FCA made another proof-of-concept for the hacking.
I think it works on all S63v3 phones.
First, you need to install any file browser, for example FExplorer or SExplorer.
Then, download and install

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Start your file browser. Go to C:
Try to access c:\sys
It should fail because don't have permissions.
Don't close the browser.

Start HelloCarbide
Options->Menu1
it will say 18 messages. Say YES to all of them.
It will crash. That is OK

Switch to the task for the file browser.
Try again to access c:\sys
It should work.

Now you can't open any other application. You need to restart your phone.

If this process doesn't work, send me all the messages, and the files
e:\x6C117000.bin
and
e:\x6C117000b.bin

If it works, I will enhance this. But first I want to know that it allows all-browsing.

Note: if you are using X-plorer, you need to activate the option to see hidden and system files/folders.

Very good information. I was thinking on that same solution, but automating it.

Please, everybody: don't work on similar solutions and don't think too hard. In the next days I will publish a clean solution that includes certificates and ROMPatcher.

On E51 fw v.200.34.36 it's not working.

I can't install s60_3_1_app_trk_2_7.sisx (error message: app is built-in)
and cannot install binpda hack (certificate expired)...

I guess Nokia is fighting back.

Of course you can't... Isn't that file anymore for new firmwares.

The new file is called hellocarbide.sisx but is a test and was removed some hours ago.

I know it's my fault, but now some phones might get bricked and those poor people will not know how to fix them.

FCA this doesn't work on the E51 with the latest firmware. Well the app opens (I mean the helloworld app) but when I choose the right option from the menu nothing happens. So I guess that this solution doesn't work on the newest firmware now :(

I've managed to install the newest TRK app, the older ones on this forum won't install saying that the component is built in. But none of the programs connect to it correctly (ROMPatcher & BiNPDA Hacking Tools)

so this is a bummer :(

EDIT: FCA if you're able to make your ROMPatch app work with TRK 2.8.9 API version 3.3 everything will be ok I presume ;)

I wasn't refering only to new firmwares...i guess this solution works/will work with all phones regardles of firmware...its the best solution. I see it like this: make a sisx that "installs" installserver.exe, next install hellocarbide (maybe make hellocarbide transfer installserver.exe to c:\sys\bin after doing its thing) and you're good to go...with minimal pc usage or if using wireless no pc :P

-nokia 5700 v03.83.1
-N78 (I assume version 11.043 )

The current problem is that the program does nothing in Menu1

hurray, i tested the latest beta version for nokia 5700 and its working on it congratulations to fca for that now wait for fca to realease another open version for all and as far i know its very difficult for nokia to counter this attack by fca. He is very genius verry verry genius. I tried to understand a bit what he did and what i found is that its nearly impossible to counter this hack by fca. Yeh you can and don,t forget to copy the installserver.exe file to c/sys/bin after that just restart your fone and install any file without any cert.

I'm not saying it has advantages over the apps you mentioned, I'm just using this one as it has a nicer Icon and I like the graphic interface better, I guess I'm just liking it for the visuals ;)

In order to install this the certificate needs to have full permissions, a developer cert is not enough. I am sad to say that a windows PC with Nokia suite is still needed (for apptrk or ROMloader etc.) at the time of writing. :afraid:

After going CapsOn I signed this with my developer cert and tried to install it..
I got an insufficient permissions error :afraid:

try to find installserver.exe file in this section after you get it copy it to c/sys/bin after that you are all done no need of any cert any more.

Well I don't use ROMPatcher because I have no need to tweak the ROM area ;)

As for the hellocabride application, you just need to use it once, then you can install whatever you want. I'm not pushing anyone to install the BiNPDA application am I? It's just one of the tutorials, you don't like it? Don't do it, it's a free world. And it's my business whether I like it because it has a nice icon or because I compiled it to sis (I wouldn't do it in the first place if I didn't like it). It was also my effort to extract the apropriate files from the phone to make the sis work right?

Besides this thread isn't supposed to be the likes of other ppl, right? So you're a little of topic.

I can tell you one more thing, when I turn the caps on and when I open the BiNPDA application I can actually see on it's main screent that the caps are turned on, and this is why I like the app so much, besides it's icon.

almost forgot: if you like this, the best way you can help is by going to the nearest hospital and give some blood. It helps a lot of people.

Warning: it doesn't work on all models.
If doesn't give permissions, please make a ROM dump and send it to me.

Remember: first try to hack using the other methods: python script, ROMPatcher, BinPDA, ... only if they fail, try this new method. for example, if you have N93 or newest E90 firmware.

when you install the app just open it, open Menu1 and answer Yes when prompted (Yes/No)
the app will exit. You're phone has all the caps right now. But there is one problem, you can't open any new apps. So I suggest that you open X-Plore before running the app and downloading the installserver.exe from this forum before you run this appliaction.

So:

1. Install the hellocabride app from the attachment
2. copy installserver.exe from this attachment to your phone (if using BT it will be in the Inbox ;) )
3. run X-PLore
4. switch to the menu and run the hellocabride application
5. Press options and chose Menu1
6. Answer Yes (it will be the right soft key)
7. The app will close.
8. Navigate to X-Plore and copy the installserver.exe to c:\sys\bin (remember to set x-plore to see hidden and system folders/files ;) )

you're done, you can install any unsigned app even with full capabilities from now on (ROMPatcher, BiNPDA Platform Security) to be able to turn off/on caps of the Symbian Operating system in the future with ease ;)

You can use an other filemanager ofcourse, X-Plore isn't mandatory ;)

Remember to reboot the phone when you're done

ITS BEEN TESTED ON E51 WITH NEWEST FIRMWARE and ON N82 WITH THE LATEST FIRMWARE

Blesio, can u pack installserver.exe into sis/x file so we can install it rather than copying it to c:/sys/bin. More simple i guess

I don't think that this will work, as the system is still checking wheather there is a newer older version of the same component, in this case the installserver.exe is an existing component and Symbian will not allow this. Besides you will not be able to install this file because the system will be using the old installserver.exe which is in the ROM and will not allow to install an unsigned app. Even if you sign this sis, the system will not allow to install it because the file's UID is from a protected range. So no can do SIR ;)

Sorry, you have to do it the hard way :)

I also suggest that the first post is modified as the steps written there have no relevance to the attachment ;)

That's right, you just need to use x-plore to copy the installserver.exe to c:\sys\bin and then you can forget about this app and install ROMPatcher to turn on or off the phone caps.

Don't know about the other options. I don't use them.

Now it is a simplier way to hack your phones.

But I recommend you to use it only if the other methods don't work.

Same procedure as first page, exept that instead of 18 messages, you will see 'Done...probably' , and then it will crash.

After it, I suggest installing CapsOnOff to make the process simplier.

You will need to allow all 'signed' and 'unsigned' applications to be installed...

Check under Applcation Manager -> Settings -> Software Installation and change 'Signed Only' to 'All'...

It depends on your phone. I am using the new HellCarbide and i still get the 88 messages reply and i have to press yes about 8 times before the app crashes.

Worked fine on my E90 but after a hard reset some applications wouldn't restore - hardly surprising really. Re-applied the 'fix' and all is fine now. Those morefun games are great ;)

Why do you need to install TRK? Every thing can be done without using the computer. even ngage games can be installed without using the TRK application.even rompatcher is available in sis format so you don't need TRK.

That's a little strange as the hellocabride app only makes difference in the RAM after it runs. It doesn't make changes to the firmware itself, turning the phone off and on clears what hellocabride changes so I don't know what happend to your friends phone but I don't think that it was hellocabride.

Just to say thank you for the good job with this hack ! But there are at least 2 pre-fp1 phones that the installserver.exe (for prefp1 phones) makes any sis file "file corrupted" like the E50 (FW 07.36.0.0) and the 3250.

Also on my fp1 phone i can uninstall hellocarbide but on the prefp1 e50 i cannot (also there's no icon, only the app name).

Can i help with something to solve the problem ?

FCA made another proof-of-concept for the hacking.
I think it works on all S63v3 phones.
First, you need to install any file browser, for example FExplorer or SExplorer.
Then, download and install

Start your file browser. Go to C:
Try to access c:\sys
It should fail because don't have permissions.
Don't close the browser.

Start HelloCarbide
Options->Menu1
it will say 18 messages. Say YES to all of them.

It should work.

The use is:

when you copy the apropriate installserver.exe and install BinPda SecMan you will be able to intstall unsigned apps and with SecMan turn off/on the caps of your phone ;)

That's very strange. Maybe try to format the phone. I've had the N82 with the newest firmware and never had problems with installing x-plore.
one more thnig comes to my mind before you try that. Can you check the date? But then again you would have a different error message if that were the case. So if you don't have anything to lose try the format.
Oh and BTW did you upgrade with the data preservation function? Did you have all the apps installed after the upgrade? Maybe this is another problem? Don't know really. I've never had this problem. Try formatting the phone. This is the only thinng that comes to my mind.

Can Anyone help as How to hack Nokia E71. Please note the earlier hacking tools are not working on this phone as i already have a N82 which I have sucessfully hacked and i am not new to this.

Everything worked in my e66, and i could see the sys folder, when i restarted i couldn't install any app. It gives me an error file corrupted. So I am stuck.

It works on new E51. What should I do next? How to install the unsigned SW? I can't access the sys folder anymore after restart the phone.

How do I undo a hack? I did the following:
Installed HelloCarbide.sis
Opened HelloCarbide, went to Options -> Menu1 -> Yes.

Restarted phone.

Installed Install BiNPDA Security Manager v1.0 Internal.

Just an idea....

I am thinking of taking all the required steps (hellocarbide, caps on/off, installserver) just to be able to install a root certificate (leftup/binpda...) in my e65.
Then, as long as the certificate lies inside the phone, i can sign any unsigned app with the certificate (.cer) and key (.key) associated with the root certificate (.dat) and install it.

So, maybe I could uninstall hellocarbide/caps (don't want any other stuff, just install apps)
Can I also remove hacked installserver (ofcourse before hellocarbide/caps) and bring back the original (before the hack)? Will the apps (original and hacked) be functional after that?

I guess this would eliminate some risks...

Good move. I agree that people should try to read through and test.

I have a problem though. The phone is LG, not Nokia. On spec it's stated as S60 v3 FP1. However, none of the APPTrk I tried works, it always gives certificate invalid error during installation. Using Sispack, I can see that it's signed by Nokia, and the date/time is valid.

When I tried HelloCarbide method, Menu 1 result in nothing (no response from phone). Test with Xplore, it's still not hacked :(

Can it be because the phone is LG, it won't accept Nokia's certificate?

I tried Drakkarious method, got it installed, but still my Xplore cannot open Private and Sys.

On my UIQ (M600), I've done SWmail Hack from day 1 method (AppTRK), up to latest CapSwitch. So, it seems that LG has tighten it, or Nokia has?

Can confirm that this method works on the Nokia E71 and that I had no luck with Drakkarious method.

Here is the full procedure:

Here's the hack for E51 with new firmware ;)


when you install the app just open it, open Menu1 and answer Yes when prompted (Yes/No)
the app will exit. You're phone has all the caps right now. But there is one problem, you can't open any new apps. So I suggest that you open X-Plore before running the app and downloading the installserver.exe from this forum before you run this appliaction.

So:

1. Install the hellocabride app from the attachment
2. copy installserver.exe from this attachment to your phone (if using BT it will be in the Inbox ;) )
3. run X-PLore
4. switch to the menu and run the hellocabride application
5. Press options and chose Menu1
6. Answer Yes (it will be the right soft key)
7. The app will close.
8. Navigate to X-Plore and copy the installserver.exe to c:\sys\bin (remember to set x-plore to see hidden and system folders/files ;) )

you're done, you can install any unsigned app even with full capabilities from now on (ROMPatcher, BiNPDA Platform Security) to be able to turn off/on caps of the Symbian Operating system in the future with ease ;)

You can use an other filemanager ofcourse, X-Plore isn't mandatory ;)

Remember to reboot the phone when you're done

this happens a lot when you update the firmware or an uninstall fails.Connect your phone to the computer as mass storage .
Go in the private/10202dce folder... and just delete what is in that folder, reboot and you shouldn't see the phone trying to install things after reboot.

Hi, since I have received help from this forum to restart my phone after it got stucked due to my mistakes in installing the QO v5.0.32, I would like to contribute a lil' just over here as I am a newbie painstakingly going thru all the steps mapped out by the masters.

I have followed the detailed steps laid out here in this forum and have successfully hacked my E66. I then immediately installed the Nokia Maps v2.0 which was uploaded in one of the forums here and it went well. I think my hack is successful.

However, I have 2 questions that I would sincerely hope the masters here can enlighten me.

1. After restarting my phone, I went in to check the c:\sys\bin file and apparently the bin folder is no longer there. Is this supposed to be this way ? Is this correct ?
2. Where can I find my firmware version ?

As I have gone thru the whole thread, I noticed that there are people who seem don't be able to see the c:\sys\bin folder. Guys, you will only be able to see that folder after go thru the process of activating carbide.sisx (Option > Menu1 > Yes). You won't be able to see it before you initiate this process.

i'm having the same problem on my E66.
Followed the steps in the 1st post and could acces c:\sys\bin from X-plorer immediately after running HelloCarbide. Rebooted phone and now cant access c:\sys\ Also tried installing CorePlayer1.2.5 by BiNPDA but didnt work.
Am i missing something?
