]Now you don't have to have opera to download a file not supported by the default browser(nokia browser for me) . For this trick you need to have Coreplayer . You'll find it on the forum in os 9.1 apps section . Then in coreplayer click on Menu/Tools/Preferences . There press left soft key(select page key) . Select file associations page and select 'Asf Media Files' . Press ok . Exit coreplayer . Then using any file manager browse to C:/Data and edit the file named 'coreplayer.ext' . In the first line you should see 'asf' . Change that to your required extention . I changed it to 'rar' . For eg -
Will become
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<MIMES>
<handler ext="rar" mime="application/vnd.corecodec.coreplayer"/>
Then try to download any file with that extention(rar in my case) and it will work . You're required to hide the download window in the browser before download completes and say no if it asks you whether you want to open the downloaded file . Then click options / save file (in your directory of choice) . Done , you need to edit the file to your requirements once per extension . You don't need opera now do you . Check the screenshots . Though they somehow got jumbled up :oops2:.

There's another way out if you weren't able to click hide before the download completes . Browse to c:/system/dmgr/ (any other folder in there if any) and finally you'll find your file in contents folder in there . Depending upon file size your file may even be placed on the memory card . In that case replace c:/ with e:/ when you try to browse . Where e:/ is memory card .
isn't it a repost?
If it is a double post please forgive me . I've typed all this matter with my thumb on to my phone . Yes it's true everything has been keyed in by me via my mobile phone . All this thumb-paining hardwork goes to drain if that's so . Ah ! Life is so cruel to me .
But hey did you find this alternate route in that post there . I found this one out through personally trying things out in practical . If not then i'm not completely at loss . :)

Any other methods? because i dont want to install CorePlayer...
Sure there is . I've tried it . But you have to install another application . Try Yucca browser or popularly called YBrowser . Edit the file associations with some media player and the effect will be the same . There might be other ways or applications too that would allow you to do so . I'll try to update you when i do find some more . Thanks to everyone who's repped me and also critics who haven't . I'll improve from good or bad comments . And buddy why don't you install coreplayer . It's simply the best player available . In my screenshots too i'm downloading a newer version of it from the default browser . It can play more formats than anything else .

Sir i'm not too much of a techie , but this file is a mime file associations file .
Likewise it's not just these lines of code that work in this trick .
Oh it's difficult to explain . I mean this makes the OS think
"" this unknown filetype can be understood by coreplayer . So , let's accept defeat at this and let coreplayer handle it""
Even though coreplayer doesn't really know anything about it .
In simple words for any file association to exist you need to have the application first . So you have to install coreplayer for things to work . Simply the code or this file won't work . And i have no idea as to editing file associations .
Next Regarding unsigned files,
Just forget them, go here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) and see for yourself COREPLAYER has been opensigned there along with loadz of other files too . This is for everyone , yes, no imei restrictions in those files .
PS: You are required to follow thread rules posted in the first thread .
This is to ensure a quality experience not only for you and me , but also for everyone else .
Thanx

pilo thanks for reply and saagar143 you can download any possible thing on planet earth now , but you must know it's extension . I've downloaded several microsoft exe installer files . Enjoy buddy and thank there coreplayer people for this capability and the symbian os people for being so stupid to allow any app to change mime settings . Remember , even Y-Browser can be used for the purpose of editing file associations by file>open with . Enjoy !!!

Before we get started you need a file explorer (x-plore works great) and the latest CorePlayer .
1. Open coreplayer and goto tools in the options then open preferences.
2. On the prefenences page select the LEFT softkey called SELECT PAGE then scroll down and select FILE ASSOCIATINS
3. In file assotiations tick the AIF box, then select ok and exit coreplayer
4. Now open your selected file browser (i use x-plore) and goto this path C:\Data\ and locate the file called coreplayer.ext .
5. Now select optins and edit the coreplayer.ext file, at the top you will see <handler ext=”aif” mime=”.
6. Now we need to edit the ext=”aif” and change it to ext=”rar” then save and exit the file browser
7. Open the default browser and locate a .rar file to download
8. Next click on the .rar file to begin download, the download details will open and you will see the download details. On the download details popup it says Hide on the right hand side, you need to select this before the download has finished
9. Once the file has downloaded a popup opens asking to Open the file or save it for Later, select later.
10. Now in the browser options select Downloads, the downloaded files will then show with the .rar file showing as complete
11. Select options and then you have 3 choices, select save and then select your save location.
12. The file will save to the path you choose, then to open it you need to launch an app that supports that file (x-plore opens .rar files).
NOTE: The .rar extension was used as a quide, this will work with ANY file, you just need to follow this quide and use another extesion instead of .rar.
If you do not select the Hide option as shown at point 8 the file will still download but upon download coreplayer will open and try to read the file and fail (just exit coreplayer). If this happens you need to download again as shown above or use your file browser and goto C:\System\dmgr and look in the folders to find the file to move it or open
If you do the coreplayer trick and find it hard to download small files do this, after editing the coreplayer.ext file download y-tasks from Drjukka.com, you need the y-task main app and the file types plugin and the mainserver part (needs signing though), install all 3 parts then open y-tasks in the menu then file types, next scroll down and find application/vnc.coreplayer, set it to open with zip manager, exit Y-tasks, now when you download a .rar file you do not have to select hide like before. Upon download zip manager opens and a pop up asks you if you want to open or copy, select copy and save the rar file, if you select open zip manager gives an error and closes, once copied open the rar file from x-plore, easy as 1, 2, 3 hope this helps!
Once again top work Biggzy, we’ll finally forget the file not supported error!

You can also try the following info/apps for changing user-agent (not sure if this'll work):

This has been discussed before, plus as you said there's already a thread opened for this; no need to open a new one, so...
Threads merged!

Interesting. My 5800 default browser downloads any extension anyway. Is this only the 5800 that allows it??
