_2_7.sisx) (Thanks to FCA00000)
b.) for UIQ based (P1i , w960i etc.) (http://swmail.wen.ru/hack_perms_uiq3.zip) (Thanks to swmail)
4. Application to turn security on and off (from phone)
a.) for Nokia (n95 ,n82 ,n73 ,n80 etc.) (http://fca00000.googlepages.com/capsOnOff.rar) (Thanks to FCA00000)
b.) for UIQ based (P1i , w960i etc.) (http://www.agathosyne.de/files_ext/CapsSwitch.zip) (Thanks to swmail)

The Real Part:

1. Install the AppTRK application on your phone's memory and start it, then in options>settings, select connection as USB.
2. Connect your phone to your PC via USB in PC Suite mode and then AppTRK will report connected on your phone
3. Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Ports
OR in Windows Vista: Control Panel>System>Device Manager>Ports.
Note the COM Port your phone is using
4. Open the python script in notepad (the one downloaded in step 3 with .py extension)
5. Search "serial.serial" without quotes and then replace the numerical value in bracket with the value of your COM Port minus 1 i.e. if your port was 22 then replace it with 21.
6. Save the file
7. Run the script by simply double clicking it
8. Now if you see something like !!!!!!candidate!!!!!!! in the output window, or if you just saw the dos window and a few lines saying installing or sending etc, then.....
congratulations now your phone is really yours!!
9. Now you can exit the AppTRK application.
10. Verify the hack with X-Plore (http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=242674), see if you can explore c:/sys/
11. Now if you will reboot the phone you will have to reactivate the hack with above procedure OR to do it without PC do the following(Note: for the first time PC hack is needed)
12.a.) For Nokia :
I. copy CProfDriver_SISX.ldd from RAR downloaded in step 4a into C:\sys\bin
II. install CapsOn.sisx
III. install CapsOff.sisx
b.) For UIQ based
I. Copy patched trkdriver.ldd from rar downloaded in step 4b to c:\sys\bin\
II. Install CapsSwitch on your phone
13. Now you can switch security on and off without pc through these applications
CapsOff = Security OFF and do whatever you want to do with your phone :)
CapsOn = Restrictions ON :(


After this hack you'll be able to install unsigned applications without SymbianSigned

Note: This tutorial is same for all symbian OS 9 phones(n95,n82,n73,n8,P1i,w960i etc.) until'n'unless mentioned
So here's the HOWTO for installing unsigned applications on your Symbian phone after you have hacked it(CapsOFF) :-

1. Download this rar file (http://fca00000.googlepages.com/cert.rar) containing the certificate, the key and the authentication file for your phone. (Thanks to leftup of symbian freak)
2. Copy the file "00000001" to "C:\resource\swicertstore\dat\" on your phone and mark the file read-only from X-Plore or other similar file explorer. If the given directories do not exist , create them
3. So now your own authentication system is installed on your phone. Now you need to sign your sis files with the given certificate and key in the rar file.
4. For signing sis files (pc based method)(works for all Symbian OS 9 phones)
I) Download and install SignSis GUI (http://www.gosymbian.com/dhscr/download/dwl_ssis_uk.php?name=SignSIS-GUI) on your PC
II) Select the given certificate and key(password is blank) given in 'the rar file you downloaded'
III) Select the file you need to sign and sign it and transfer it to your phone, install normally
IV) Now you have the application installed with all its capabilities
------------------------------OR---------------------------------
4. Mobile based method(no need for a pc), works only for Nokia phones
I) Download and install MobileSigner (http://www.symbian-freak.com/downloads/app/3rd_ed/mobile_signer.zip) on your phone
II) Open MobileSigner and select and sign the 'unsigned sis file' and MobileSigner will generate a signed sisx file in the same directory as the source file.
III) Install the generated sisx file and application will be having all its capabilities.

This is the simplest and easiest way and it worked for me in one shot. ;)

Yes what you did is right. The number 1 is correct. Did you install both active python and pyserial-2.2.win32? In my case it didnt show candidate as well it just showed the dos window with the same details as you have shown in the image. In my opinion youve already managed to hack your firmware. just goto the next step to verify that your firmware is hacked or not and then we'll know. It shows candidate in a few phones and in the rest is doesnt show anything at all. Just proceed to the next step. ;) Lemme know.

:( when you open xplore click on 0 and check the first 4 boxex then you'll see c:/sys ;) just try that out :) and lemme know coz then i'll try my best to get a solution for n93 users. ;)

Ans 1. Yup whenever you wanna install anything just click on caps off. ;)
Ans 2. That should not be happening. :( Did you copy the file CProfDriver_SISX.ldd to c:\sys\bin ??? coz if you didnt copy that the phone might restart. ;) lemme know

When i try to install preFp1 Caps apps it works. So i think in N73 ,N80 phones pre FP1 files must be installed & for 6120, N95, N82 phones Fp1 apps is to be installed to work.

you are setting the wrong port there... click on the N82 USB and look for the port number there and then right click on the python file and choose edit with IDLE .. select the page which has the code and press F5 and it will execute the script..

where could i find device driver for windows xp for Nokia E90? the pc suite is dvd, my desktop pc reads only cd. pls advise. thanks. i cant locate which port without it.

Now ur problem was unable to make it work again without computer after restart. i also face the same problem. i tried capoff and profiler. both not work.
so i just suggest u using modified x-plore by disabled to make it permanent.

if u got stuck on 'sending message 00' try to restart ur phone and re run the script WITH THE APP TRK TURNS ON.. Dont fget to set it on connect..

hi, i have the same problem. When i run the hack it hangs : ping "sending message oo". and the program does NOT continue with 01, 02. i don't know where is the problem. my phone is a E90 vers 7.4

I also had this error message, all it said was ping "sending message oo", and just hangs there. But i had PC suite running! Make sure its turned off, restart phone and you should be fine

:dance2: Oh and i can confirm that this hack works on E65!! Using Vista!!

NOTE: I needed to follow Varunzzz advice - If you still can’t view C:/sys/bin when you open xplore, then whilst X-plore is open click on 0 and check the first 4 boxex then you'll see c:/sys

Actually, using the guide on this thread, only the "pyserial-2.2.win32.exe" can be run as administrator. The file "ActivePython-2.5.1.1-win32-x86.msi" did not even give me the option of installing as administrator

Thankyou so much for this guide, i,tried this hack on other threads for last two days and got nowhere

:suicide: I need help for the final part of this tutorial:(

1. I downloaded the Cert.Rar file and extracted
2. Copied "00000001" file to "C:\resource\swicertstore\dat\"
3. Mobile based method: Downloaded and installed Mobilesigner on phone.
4. Opened MobileSigner and selected a unsigned sis file (cracked sis file), selected the gensign.key and gensign.cer (from the cert.rar archive), left the password blank and a new "sisx" file was created in the same directory as my unsigned sis file.
5. Tried to install the sisx file and got this error message "Unable to install a protected application from a untrusted supplier"

What did i do wrong? Can any1 help?

EDIT: I managed to get the PC method working but would still appreciate the help with the phone method

Guys i've got a lot of complaints from people who are trying to hack their phones on Vista. I personally tried it on my vista and xp and it worked fine on both but a few frenz of mine were not successful on their vista machine and when they did the same thing on an XP machine then it worked fine. Its funny really. Dont know why this happened. Give it a try. ;)

HEY GUYS may be that could help you i did this and got it working
by default the port in TRK application is 1 change it to match the port in your python script.
in my case my port is 7 in device manager so i put 6 where it is "serial serial" in python script and put same in trk application also change to USB if it reads bluetooth in TRK.

You won't see anythg when running caps on/off, only way to check is to go to X-plore and check if u can access sys folder. if u can then it' working and make sure u install caps on/off to ph memory. Hope this helps.

Working like a dream on a Ninty-Five with 21.0.0.16 firmware.

My setup:
Windows 2000 SP4
Latest Nokia Suite
Fresh install of Python.

1. Installed the ActivePython interpreter
2. Installed PySerial
3. Installed AppTRK on the phone (internal memory)
4. Started AppTRK and chose USB connection (error 21 - no connection - normal)
4. Connected phone to PC (phone on PC SUITE)- Phone picked up COM3
5. Back in AppTRK chose connect.
6. Edited the script "hack_perms_s60v3_FP1.py" such that the line
ser = serial.Serial(5)
becomes
ser = serial.Serial(2)
7. Save and run the script.
8. Got myself the nice "!!!!!!candidate!!!!!!!" indication
9. Copied "CProfDriver_SISX.ldd" from "FCA00000's CapsONOFF.rar" to c:\sys\bin
10. disconnect and reboot both phone and PC.
Phone took a little longer than normal to reboot.
11. Installed CapsOff.sisx and CapsOn.sisx
12. Run CapsOff and used the X-plore demo to look at c:\sys - it worked.

1 i think you know how to install python.

2.if you download apptrak for n73me use "save as"...you will have ext file name ".py"

3.very important procedure you need to change the serial com.
ex.if my phone detect com 3 then i will change to com2 (minus 1) also the original com...
it should be com3 (you will change two com)

ex.(original setting)
ser = serial.Serial(23) # I have COM24

result (modified setting)

ser = serial.Serial(2) # I have COM3(same sample above com3)

very infortant procedure before you can hack c:\bin

if ok....save only the py file then double the file....but you need phone and pc connected using using AppTRK (Thanks to FCA00000)

if all ok....you want to verify used x plore ,if c:\bin detected just follow the procedure below...

Well for your phone you have to install the FP1 caps on and off since your phone falls under FP1. ;)

If caps off and on restarts your phone then simply install the modifies xplore available for download in the apps section. ;)

Just use xplore to move the file. Click on options after you have highlighted the file that you want to move and select the copy or move option. The shortcut keys are 1 Copy and 2 for Move. ;)

ribenaboy: thats becos u aint hack ur phone properly. U must install caps or profiler n make sure it works 1st. Then set the hack mode on.
Otherwise u can create the folder RIGHT after performing the hack fm pc.

i can see sys folder and i installed caps on/off, and currently switched to caps off

I don't know what to do next :(

it's same problem as me. so i suggest u using modified xplore rather than capoff.

Did you install the caps on and off. If that doesnt work for you then i suggest you use the modified xplore available for download in the apps section. After that you will be able to access sys and private. ;)

Ok I found a little problem that might be facing by some people like me who have not used X-plore app before. The tutorial is fine and work, but when u go to X-plore and if you don't see the C:\sys that cause you need to enable to show the hidden file from X-Plore ;)

try changing "Software Installation" to "All" in "App. Manager".

try using " . " in you sentence next time ;), coz that would make it a bit easy to read.

maybe for some people that can't apply this hack, make sure that :
The Nokia PC-Suite has been killed
Nb : including the service layer.exe
but, maybe it's better to unistall it and install only the cable driver

and

please use the file manager that are not restricting us from viewing the system file
for example : f-explorer

and if you still can't do it, a nice reboot will help :-D

Longtime I have been observing hack procedure in Various forum. But This thread is the most simplified tutorial for Hack I think. It's so easy to understand that immidiately I hacked my N95-1 V.21.0.016. But now simple problem - If I want to use "modified Xplore" instead of Caps OffOn as you stated above for some people do I need to copy "CProfDriver_SISX.ldd". But i can't find it by search button. I have succesfully performed the hack on my E51 following this wonderfull breaf tutorial :D

The only problem I had was with this app X-plore. This app doesn't have much intuitive interface, so when I was trying to copy the file "CProfDriver_SISX.ldd", I was browsing through this app's menu trying to lern how it works and unaware of my current location pressed the move button while I was on the c:\sys\bin location. Unaware that i have triggered some action I was browsing to location c:\data and trying to open it pressed the ok button on the D-pad. This performed the move action so I accidentally moved the bin folder to c:\data. :afraid: At this moment I thought I have f...ed up the phone and would probably have to do a master reset for a second time in the 10 days I have had this phone (previously i f...ed it up installing the not properly cracked QuickOffice 5 and latter trying to go back to QuickOffice 4). But thankfully I just moved the folder back, performed a restart and everything seemed to work fine.

My point is: for all unexperianced users be carefull how you work this app. There is a reason why this folders are hidden.

No bro. I have 6120c v4.21 and no problem do this tutorial. Don't gv..up do try again.

hi there i really appreciate ur efforts for all of us members though i my self is not able to get through this hacking proc. i have n95(not 8gb). i dloaded all the necessarry files, i followed all the steps install pyth, crack it, com port 11 so wrote (10) in py file, run that py script runs successfully shows dos window with all blaaaa blaaaa ... then at some stage(when sending message 04) it stops and trk app. on my mobile exits and if i start trk app again the procedure in dos windows continues for few more steps(sending msg 05 06 07 08) and then finally ends and in last 4 steps it shows memory at c800000 doesnot look correct and FINALLY when i go to expolrr it doesnt allow me to see the contents of c:\sys\bin (i have already done settings to show system and hidden files and checked all the 4 boxes). can u tell me whats wrong. mine is win xp sp2 or 1 but not 3, n95(not 8gb).

I cant get the apptrk to connect/find my N73. I used xp and vista using latest Pc suite, USB mode and it doesnt show its connected on apptrk but it does on PC suite.. people say about cancel the bluetooth thing that says connect now but when i installed the app and run it for the first time, it didnt come up. It stays on "Not Connected" no matter how i try and connect it. anyone know how can i fix it?

Well, I hacked mine yesterday and since then no Python app work!
I uninstalled Python and all the apps and now I can't reinstall it - keeps saying that the necessary access was not granted!

There´s big problems with this hack with the new E90 FW (210.34.75). It was no problems to hack the phone with the older 7.40.1.2 but now there´s several problems who need to be solved:

1. The attached AppTRK 2.7.x doesn´t work on the new FW. It says "already built in" during installation.
2. A newer edition of the AppTRK (2.89) downloaded from Nokia works on the phone but:
3. The script can´t handle it. Even if the correct ports are added to the script it only says "error" when it tries to connect to the phone. It simply refuses to communicate with AppTRK latest edition.

Please solve this problem. ROMPatcher gives the same errors when it tries to communicate with the AppTRK 2.89.

I can Confirm that, After upgrading from V200 to V210 it stop working.

I cant even find a v2.89 of AppTRK.

I did manage to hack before with ease but with latest firmware i am stuck at connecting my phone with apptrk.

IS firmware 21.0.016 hackable yet with these methods ?

seems like noone is having problems with n95 firmware 21.0.016 its just me i wish i never upgraded firmware v20 to v21. I have tried every possible method and looked on many forums to sort this problem but still no answer.

You have to just sign the file now self sign. then it'll work.

As for those people who are facing problems to hack their phones just use the old version of PC suite i.e. Nokia PC Suite v6.85.14.1 and not the new one i.e. Nokia PC Suite v6.86.9.3 coz the new pc suite has a few fixes. you can search on google and download the older version. ;) Try it out and lemme know. ;)

Well there could be a solution. first of all reformat your phone as it is constantly restarting. then goto this link http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=256538 and install rootsign on your phone. Once youre done then just use the application root sign on your comp to sign the unsigned applications and use them. ;) try it out and lemme know. ;)

never mind it worked.i copied the file to e:\sys\bin\ instead of c:\sys\bin\.

I'm sorry but I didn't read the entire topic, just saw that some people have trouble with restarting phone at capson/off. I had also, but discovered the solution:

1. copy the CProfDriver_SISX.ldd to c:\sys\bin
2. install CapsON
3. install CapsOFF

the order is important!

Have you vista or xp? Does AppTRK say Connected? Did you choose you port number minus one? Which cable version do you have? It does not work with the latest drivers anymore, you will have to uninstall everything from Nokia (PCSuite,Nokia Software updater,Flashing Cable Driver,Nokia Connectivity Solution and PC Connectivity Solution <--not sure of the name of the last item, but it's below the letter N in the list, but it's name does not beging with "Nokia") and install an older driver. It worked for me.

Hi guys.. When i connected my N82 in pc suite mode, the device manager ports list does not show the COM port number. It just displays Nokia N82 USB in the COM port list. How will i get to know the correct COM number in this case? Please help.

could see c:\sys but not its contents

ran capsoff
back to xplore
can access c:\sys\bin etc

I'm on KT610 and both AppTRK 2.8.5 and HelloCarbide cannot allow me to go to c:\sys\bin .. perhaps new security ..

AppTRK will result in certificate error, HelloCarbide runs, but doing Menu 1 doesn't result in any response from the phone. Switching to Xplore, c:\sys still can't be opened.

I've hacked my UIQ3 phone with AppTRK by SWMail, and following the same process seems not working with KT610 (LG Phone). Perhaps the security has been further tightened?

mate, N82 v30 is still unhackable, this hacking method here works only on previous firmware versions, so we the N82-users have to wait a little bit longer for a new hacking method...just hope there is someone out there who works on that...:D

Hi, I have got a E66 with the latest firmware I just updated this afternoon ver 110.07.126. I believed it is a European firmware.

After I have updated it, all the previous hack methods do not work in my phone anymore. All the softwares that I used to have in my phone were refused installation with the message "Certificate Error. Please contact the software supplier" :wrong:

I wonder if anyone out there or the sifus..... can help me out on this issue... really desperately want to hack my phone so that I can have all the fun again...... :confused:
