View Full Version : This is how to Increase n82 screen brightness(HACKED PHONES ONLY!!)
lifenexus 12th July 2008, 17:58 Ive found this way on how to increase n82's screen brightness. It works. i found it somewhere on the internet. I have no idea who created it. but thanks to him.
It requires a hacked phone. On how to hack your phone:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]
How to increase brightness:-
1. Copy the attached file(10200c8c.txt) to ur phone.
2. Move this file to c:\private\10202be9\
2. If you find a 10200c8c.cre file in C:\Private\10202be9\Persists\, then delete it.
4. Restart.
If you need to lower the brightness, the only way is to delete 10200c8c.txt from C:\Private\10202be9\ and 10200c8c.cre from C:\Private\10202be9\Persists\
If any help required on hacking or anything about n82, please feel free to ask. This is my first post.
Thanks,
Aston
(I've also posted this on another forum, so pls dont complain that i have copied it)
I've posted this image(not taken by me) to show that the phone REACHES THE MAXIMUM BRIGHTNESS IT IS DESIGNED FOR AND THAT NOKIA LOWERED IT TO INCREASE BATTERY LIFE. its gets as bright as nokia n95 8gb. IT WILL NOT BURN YOUR PHONE DOWN AS THE SOFTWARE IN THE PHONE WONT LET MORE CURRENT FLOW THROUGH THE LED'S. IT HAS A LIMIT AND ULL NOTICE THE PHONE GETTING THAT BRIGHT WHEN YOU GET A CALL!!!

panosz75 14th July 2008, 17:42 Does it really work on N82??? Has anyone tested it??? I tried to do this, but every time I restart my phone I go into folder C:\Private\10202be9\ and the file 10200c8c.txt gets deleted, by the OS maybe. I put it again, then I restart again, then it's not there again.
I deleted the file 10200c8c.cre in folder C:\Private\10202be9\Persists\
What may be the reason for this??? :?
sockenbueg 14th July 2008, 18:13 ... mabye you must make the file read-only with x-plore? Sorry - I've got no N82 to test it.

worked for me.
this is what i did.
i hacked my phone, turned caps off, started x-plore, copied the files like i mentioned and restarted. and my screen is brighter. ill try to get a screenshot of before and after if i get time.
By the way what firmware are u using? and did u have platform security off?
i used secman and just copied the files and thats is when i restarted, the screen was brighter but i cannot lower the brightness ulness i delete the file and restart again. and im using fimware 20.0.62
lifenexus 14th July 2008, 23:58 could u pls tell me that what is the difference b/w ROMpatcher method of hacking and BiNPDA method of hacking(secman)
and how could i sign "SignSis V1.03"
pls help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
its the same. i mean both will let u see the system files. but i prefer having secman as the interface is nice. but thats just me. just try the Drakkarious Hack method i posted as a link in the post(download the first attachment 2.01 and not the beta, well if the first one still dosent view sys files try second but ull have to ans yes to a lot of menus). if u need any help pls feel free to ask ill give u a step by step procedure.
and as for signsis:
first are u using the leftup's certificate or ur certificate?
if ur using ur own then just select the first option to choose a sis file and then the second to select .key file and the third to select the .cer file and enter password to key file if any. then select options and select sign not theself sign but just "sign".
again if u need ill give u a more detailed procedure.
edit:- sorry, u wanted to sign "signsis" or sing using signsis?

tell me how it effects battery. my case- 40 mins gps, 30 mins wi-fi, 25 mins calls, 20 mins gaming and some more time of phone usuage. got me two bars down. so i decided to kill it by watching a movie.(1 hr 32 mins) and it got me down to one bar but never shows low battery. but it was 3.15 in the morning so i had no time to test and i decided to sleep.
lifenexus 15th July 2008, 17:48 Thanks yaar working superb on my n82

yes.
have u tried sygic mcguider? if so ull see that the screen gets that bright or when u receive a call ur screen gets brighter; have u noticed? and with this it will be that bright always. and no harm to ur phone. guaranteed!!!!!!!!!!! i have seen two movies non stop.(no low battery warning) that is 3hrs 15 mins(avi). the h264 is better quality but more battery for decoding.

Not too sure about that bro. You said it's brighter than 'maximum' setting. Overclocked brightness may cause damage to the screen. It wasn't meant to handle over 'maximum' ... as with any device.
Just my 2 cents :ashamed:

no, its not overbright. n82 had a level of brightness that nokia reduced in the newer firmwares. just wait till u get a call in ur phone an ull see the brightness. or just reboot ur phone and for a while its brighter. nokia reduced the brightness to save battery. the reason being that n82 is a comparison to n78 which has a bigger battery so nokia is trying to get more juice out of the n82's battery. its not gonna harm ur phone as the phone IS that bright. but its brightness was reduced. also try to find and n82 with a very old firmware and ull notice. this just reached the max settings its designed for not more than that. it gets as bright at n95 8gb and not one candela more. ill post a screen shot(not taken by me)

Yup it works m8! And i think u hv rigth about Nokia reduced LED brightness. Nokia tries to make symbian phones battery life longer, coz 1 or 2 days middle-using phone is very short time.
Anyway thanks lifenexus! And i rep u up m8!

the morecaps even works now in v30. i gave xplore the all file capabilities and it works. but as usual even with active file, u cant edit the sys and resource directory. but u can modify private. if u need help on more caps, ask. xplore is better than active file and any other file browser.

chronorec 5th February 2009, 12:36 :thanks:working well on my n82 v31, it's suddenly so bright now:confused:
the Light control app doesn't seem to work well on my n82 though, the brightness seems to kinda flucuates in between key presses so I'm sticking with this method for now
shahrukh 5th February 2009, 23:13 does it work on N78 also??
Mr G 26th February 2009, 11:58 I had this working fine on v.20 with the Drakkarious hack, now on v.31 hacked via HelloOX and this doesn't work now.

vained 4th April 2009, 06:53 i have to say its a good mod..but i have noticed that when you used this it drains your battery much faster..like 30%,thats why its lights were minimized in the new firmwares to save battery..hopew this helps

fraseyboy 26th September 2009, 12:16 Is there a way to make it brighter than it is currently but not as bright as maximum brightness? So we can get a tradeoff between battery life and screen brightness?
azeemiqbal 24th October 2009, 17:32 nice man keep it up
madbrainx 26th October 2009, 21:40 The 2 last lines seem to define brightness range of n82's light sensor. Both values need to end with decimal number 9 or the light sensor won't work. I've tried to increase "0x4 int 99" value to 199, but my n82 became unresponsive after restarting it. I had to erase the file to make it work fine again. However if I change the "0x5 int 19" value to 9 or 29 it keeps working ok and the n82's light sensor seem to have an increased range with 9 and decreased with 29. But how to increase the range even more if we can't increase the first value (99)? Will it accept negative values? .. like -1 or -9 in the last line? Maybe someone with more knowledge should investigate this behavior further.
HarleyTSI 31st October 2009, 19:55 Does it work on N95-1?

Interesting find.
ALSO, after around ~2.5 months of increased brightness usage, today, my phone's battery only lasted around 5 hours, of which 40 min of internet browsing and the rest just sitting idle. It's acting very weird, like it's losing power from the battery very very fast, and it takes a LOT of time to charge. The battery and the phone are new, my phone was bought 4 months ago.
Did other users experience this?
saxena1 9th December 2009, 07:28 Can it work with N79? After upgradeing firmware brightness (at max. setting) looking dull.any one help me.thanks.
h_k_v2000 10th February 2010, 13:42 The 2 last lines seem to define brightness range of n82's light sensor.
Anything greater than 99 in the second last line makes my phone act funny, like some applications work, some don't, boot failures, system errors and unexpected restarts.
And anything other than 2 (even negative values) in the last line, and the hack won't work.
This higher than maximum brightness is only needed in limited conditions, like watching movies or playing games. There's no reason for the screen to be that frickin' bright all the time. Only solution now however is to rename the file and restart the phone which I'd be definitely willing to live without if the light sensor worked as well.
Maybe the original poster or someone else could shine some light (pun intended :D) on this if he knows how the hack actually works.

fabbriche 17th April 2010, 00:06 I've found an easiest way of adjusting N82's screen brightness. If you have another S60v3 phone that has no screen brightness limit, set your desired brightness level on that phone, then Bluetooth the 10200c8c.cre of that phone to N82 and copy to c:/private/10202be9/persists. For this, I use the 10200c8c.cre of my other phone, N91. I set the brightness level to not too bright and not too dim, just the normal brightness level. And it's working fine on my N82,
athar1236126 31st January 2012, 08:00 Gud job man. you are a life saver. I also like to decrease light by 1 level. How?
