View Full Version : Symbian Garmin MapSource maps unlocker
IOJI 17th April 2008, 20:56 I searched entire forum but the search function did not find anything similar. If it's double post, please dear moderators delete it. I have all maps unlocked in my mapsource but there are people who don't. So, here it is:
How?
Put files from rar-archive in your c:\garmin dir on your pc & start “All.bat”. And ALL your maps, installed in MapSource will be unlocked. Now you can put your maps to any Garmin device or Mobile XT or Que without *.unl files.
No messing with MapIDs, device IDs, keygens or .unl files

There was a mapsource unlocker posted here somewhere.
However this seems nice but I can't download anymore
I get:

Thanks, Adrian
SawyerX 17th April 2008, 21:27 does this really work? I mean you said uploading to a garmin navigation. Arent there extra securtiy things build in to disable uploading to a Nuvi?
I would need my Garmin Nuvi updated to City Navigator 2008 if this really works.

It seems to work, you could do a backup for your files and you could feel free to try this, even give us feed back.

Thank you Ioji for the upload.
I think the app was posted here:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
However it's a different section and the poster did not mention the fact that it will free you from creating .unl files. I have more than 4 maps and when I want one I rename 2 maps and 2 .unl files. With this I'll only have to rename 2 maps.

philma292 18th April 2008, 06:03 Thanks a lot, Ioji! This works extremely well on my E61i!
I formed a map from MapSource, to include California and Colorado, two states I visit most often. The map works without an .UNL file, just as you stated. Now this map coexists with my China map, and I switch back and forth between maps.
The only caution is that transferring a new map will wipe out the existing gmapsupp.img. What I did was to rename my most often used map, China, to gmapsup2.img. The new map is always automatically named as gmapsupp.img by MapSource. This way when planning a travel, I can simply transfer a new map to the cell phone as gmapsupp.img, without overwriting the existing "home" map.
IOJI 18th April 2008, 08:33 Thanks for feedback Aaaadrian and Philma292, yes, it seems like PapaDocta posted a link to this in a thread answering to someone who needed help, but i did not find it knowing about it, so i think just few people will find this in that thread. Anyway, thanks PapaDocta and repp to you.

SawyerX 18th April 2008, 23:21 Well I tired it and it seems to work for Nuvi also. If I only could figure out how to remove the old card. Fomrating the memory wont work I guess. It will just brick my unit or?

SawyerX 19th April 2008, 10:05 Ok it works just fine. Formated the inside memory of my Garmin unit. When it booted. It automatically installed back the garmin software from another memory inside. So It cant be bricked. Now City Navigator and Adria 2.0 is installed :P.

Where did I go wrong?
Thanks
SawyerX 21st April 2008, 13:01 Hm sounds like you did all the right things. Maybe that specific map just doesnt work? Have you tried anything others like the City Navigator 2008 also?
I did it like this also.
1.Installed an old mapsource program from Adria 1.5 original CD. But didnt install adria at this point, just the mapsource tool.
2.Installed City Navigator NT2008 from a downloaded DVD ISO. When the Unlock wizzard showed up. I just skipped it, then started mapsource to check if all works ok and it booted up with locked CN2008.
3. Copied the crack to mapsource and executed it which ofcourse unlocked City Navigator and many other thing which were not installed also.
4. Installed Adria now from same original CD without the original CDkey. It was unlocked automatically. Applied 2.0 patch for Adria. Was Also unlocked instantly.
6.Updated mapsource since I couldnt find the map select button. Maybe it was there dunno. Think I just looked in the wrong part of the screen. lol
7. Windows Formated Nuvi 350 like any other hard drive or disket. (my unit is fully updated to 3.5 firmware/software)
8. Plugged out the Nuvi and rebooted it. It atumatically installed back the Garmin folder from what looks to be an inside memory modul for backup.
7. Transfered both Adria and CN2008 to Nuvi at the same time. Took very long like 1-2hours.
The 2 problems I noticed from my install experience:
1.The system seems to be abit messed up since even under Adria it says like all the NT 2008 Europe Citys are installed also even if they are not.
Maybe I should have not tried to transfer both at the same time. Anyway no harm done.
2.Deselecting Adria seem to be a no option from Nuvi now. I can deselect CN 2008 but not Adria for some reason. Maybe same reason as above. But I would never deselect Adria anyway so it isnt a problem for me at all. They still both work together normal.
Now both work without problems. What is funny also that all my old POI points and bookmarks are still in the nuvi. Looks like they are also storred somewhere on a inside memory modul which you dont have access to.
Habbich 9th January 2009, 17:03 It works well with older maps. What about the new NT Europe 09? The map is not instaled under the C:\garmin folder, but in documents&settings/all users/application data or something like that. The unlocker does not find it.
Is there any new version of the unlcoker?
w00tw00t 8th February 2009, 20:14 I couldn't get it to work. I do not have MapSource... is this a must?
Here's what I've done.
1. Put MalSingMaps 2.30b gmapsupp.img into, say C:\map. Get the map here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]").
2. garminunlocker.exe imgset C:\map
3. There is a "done" message, but after loading the map, it says locked :(
It doesn't work if I just ran garminunlocker.exe img gmapsupp.img.
Did I do anything wrong?
w00tw00t 8th February 2009, 20:15 Here's the "help" for using the unlocker:

Ultraman666 4th September 2009, 00:26 After installing new maps via mapsource, my nuvi 200 comes up and says "No Detailed Maps Found that Support Routing. The Nuvi Can Not be Used Without Them" I am using north america nt 2009 maps, have used the unlocker etc but no luck any ideas??
Ipmark_ITA 4th September 2009, 01:06 Mapsource overwrited your good map with a bad one.
The program write only "gmapsupp.img" files and in your nav there was already a map with the same name, not original for sure.
Do you have a backup of the working map?
You may also retry to write again the map with Mapsource, sometimes the program doesn't work properly and the new map can't be read by the nav.
Maybe you have a corrupted installation of Garmin Map too.
Sorry for my bad english.

Sometimes Nuvi units have some problems with unlocked maps (unlocked with unlocker) so, my advice is to use an locked map and afterwords use keygen to create unl file for unlock.
Ultraman666 4th September 2009, 17:48 Sweet I will try that thanks ipmark_ita and loji
I do have the original I just moved it off the unit. I have tried to update map 3 times, tried the unl but havent tried the locked map yet. Thanks
