Hi there,

I just managed 2 get folders with different icons in my N95 8GB (lovely girlfriend guys!!!!).

And now the post has been updated with the final folder!!!!!
(so start getting my files; and overwright them if stated

I have not yet been able 2 get it 2 work with menu animation on....
Then the new icons will get lost...
Turn it animation of and they will return....

When U have hacked your phone U can change it (due 2 acces in c: resource and private)...

1) put the mif file (the 2 versions) in C:\resource\apps
2) put the mif file (the z drive version) in z:\resource\apps
--- only this step if it won't work after restart -----
3) put the .xml file in c:\private\101f4cd2\content
(If stated overwright file then always say yes....)
4) restart your monster and that's it

Those files hold my settings so it can B possible that your apps have been replaced....

I think this is in the wrong section... :sorry:
But i wanted 2 help out a lot of people because this apps section is visited regular..

So mods,
can it stay here 4 a while ??? :thanks:

!!!!notice!!!
ppl this is just s60v3 9.2 phones (fp1) not 9.1(n73, 3250, 5500...) just fp1(n95, n81, n95 8gb, 6120...

Thanx 2 Biggzy and Big thanx to Bueffel for the E-series files because now we have the 14th folder...

As some members at OPDA had reported that,
they cannot use the hack after they installed Nokia PCSuite 6.86,released April 9,
as the cable driver inside PCSuite blocked some of the command transmission,
which causes the FCA00000 hack cannot use.
And PCSuite 6.85 or below will not be affected.

No mate in the first post its clearly mentioned for N95. Only the lates firmwares of the FP1 phones use XML for settings. On pre-FP1 phones its binary file...may be there will be a hack soon for those too ;)

It is also possible 2 change app icons or names with this method...

Got this from Wook (shoot out 2 U):

___for users who allready have hack their devices___
___platiform s60v3 9.2 fp1___
___n95, n81, 6110, 6120,...___
first step:
execute capsoff.exe, use some phone browser (eg. X-plore, fexplore...) and open path c:\private\101f4cd2\content\appshelldata.xml and backup that file(copy to other destination and remember it)
second step:
edit appshelldata.xml in text editor like this:
img1(find uid of app u want rename, in example is gallery renamed to my docs)
save file, go to menu options>exit run menu and see a difference
___change icons___
in default app path (!:\resource\apps\appname_aif.mif not necessary this _aif, but is mif), copy that file to other path for backup, find other *.mif file, rename it to icon file you want to change icon and owerwrite that file in default app path.
reboot phone
___i take no responce for any damage or like that, it was no reports of inconvinience or stg like tht___

Is Nokia 5700 compatible with this?

This hack may also works on other FP1 devices. So on 5700 shud works. I've tried and works with 6120c.

But u have 2move back all the icon position according 2ur needs. When u overwrite the xml file it will change the icon pos as per the settings in the new xml.
Please BACKUP ur original xml file before overwriting it.

PS: Try 2use Babi's latest theme. U can see new additional folder with modified icon.. ;)

Yes....
Edit your *.xml file and use this:

Example 1 two folder (same rank):

Code:

<appshell:folder title_name=xyz ...>
any app
any app
</appshell:folder>
<appshell:folder title_name=123 ...>
any app
any app

Example 2 two folders (folder in folder):

any app
any app
<appshell:folder title_name=123 ...>
any app
any app

</appshell:folder>

To all:

You have to close the folder-tag like this:

</appshell:folder>

It is important were this tag is positioned in your code due to relation of positions of your menu-item later in your menu.

So if you want a folder in folder in folder in ...:

<appshell:folder....> (folder 1 starts here)
<appshell:application...> (any app)
...
<appshell:folder....> (folder 2 starts here)
<appshell_application...> (any app)
...
<appshell:folder....> (folder 3 starts here)
<appshell:application...> (any app)
...
</appshell:folder> (folder 3 ends here)
</appshell:folder> (folder 2 ends here)
</appshell:folder> (folder 1 ends here)

if you want folder after folder after ...:
<appshell:folder....> (folder 1 starts here)
<appshell:application...> (any app)
...
</appshell:folder> (folder 1 ends here)

<appshell:folder....> (folder 2 starts here)
<appshell_application...> (any app)
...
</appshell:folder> (folder 2 ends here)

<appshell:folder....> (folder 3 starts here)
<appshell:application...> (any app)
...
</appshell:folder> (folder 3 ends here)

PS: its like simple mathematics with brackets like 2*(2+2) is not equal to (2*2)+2. So the order of closing folder-tags is very important for your resulting menu-layout.

Think it should be clarified as i just tried this. It will replace all your own default folders and those created by you and your folders will be replaced with and renamed as per the screenshots in this post. I had understood it to add these additional folders in addition to your default folders. So Hopefull this is helpful to others not to make the misunderstandings that i did. Luckily thankful for z-drives dont touch facility that i was able to use its file to copy back to my original c-drive. Thank you for your help and guidance Biggzy in sorting this for me. Now to remember what new folders i had created and where i had placed my applications.

Hum... Good question... But It's better to ask to xONE. The mif file is from him, I don't edit... Sorry I cant help in this one...

But try this unpack the mif file with smartSIS and explore it... maybe you get some where ;)

xone
7th May 2008, 09:29
*.mif file can be unpacked with SmartSIS, you wil get all *.svg files
you can't edit them with Adobe Illustrator or any other vector program but you can see how icon looks like with your phone.. you need change file name of that file from *.dat to *svg..
after you check what icons you wanna and make correct order you can pack it to 1 file using SmartSIS.. to get correct order in your *.mif file name files like 01, 02, 03 instead of 1, 2, 3 as SmartSIS unpacked it..
after you pack it uids should start with 16384 and every icon is even number (masks for icons are odd =uid+1)..
i hope you understand me (i'm autodidact in english :o)

Hey buddy after your amazing find about the xml and all i did some studying of the xml and managed to give each special folder a minor and major id which allows all the 15 folders to be customized by themes but for that too work you need to use the menu.mif and xml file i modded to give each folder a id, basically what Piciar is saying is that if you use the xml and menu,miff i posted and install the themes all the 15 folders is change, for more info check out my thread its got a huge explaination but i bet you already know all of it as you discovered it!!! amazing find buddy, oh yea and nice so far with the animated icons i'm sure your complete the set!!!

Bro, editing icons using Menu Editor won't make the folder icon changes if we use 15-folder-themes (like Babi, Ivanov, Giambi, Taieb recently made). I guess bcoz it doesnn't look at C:\resources\apps\menu.mif.
Too bad, isn't it? :suicide:
Do u guyz have any idea how to modify it? I was wondering where it (Menu Editor) have the iconsets... Maybe we can put the menu.mif there, too.
Sorry, if I posted this in this thread. Still have no update/responds on Menu Editor's thread.

Zylam Marex
29th June 2008, 04:21
you know if we extract the icons from menu editor and find addresses to the icons in its miff we'll still have to edit the xml file and tell it to find the icons from the menu editior instead but that would be the same as Rolan95d's trick anyway, it actually doesn't matter where the icons are...the theme looks at the xml file for the icons and i too was thinking how menu editor does it....the truth is all the icons are in menu editor i haven't tested but i think menu editor doesn't even touch the xml....for example make a few "special folder icons" using menu editor.....than uninstall menu editor....the special folders icon will disappear.....

you know a good test would be if someone tries menu editor on a N73, cause N80 and N73 don have xml files......but sorry bro chances look slim....

I am not able to install menu editor right now, I don't know why, I could before, but I remember that I was looking for something in C:\ with Y-Browser and came across a folder that was made by menu editor and it had a .mif file inside it so that's maybe the file menu editor uses to locate the icons? It had 16 icons inside it (15 special folders + 1 normal folder).

Could someone look that up while I try to install this app?

Thanks

I managed to install this application, menu editor, but I cannot open it :\
I believe the problem is that I have the newest python 1.4.4 and it works with 1.4.2 but then again I had 1.4.3 when I first installed it and it worked now it doesn't (I did a firmware upgrade though I had the last version just to format my phone)...

Could someone help me? There is an unsigned version WITH python but there is NO unsigned version WITHOUT python.... I just want to install an unsigned version modified without python :\

Hello atocruz
In order for this to work your phone has to be hacked..

Follow these steps:

1. Copy "Menu.mif" into "C:\resource\apps\"

2. Copy "appshelldata.xml" into "C:\private\101f4cd2\content"
if it asks you to overwrite, just do so

3. restart your phone and enjoy

I don't know how the appshelldata.xml file would look like since I don't know how the icons are placed in the .mif file or what names they have... but this is the method to change icons :)

Hello xone

I know this was a while ago but I am still in the dark.. :p Can you please tell me how to know what ID's I should type in appshelldata file in order to use the different icons I merged into a .mif file?

let's say I have a .mif file and inside it I have 50 icons, the names of the files are 00 to 50. in my appshellxml file in how do I know what to enter in following optiosn:

icon_id=""
mask_id=""
icon_skin_major_id=""
icon_skin_minor_id=""

where do I find all those id's?

Thank you

Okay I read your text again and got how the id numbering works :) I got the mask id too so know about the major and minor skin id. what about those 2?

Hello atocruz
In order for this to work your phone has to be hacked..

Follow these steps:

1. Copy "Menu.mif" into "C:\resource\apps\"

2. Copy "appshelldata.xml" into "C:\private\101f4cd2\content"
if it asks you to overwrite, just do so

3. restart your phone and enjoy

The icon_skin_major_id= and icon_skin_minor_id= id's bro you can put whatever you what....this is like a reference to that folder......say you put major id as: 101F86E3 and minor id as: 0001.....tah in carbide you add a 3rd party app and make it non-application its asks for the major and minor ids.....put the ones you put in your xml and you can change that icon using a theme............

I made a xml with all the major and minor ids in this thread
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=252213

...i also made a visual display:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2119/2476016650_b73146e9e6_o.jpg

all the theme makers are using them (hopefully)....if you use them than all the folder icons should change in the themes.

Later bro.....hope this helps

It seems that Menu Editor is an easy .xml editor. If we change one folder using it, it surely changed the icons resource (it edited the .xml) to C:\resource\apps\menu editor\*.mif FYI, there're some .mif in it: menu1.mif, menu2.mif, etc (I forgot :ashamed:).

So our option is to ask the maker to change this address to our .mif source:
C:\resource\apps\menu.mif

I've made a post to the thread in OPDA. Let's hope they'll answer it.
Hmm...:afraid:

yea thats a really good idea, hopefully their do that....but you know i was just thinking.....like i got the folder icons to be changed just by making my own minor and major ids.....if you make the menu you want with menu editor....than open up your xml and put this line in for each folder icon:

icon_skin_major_id="101F86E3" icon_skin_minor_id="0002"

at the end for each folder and use the ids in that folders pic i just posted higher.....it could actually work

You know bro if you find the time post your xml....the one you get after using menu editor and i'll add the major and minor ids...and we'll see if that works....

Interesting, it actually works ZM :D

Ex: icon1 (Connectivity folder) --> I add major and minor id u made:
<appshell:folder title_name="icon1" long_name="icon1" short_name="icon1" applicationgroup_name="newgroup" icon_file="C:\resource\apps\MenuEditor\Menu.mif" icon_id="16388" mask_id="16389" newicon="icon1" icon_skin_major_id="101F86E3" icon_skin_minor_id="13FB"/>

The icon changed like in the screenshot below :hifive:

So I guess, I should suggest the OPDA team to add editor for major and minor id u used, right? Hehe...

Good News drBubu....i found a way to get the folder icons to change even if you use menu editor....

Heres the ending of My XML file....i'm using the standard N95 8GB layout but i made a folder called my apps....you know i put rompatcher and all in that....(i did not use menu editor to make the folder)

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3058/2636374144_6fa97cc7f6_o.jpg

Now i installed Menu Editor and i made a new folder called Zylam and using Menu Editor i changed its icon to the Green Man Folder..

This is what my XML looked like after using Menu Editor

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3105/2635549181_cbbabe4e0f_o.jpg

See that highlighted part....thats the addition Menu Editor made....as you can see there is no minor or major id here which is why the icon doesn't change

Now what i did was i added this line:

icon_skin_major_id="101F86E3" icon_skin_minor_id="0003" at the end of the folder tag..

Now this is the minor and major ids i made for the green man (check the folder visuals pic above)

So this is what the XML became:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3060/2635549473_3eda2795e7_o.jpg

So to Sum it all up:

1. make the menu you want using menu editor..make as many folders with special icons and once done open up your xml and find the names of the folders you made.

2. The tag for that folder will end as such:

icon_id="16406" mask_id="16407" newicon="icon9">

Now right before the brackets paste this line:

icon_skin_major_id="xxxxxxx" icon_skin_minor_id="xxxx"

3. Now where the X's are put in the major and minor ids of the folder icon you chose: Eg like chose the Green Man Folder and by looking at the folder visuals pic i posted higher the Green Man Folder has Major ID: 101F86E3 and Minor ID: 0003.....so replacing these values with the X's would make this:

icon_skin_major_id="101F86E3" icon_skin_minor_id="0003"

Thats it....copy back your xml and replace the old one and restart your phone and the icon should change.....with the themes...try it out bro

Hello guys

I managed to install this application, menu editor, but I cannot open it :\
I believe the problem is that I have the newest python 1.4.4 and it works with 1.4.2 but then again I had 1.4.3 when I first installed it and it worked now it doesn't (I did a firmware upgrade though I had the last version just to format my phone)...

Could someone help me? There is an unsigned version WITH python but there is NO unsigned version WITHOUT python.... I just want to install an unsigned version modified without python :\

Install again but on phone memory. That fixed the same problem for me.

Hello

Nice post I have already hacked and applied this changes to my phone but I have a general question that people may be interested in...

My menu is in english so I didn't have any problems replacing the menu.mif and the .xml file but what if someone wants to keep his/her menu in another language? This replacement will turn their menus to english.. is there a solution for this?

Thanks

I tried this, but I think the only way is to use the original Menu.mif in Z: for the standard icons. You can add more in the xml file with MenuEditor, which will point to the expanded Menu.mif in the C: drive, but those folders will always stay in the language of the .xml file...so if you switch betwen languages, you will only see the standard ones change.
I only added Games and GPS in mine, so I don't really mind.. (they are more or less universal :)) but if the master hackers come up with a solution to this...it would be amazing :)

heres the complete tag of the Music Folder in the N95 8GB's xml, this is compete stock i have not chnaged or messed with it in any way...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3066/2651030308_4f2b5cc804_o.jpg

see that highlighted part^^^ all the folder's have that sort of tag:

short_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_title;"

only the folders...but the applications have Uid's where-as the folders do not...

Now i believe that the system software looks at the applicatiosn Uids and thats how the language of the applications changes...

And since the folders have no uids they have that extra strand and i believe that this is how the system software changes the language of the folders...

But that's just something i've assumed...and as always gotta run a few tests to make sure...

The test
---------------------------
when i change my system language from english to arabic or even to french the music folders name also changes to that language....good

----> But what i did i was i took out that strand from the music folder's tag in the xml and used that xml which had no line as this anymore in the music folder tag:

short_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_title;"

And than i changed the system language....wanna know what happened?.....

Well than stay tuned and you'll see the million dollor question right after the break....:hehe: sorry i just hate commerical breaks:LoL:

The Result: No mater what language i changed it to French, Arabic the Music Folders Icon did't change into that language....so theroy was a success!!:hifive:

Now Tyx what this means is you gotta add something like this line for the games and GPS folder in your xml for that folders tag..

Now i don have the complete list of all folders language tags these are all the ones i got so far:

Important: Note these are the names i found in the xml...to avoud confusion...cause if you look closely the tools folder (the one with the spanner) is actually referred to as "configurations"....so when you edit you xml you should have no probs....

Music Folder:
short_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_musicfolder_title;"

Tools folder (or "configurations" in xml)
short_name="&qtn_apps_conffolder_grid;" long_name="&qtn_apps_conffolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_conffolder_title;"

Connectivity Folder
short_name="&qtn_apps_commsfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_commsfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_commsfolder_title;"

Utilities Folder
short_name="&qtn_apps_utilitiesfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_utilitiesfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_utilitiesfolder_title;"

Applications Folder (Red Box) (Installed in XML)
short_name="&qtn_apps_installed_grid;" long_name="&qtn_apps_installed_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_installed_title;"

Office Folder (The one with the little Calender) (Organiser in XML)
short_name="&qtn_apps_organiser_grid;" long_name="&qtn_apps_organiser_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_organiser_title;"

Update: Got the Help Folder

Help Folder
short_name="&qtn_apps_help_grid;" long_name="&qtn_apps_help_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_help_title;"

Update 2: Games and Internet Folders Thanks to Tyx

Games

short_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder_title;"

Internet

short_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder;" long_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder_list;" title_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder_title;"

---------------
Now if someone who has access to xml files of other phone, if they could provide that Folder Language Strand for the miissing folders...than we could have a complete language changing...theme changing 15 set folders!!!!:hifive:

How ever there could be a few problems.....that strand will tell the system the lagnuage ID of that folder but you know how different region phones have different languages...maybe nokia did't put the names for all the 15 folders of tha language fitted phone? who knows maybe they did?

and another prob what about duplicate folders? theres two office folders (pen and calender ones) and two kinds of Applications Folders (red box and blue box) will they have the same tag?

Hope that helps....untill the next theroy that pops up in my head Later Guys :hifive:

That's great Zylam :) I guess that needs reading from Z:\resource\apps\Menu.mif though, instead of the Menu.mif in C:, from this thread or MenuEditor, right? So we need to manually change paths that MenuEditor produces (or even write the whole .xml ourselves -too much for my applications), to point there. And of course add the major and minor ids...

I have an N73 which will have the games folder, but it's not cracked. If no one else steps up, I'll do it ASAP. But which phone has the GPS folder?

Also, how about animation? All the files that the m3g_icon_file tag is pointing to are in Z:\resource\m3gicons\ . The normal ones (appsf.m3g, musicf.m3g etc), and a bunch of other .m3g's (e.g.101FE41A.m3g, 20001BB9.m3g, etc) which I think are not relevant to the folders. If someone can extract from his phone the m3g files for the rest of the folders, that would be great, no? :)

No don get confussed here Tyx, the reason i got Z path here is cause like i said that from a complete stock XML file from the N95 8GB, i already made a XML which has all the Folders (you can find it here: (http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=252213)

But that XML i made just has the basic 15 folders, it doesn't have the language Tags for folders or animation locations....now once i find all the Language Tags for all the folders i'll update the xml with them and as for the Animation Rolan95d's working on that and i think hes got all of them except for two folders.....

I'm sorry bro but N73 is different it doesn't have a xml for the menu its got some other thing.

But i'm sure we've find the language tags for all the folders pretty soon

Tyx
9th July 2008, 16:06

OK, time for me to contribute :)

I didn't like the N-gage sign as the only games folder in my N95 8GB.
So I added the folder with the dice, and with ZM's help and some guesswork, it's now international. Only the animation is still missing :) For the time being, I used the N-gage animation for games, and the Web animation for the internet.

So, we have for games:
...title_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder_title;" long_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder_list;" short_name="&qtn_apps_gamesfolder;" applicationgroup_name="games" m3g_icon_file="20007B39.m3g" ...

and for internet:
...title_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder_title;" long_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder_list;" short_name="&qtn_apps_internetfolder;" applicationgroup_name="internet" m3g_icon_file="10008D39.m3g" ...

Finally my N95 8GB looks nice and tidy, with the N-gage application in the games folder with the other games, where it belongs, and it switches between languages... if only we had all the original animations ;)

Btw, ZM... the "Help" did not work on my N95 8GB. :(

I wanted 2 wait untill the 15 folders were complete but I have loooked 4 almost 2 months and no luck (tried 8 m3g icons from different phones)...

This will create 13 animated icon folders (without the green man and the internetglobe).....
There R also some extra 3d animation icons in there that will make some of your apps come 2 live....

I won't post all the screenshots because I want 2 keep the animation as a surprise....
