Brothers In Arms is a 3D shooter set in World War Two Europe and North Africa. As well as travelling on foot, the player can use a variety of vehicles including a Sherman tank.

Those of you expecting the same innovations as you would find on Halo (on the XBox or PC) might be in for a disappointment. But that's a good thing, because the N-Gage platform needs a simpler control system. There's an argument that modern first person shooters on consoles can be insanely complex, with two analogue sticks needed just to move you around and look, then all the buttons hanging off and used in combinations that are more complicated than a shadow puppet of the Golden Gate Bridge.
What you have in Brothers in Arms is a simple control set. Left/Right/Forward/Backward on the cursor, sidestepping with a pair of number keys, and hitting ‘0' to aim your rifle by peering down the barrel - being World War Two, there are no telescopic sights or laser guided bullets. You want a better view, you have to get closer.
And here's where Brothers in Arms makes best use of the Nseries platform, because the graphics are about as good as you can make them on a QVGA screen, with the technology available. You have to remember that this is on a mobile phone, with limited power and processor cycles, so no putting it next to an HD game on your 42 inch plasma TV; take that into consideration and the graphics here are impressive. I'm not going to say they're jaw dropping, amazing, or the best on a mobile platform, mainly because the look of the game seems very reminiscent of Ashen on the original N-Gage and N-Gage QD. What I will say is that everything is clear and understandable, you can tell buildings, tanks, terrains, friend or foe apart easily.

But here's the thing about the graphics on a small screen, and here's where putting a shooter on the N-Gage is a risky move. While there is an auto-aiming component when you run around the map, you can also stop and go for more precise aimed shots. Trying to do a decent head shot from more than about 10 meters (according to the in game rangefinder) in this way is a matter of pixel perfect precision. Tiny taps on the direction pad while in the aim mode are needed to get right onto the head, which may or may or may not be moving.
I'd also love to say that this slows the game down, but in all honesty it doesn't. Like the heavily laden soldier that you are, Brothers in Arms feels sluggish. Now by that I don't mean it has a poor frame rate or that the graphics and sound are a few moments behind any action you make. No what I mean is that the gameplay itself is slow.

This is meant to be combat, fast, furious, with strategic moving around terrain, taking cover as needed, circling around the enemy to shoot them in the back before they see you.
Brothers in Arms provides absolutely none of that. You run at one speed and there's no sense of urgency. When you're being shot at and running for cover, things happen at the same speed as when you're ambling down a country lane at the end of a level. There's no adrenaline rush as the bullets start flying overhead.
Oh, and forget about circling round the enemy. You map be in a mapped out area, but this is a linear route of gameplay. You're travelling down a fixed corridor created by the programmers, with no significant branching away or choice of direction possible. Sure, you have blocks of trees and boulders for cover, but do you get a choice between a frontal assault, or edging along a river bank? Nope. Straight ahead and fight, soldier!
Also, for a mobile game, the save game mechanism seems inadequate. You can jump to any level you have passed, and to the subsequent unpassed level, or return to an intermediate checkpoint you pass in the current level. It would be nice to be able to save at any point. The whole point of a mobile game is that you are mobile - pausing and backgrounding the app isn't enough in my book.
The online options is... a high score table. Which is... a nice idea. Next!

My one worry with Brothers in Arms is that it's supremely easy for people to compare this to other console versions, such as that on Sony's Playstation Portable. (fx: Ewan leans over to his shelf and picks up his PSP and Brothers in Arms). I've argued before that Nokia need to be very careful with any situation where they end up going head to head in comparison to other platforms. They need to maximize their own platform strengths, not be placed alongside the strengths of another platform.
But forget all that, because Brothers in Arms actually works well on a mobile. Sure it's not a deep game, with tactics or thinking required. Neither is it a complex 3D shooter with sculpted landscapes, deformable terrain, and massive areas to explore. It's effectively a shoot-em up. Dodge the occasional bullet, go where you need to, press fire and use up your infinite supply of ammo. It plays well, it looks good, and you do get a feeling of wanting to finish just one more level.
Most of all, it's fun! And that's probably the most important thing, despite my other reservations above.

mm i dont understand it didnt ask me for an activation code during the sound negotiation, i have opened it 2 times and nothing also i can connect to arena normally (i didnt press cancel first) it shows me the points of others players without asking me for a registration code. thank you for the game farha.It works great on my n95-3 with firm 20.x..

Interestingly, on my N73-1 ME it just runs without asking for any activation code. And after a fresh bootup, the game runs perfectly without any lag whatsoever. The game sucks though.

Yeah, same thing on my N73. I thought it's due to low memory, but with N81 having glitchy (in my words, pixellated) graphics, I think I am not lonely :wink:. Not a bad thing though, I'm not interested in this game anyway.

Other Games are smaller in size and requires less acceleration rather than this one..
Make sure you don't have any processes running in background, i prefer Activefile to check the Processes and Tasks.

It's a good game but i'm still not impressed with the games on n-gage 2.0 they have hardly moved on from original n-gage

Did you have the trial version installed before ? If so, remove it and then install the BiNPDA file. Hopefully that helps.

this is RAM issue. Tested with many other apps running in background on my N95-8G. you have to free more RAM to avoid sound lag. :good2:

lag on sound seems to be ram issue. i am afraid of ngage games to come.and maybe this is the reason that the rest ngage games delay.maybe not all so said compatible mobiles will be fully compatible due to lack of ram memory.how stupid of nokia.see n95-8gb and n95-1 difference in ram memory..

Yep, I don't think that RAM is the problem. I have N82 with 86 Megs of free RAM without any background process. I even tried the memory clean function from Jbak Taskman and sound still lag awfully.

For those who does not experience sound lag, do you install the game on phone memory or memory card? Or does the ngage application version differs?

i got game not found on mem card(twice) then it just allows me to delete it. i installed by metro trk and by extracted .ngage file.

unable to install game for me N95-1..any ideas??

this is RAM issue. Tested with many other apps running in background on my N95-8G. you have to free more RAM to avoid sound lag. :good2:

Stop startup thirdparty applications

You can stop the thirdparty apps from startup when booting up your phone.

Go to c/private/100059c9/start.dat with a file manager and make this change:rename the file as start.dat.txt

Exactly as i write do not delete nothing just add .txt (start.dat.txt)!

Now reboote your phone and thats it.all thirdparty apps dont startup.and also you can go back to default situation any time by renaming back to default.what did you get?faster startup and more ram from bootup.

you should install the sis version and remove it...then you can install the ngage game...:wave:

There's None Forcing you to Download and install this game,
If you like the .sis version stick to it.. And check out if you get same lagging thing in Trial version too..

Confirmed! Works also with N82 (Black Edition) In Phonememory "c:" installed, the Sound works. But you need 46 MB free Memory in Phone to install!:hahaha2:

so if it works from phone memory ram issue is not problem.so whats it?and this may answer why it works ok on n95-8gb.not due to more ram memory but because 8gb memory is like hard disk so faster transfer of data?maybe..

wont install on n95, data corrupt delete now? had this prob with poker golf and sims, did a hard reset of fone and format mem card then they installed but now this wont install, never had a prob with any other ngage games, its happening cause i reinstalled all of my other apps and games after installing ngage and games, is there a fix for this problem as it took me a full day to reinstall all of my apps? really dont want to have to format fone again ! AARRGH!!

i don't like this game....it always seems the same....every version i play...nothing new added to the gameplay...Always run shoot hide run shoot hide...it gets boring after a while..

As i already said they don't really update the game...although I don't Know I would only expect some bug fixies.No graphic or gameplay changes...but that's only my opinion

Formating your Phone N Memory Card
Install Drakkious 2.0 hacks
then install n-gage by try4deepak
then install the game
N they will definetly work correctly if u have done every thing correct

uninstall the trial version, download the cracked version, install secman on your phone, run it and select "install root certificate" from options, copy the extracted .n-gage file on your phone on E:\n-gage, run N-Gage app and install the game, select "restore default" from options in secman, then play your game

But i had installed that root certificate before..... is it required to do it again???

no you don't need to do that one more time. Just uninstall trial and install cracked vers. :) Done, Enjoy the game :)

You must install root certificate every time you want install a cracked game, and also you must restore default after installed it.

hmm it shows me "update error" i uninstalled the whole n-gage installed it again and again "update error" but when i installed the games and tried Brothers in arms it stared withouth problems so thanks :) it seems to work withouth this update after all :P

Don't install in your phone memory. new n-gage apps will work fine with any games. if u install in phone memory, u will not be able to play ONE. ONE game using high RAM. so, don't install anything in phone memory.

I think this version 1.2.3 has too bug. In "Normandy Silenced Skies" at 3 Rockets that you must destroy them. I can destroy only 2 Rockets, seem impossible to destroy the third Rocket. I cann't reach it if all Panzers still remain, when I destroy all Panzers then can reach the third Rocket, but it still stands even I use bazooka aim and fire it, . I play this stage several times with boring. Waiting for version 2.0 or already improved ver.

guys the sound lags has been fixed on my n95-1 when i installed it on phone but sometimes during gameplay it gets unnoticeable little slow like the running of soldiers is this due to n95-1 or it runs better on n82 etc

I heard even N82 and N95 8GB has sound lags

i have some lags in the gameplay with my n95-1 and BIA, the games without sound is ok, with sound is terrible...tried reinstalling it and playing right after a reboot..is it normal?
