More Reset Generation (nee Project White Rock) N-Gage details surface
Last Friday we reported that Nokia's shadowy 'Project White Rock' had been given the title Reset Generation and a release date of some time in summer. Details were scant, but the story contained a couple of keywords: 'user-generated content' and 'spoof characters.' The game was officially unveiled later that day, so here's what more we know.
According to game site Gamecyte, Reset Generation is named for long-time gamers. It contains a set of ten characters that resemble "legendary champions" like Sonic, Mario, Bomberman, Master Chief, and even a lone space invader, all designed by notable industry artists. Apparently this cast will collectively appeal to the full spectrum of players, from casual to hardcore, old to young.
The characters are feisty and the dialogue promising, with Ninja spurting Engrish constructions like "Rescue? Forget it! Try my fist!"
Tech site Gizmodo has uncharitably described this cast as a shower of "knock offs," but Nokia is of course going for a blend of homage and parody. You know, like in Shrek. (Interesting fact, literary theory fans: this is called 'intertextuality.')
Nokia has said that Reset Generation is the "world's first videogame about videogames," and while this isn't strictly true (The Simpsons jumps immediately to mind) it may well be the first such game on mobile, and in any case it's a neat idea.
The music comes from celebrated retro ensemble 8 Bit Weapon (well, insofar as people with programming ability and an interest in '80s computer games are 'celebrated' in this topsy turvy world of ours). They write the kind of bleepy music that used to accompany C64 games back in the day.
From the screenshots, it's looking pretty good, although how well the 'homage' characters come across remains to be seen.
Gameplay-wise, it's going to be a mash-up of puzzle and turn-based strategy. More on that later, when our American correspondent brings you the full preview. Click 'Track It!' to get the heads up.

More Props for Reset
[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
GameRevolution.com is featuring Reset Generation as the lead story on its website. Here are some choice quotes:
“This has got to be some kind of a first: Game Revolution, covering ‘mobile,’ or cell phone, gaming — dogs and cats, living together, mass hysteria…
“But the news is simply this: Here’s a mobile game that aims to truly be the equal of its PC counterpart, and one aimed even at gamers of an old-school, arcade-generation mindset…

Read the full preview here, and also be sure to check out the Game Revolution podcast (right click to save to hard drive) which also talks about Reset Generation, from about minute 20:00 on.
Next Generation has also posted up some excerpts from the recent EDGE article that first revealed Reset Generation to the world. Here’s a snip:
“Its characters are parodies of the most familiar videogame tropes — a plumber, a hedgehog, an elf, a blocky alien spacecraft. It hinges on the basic aim of having your avatar capture your opponents’ princesses and return them to your castle. It involves special powers and item drops. It features a soundtrack of crazed C64-style music with track names like Nin10do Raver. It asks you to drop Tetris-like blocks on to the board to form ‘combos’.”

More on Metal Gear Solid Mobile!
[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])[Only registered and activated users can see links] ([Only registered and activated users can see links])
The new version of the classic game features original content that can only be found on the mobile platform. Metal Gear Solid Mobile includes 3D art displays, and detailed in-game graphics is claimed to capture the atmosphere of the Metal Gear Solid series and create a depth that draws the player into the game. The tactical espionage action game is developed in conjunction with IdeaWorks3D and utilizing its Airplay 3.5 SDK.
An in-game camouflage system utilizes color samples from the scenery of the real world captured by the handset's camera. Moreover, additional controls are introduced that are made especially for mobile devices.
Taking place between the events of MGS and MGS2, Metal Gear Solid Mobile follows Solid Snake and Otacon as they attempt to halt the development of yet another Metal Gear.
Commenting on the deal, series creator Hideo Kojima said, "I believe that this cooperation between Nokia and Konami will form the perfect match to share the vast potential of mobile entertainment content with users all around the world."
The game is expected to be availabe for download this June!

Statement About Game Transfers
Recently All About N-Gage posted a story regarding the ability to transfer games from one N-Gage compatible device to the next. We have since issued the following official statement regarding this issue.
We have noticed a number of media stories about N-Gage game transfers and wanted to clarify the issue. Due to copy protection, N-Gage games, like most mobile games, are linked to one device. As the value of content increases, a robust copy protection mechanism is essential as it makes it possible for the games industry to invest in N-Gage content.
We acknowledge our customers’ concerns and have been working on a solution that would allow people to transfer purchased N-Gage games to a new Nokia device. We are working with our Nokia Care Centers with an intermediate solution to enable the licensed transfers of games until a final solution is ready to be deployed.
We apologize for the confusion around this issue and look forward to delivering an appropriate solution to transfer purchased N-Gage games to new Nokia devices.

FEATURE: N-Gage’s Next Great Hope
Nokia’s next great hope for mobile gaming unveils the new N-Gage’s flagship title, Project White Rock.
ImageThink of mobile games and you think of instant gratification. Quick to learn, they can be summed up in a line: collect food to grow your snake, build up your tower from blocks. Scott Foe’s (pictured) new game, known until now as Project White Rock, is Reset Generation, and it’s almost impossible to nail down with a snappy description.
But though it might be hard to ‘get’, Foe claims that it’s the highest production value mobile game ever made, and that it will shatter expectations of the platform. Such words from many mouths might be dismissed as bluster, but Foe’s background makes him unwise to ignore.
He’s the designer of Pocket Kingdom: 0wn The W0rld, which was hailed as being the first mobile MMOG and designed specifically for N-Gage’s mobile and connected nature. With this, along with its irreverent yet affectionate textural pokes at gamer culture, it cut a distinctive figure not only on a platform that offered all too few experiences that it could call its own, but also on portable consoles as a whole: confident, daring and an obvious declaration of a love for gaming.
“We’re bringing it back to that point before you didn’t know a pig ate blocks and the joy at discovering that. If you want to plant the flag you’ve got to dare to be different”
A game designer and producer for Nokia, Foe has demonstrated that he has a deep understanding of the strengths of mobile phones for gaming. But, more crucially, he also knows how to harness them. So it’s little surprise that the Finnish giant is looking to him to define a new generation of games for N-Gage’s rebirth, and to ultimately reinvigorate a platform that once appeared capable of supplanting the likes of Nintendo’s handhelds, and has entirely failed to do so. Reset Generation is his answer.
But, though speculation as to the nature of the project has assumed it to be an expansive development of Pocket Kingdom into mobile MMOGs, Reset Generation willfully plays to more established gameforms. At base, it’s a turn-based online strategy game, but that hardly does it justice. Conceptually, it’s an explosion of ideas and appropriations from other games, both in mechanics and aesthetics.
Its characters are parodies of the most familiar videogame tropes – a plumber, a hedgehog, an elf, a blocky alien spacecraft. It hinges on the basic aim of having your avatar capture your opponents’ princesses and return them to your castle. It involves special powers and item drops. It features a soundtrack of crazed C64-style music with track names like Nin10do Raver. It asks you to drop Tetris-like blocks on to the board to form ‘combos’.
ImageThis storm of mechanics and references, the latter a reprise of Pocket Kingdom’s leet-speak and pokes at MMOG culture, threatens to capsize the game. After all, it’s made for mobile, so must be tuned for short matches of five or ten minutes, and also for multiplayer with up to four competitors, and all the ensuing need for balance. But while it initially feels bewildering, even random, rules coalesce and strategies appear. It’s a brave departure from the way mobile games usually work, and Foe is bullish about it.
“Do you remember when you didn’t know the submachine gun did so much damage over time and there were things you hadn’t seen before?” he says in his deliberate, deep, west-coast drawl. “We’re bringing it back to that point before you didn’t know a pig ate blocks and the joy at discovering that. If you want to plant the flag you’ve got to dare to be different.”
Play is divided into three phases. The first is to drop a tetronimoe onto the board to create paths that lead to your opponents’ castles or fallen items – your avatar can move further on your blocks, and runs of five become ‘combos’, denoted by stars, which aid movement still further. When each player has a position and orientation, the blocks are all dropped; squares with multiple drop attempts are left void.
The second is the movement phase, and the third is firing off two bombs to destroy non-combo blocks as a way of carving out space and preventing opponents from making combos, or items (though hitting an item twice will protect it). All control is with one thumb: the directional buttons select position and the centre button confirms moves.
Apart from the central aim of setting out for opponents’ princesses and rushing home with them, the liberal scatters of powerful items mean it’s seldom wise to make direct journeys. Some items, like the paintbrush, lay strips of self-colored combos, springs bounce you across the board, monster boxes release block-eating pigs or player-attacking wolves.

In my opinion, most N-Gage 2nd generation games are relatively lousy compared to the original N-Gage ones. For one, the new games are so small in size that they become almost similar to those s60 3rd Symbian games. Sims Pets clearly exemplifies this as there are only four places you can go to in the game-compared to Java's Dogz 3D, which offers far more, Sims becomes clearly an embarrassment dwarfed by comparison. Then, there's the pathetic genre of games, appealing only to a small group of fans; Midnight Pool, for example isn't exactly what a non-pool fan would call appealing while Mile High is so excruciatingly repetitive that, once again, only a pinball fan can hope to not succumb to ennui. Admittedly, Fifa 08 is infinitely superior to 05 on the old N-Gage, but surely an extra 10mb could have been added to the game for better sounds and possibly commentaries. Fifa games on the Nintendo DS take up around 40mb, and come with commentaries. One would think that phones, perhaps are unable to support such large games, but the fact that the old N-Gage could easily play Ikusa Islands of 45mb clearly vindicates this to be false. That, with the stronger systems of s60 3rd phones, surely even games of 60mb can be supported. And yet, Nokia continues to persist on such games; we can't blame them however, for larger games would have been more costly to make and might not have guaranteed success(case in point, games of the 1st generation). Hopefully, when Star Wars and The Dark Knight are released, this general rule of vapidity does not apply. Truly, I do hope.

No you have to install the .ngage game from BiNPDA in order for it to work.
You also need the tools for the install. But those are provided with the BiNPDA games.

dogz is available
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
From the website it says that it will be available first after 24 hours.
Anyone got it downloaded yet?
I'm asking since I'm using the version 1.01 Build 1296 version of the N-gage client.
Also had some weird experience earlier (with 1.01 1298) whereas I was buying games from within the N-gage application, choose operator billing and didn't get an activation email.
After sending emails to the mods at the N-gage forums I received the activation codes for 2 of the 3 games I "purchased".
It later turned out that I wasn't billed at all for the games.
However my N-gage application were still able to download the keys.
I was using my wifi connection at home when I was doing this.
Sounds too good to be true doesn't it?
I can't confirm if I really wasn't charged as datatraffic cost
(for 24 hours unlimited) in my country cost as much as for the most expensive N-gage games.
Will check this glitch again when Dogz is available and try to purchase it.

Here is some more information on Resident Evil Degeneration that I got from pocket gamer -
"Due for launch later this year - presumably to coincide with the Japanese release of the CG film of the same name - Capcom has dutifully converted and optimised the classic horror/survival series for the N-Gage platform.
"We're thrilled to bring another major franchise to our N-Gage platform," said Gregg Sauter, Director of Third Party Publishing, Nokia. "Resident Evil Degeneration will serve as an exciting new chapter for fans of the series and deliver a unique gaming experience that they will not be able to achieve anywhere else. "
Based around the same events of the upcoming feature length movie, series stalwarts Leon Kennedy and Clare Redfield return and attempt to thwart a terrorist-released virus outbreak at a US airport. The N-Gage adaptation promises to feature top quality 3D graphics alongside multiple missions and two different modes of play.
"The release of Resident Evil Degeneration illustrates our dedication to N-Gage," said Takeshi Tezuka, general manager of Capcom's mobile division. "We believe that the platform is an excellent home for some of our most famous franchises and our dedication to quality and creative thinking has seen us create a unique game with stunning visuals and in-depth game play, never before seen on the mobile."
We can only hope the west won't be left hanging for too long while our Japanese gaming brethren are spoiled rotten with two fantastic new Resident Evil entertainment avenues. Halloween would be the perfect western release date, don't you think (hint hint, Capcom)?"

Resident Evil Degeneration announced for N-Gage
Nokia and Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Degeneration will be released on the N-Gage service later this year.
The title has been designed specifically for the capabilities of N-Gage, allowing for optimised gameplay, two separate play modes and multiple mission types. Resident Evil Degeneration is based partly on the upcoming CG movie of the same name and features well-known characters Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they attempt to destroy a deadly virus that has been released by a terrorist at a U.S. airport.
According to Takeshi Tezuka, General Manager of Capcom’s Mobile Division, "The release of Resident Evil Degeneration illustrates our dedication to N-Gage. We believe that the platform is an excellent home for some of our most famous franchises and our dedication to quality and creative thinking has seen us create a unique game with stunning visuals and in depth game play, never before seen on the mobile."

I hope this will be the java version. It's simply horrible, Re4 mobile japanese version is more better than this.Maybe our cell phones are too weak for RE4 japanese and so this the maximum graphic possible.N-gage 2.0 for now is the same as ngage 1.0. The best graphic game is "splinter cell chaos theory" on n-gage 1.0(Beaten only from COTD), the rest of the games are ridiculous!!

Indeed, SCPT is undoubtedly the best N-gage game, outperforming even the N-gage next-gen ones. As for cell phones being too weak, I beg to differ as the N95 has 332 Mhz of processing speed, as compared to the PSP's 330MHz, and a RAM of 64mb, equivalent to that of the PSP's.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory maybe good, but cotd is better even in graphic.
SCCT has the same graphic quality as brother in arms in n-gage2,how can you guys said that it is the best!

Well, in account of graphics alone, N-gage 2 boasts a greater arsenal of games, undoubtedly. However, in terms of gameplay, games like SCCT are simply far superior. COTD is merely a fishing game, Brothers in Arms takes forever to load and the Star Wars cellweaver is despised by far too many to be considered nice(though I must say that I actually find the cellweaver rather innovative, if not excellent).

they do the crack to help us. they never request any pay to do that. so, be patient. if BiNPDA been paid salary to crack, you will get any game or software crack by them within a minute or maybe hour. Maybe they have own job to do that their boss pay them. or maybe they are the boss busy doing their business. so, relax.. cool.. wait for them.. it will come out soon :) if you cannot wait, just pay the game
as i know, Space Impact Clan update still not out from N-gage. Pro Series Golf already have the update in this forum by BiNPDA before N-Gage upload their update. no major problem about the PSGolf that most of member already solve the problem. as me also using update and fixed from BiNPDA. So, what for BiNPDA crack the PSGolf again? no major update. only error solve. not like Space Impact update with new Clan Battle. But, as i know, still not out. you can read it back in N-Gage Blog on 15 Sept 2008 if i'm not mistaken.

What error you got? if the error is 20914 (i think), you don't have enough credit to purchase. I can purchase easyly last nite when this trial out.

Gives me an error too. And I also have the cracked n-gage application. All other games I have are cracked, but this one I was really thinking of buying it. It's so damn great I think it's worth paying 10 euros. Pitty :suicide:

With ONE released, we're really starting to see what N-gage Next Gen is capable of. This the best game so far. I'm waiting to see how games with graphic 3D acceleration will look like.

This is funny.I got hundrets of cracked files on my phone (dont ask about my pc :) ) and only two times i tried to buy something original that impessed me.
The first was the ngage fishing game and the second was the golf.
But every time i get error and cant pursase the games!!!!!!!
So i am tired ,maybe nokia needs to improove the pursasing system, so i stay in cracked files , sorry nokia...

really dissapointed from this weird game. by the pictures and movies it was supposd to be a real 3d fighter but insted its 2d with 3d avtars.. really cant compare this game to any of the good fighting games franchis (tekken, vf, mk) the gameplay of street fighter/mortal kombat on the snes/gba emu's is MUCH better
imho n-gage 2 is a failure.
