It says it's for NT compatible units because some older Garmin devices do not support NT maps. Garmin Mobile XT does not have this problem.

I installed Garmin XT in my Nokia E71, I also have a Garmin Nuvi 250W, I hooked up the Garmin Nuvi to the PC copied the image file from the GPS to the PC then put the image file on the Micro SD card put put the card it in the Nokia turned on Garmin XT and there you go worked, so anyone one who has a friend borrow their Garmin GPS and copy the image file to your cell should work it did for me.

Yes, I know that but in Mapsource (Windows XP) there is no place to enter the generated serial number, the only option is to activate online. Could it be the Mapsource update changed the registration process?

aristotelhs2060

search where UnlockWizard.exe is installed.open it and enter the serial number you have created.this is too weird if this really happens on xp.

makbil

Thanks, that worked. Apparently the default Mapsource action with the latest version is to register first and unlock later. Rep+

Awesome.... I downloaded, extracted according to instruction and installed it. It's working 100%.

I have a little question here:
How do I install two maps at same time on my Nokia E71 smartphone? I already have Europe map installed and I don't want to delete it.

Thank you very much aristotelhs2060 for this indispensable post and keep up the good job.

just rename the map and unl u have already to one of these names

gmapbmap
gmapprom
gmapsupp
gmapsup2

gmapbmap is usually the basemap (if u have already in garmin folder leave it there)
i am not sure what name gives mapsource to the map u transfer to gps device (it must be gmapsupp or gmapprom).so check it and give the map u have already an other of these names).so u can have different maps in garmin each one with one of these names.thus u can combine maps to one.but this is an other story and is a little bit more expert.

Got a question -- when I installed it on my phone (Garmin Mobile XT), it only copied a 1Gb image file there, is that the whole NA in a 1Gb file?
From my TomTom days I remember a huge difference in number of included POIs between the same version NA map of 1GB and 1.4GB.
I'm concerned I didn't copy something right and surprised that out of the 3Gb ISO-file just 1Gb of data got to the sd-card. Could you guys check the filesize of the resulting gmapsupp.img file on your devices?

Another thing is that I've had to enter the 25-characters unlock code when running the MSI so I ended up having an IMG-file which does not requre the unl file (at least not on the same device).
If I get another phone and just insert this sd-card there or if I want to copy the actual img-file to another phone -- will I be able to just generate the unl-file and use this map, or would I absolutely have to go thru the same 30 minutes long unpacking/packing/installing process?

thanks!

for the file size it is obvious that a big part of mapsource version size is dedicated to installing system files.thus this is multilanguage so system files require bigger size.the clear map data is about 1gb of size.

as for the unlock i had the same question long ago.i always used my device id to generate 25 digits unlock code anyway but never tried to see if it will be unlocked on my device without the unl file.so u say it remains unlocked using this device without the unl file?

but sure generating a unl file for a different device id and placing it in gamrin folder it will be of course unlocked too on this device

First of all, thanks for reply regarding filesize. Yes, after I "unlocked" the map during the MSI-installation, I've used it with the UNL-file from a different map and it worked.

but sure generating a unl file for a different device id and placing it in gamrin folder it will be of course unlocked too on this device

Sure as in "I've tried it and it worked" or as in "it surely should work"? :)

Thanks!

Hi everyone! I have downloaded a City Navigator® North America NT2009 map. However, it is an img file. With the this file comes an unlock.txt. It says the map is already unlocked via garminunlocker.exe. I copied it on my N95-4 8GB (waited 4 20mins), in the e:/garmin directory and started the unlocked garmin xt v5 application. I clicked on the browse map, and it says no map.

Then what I did, just to be sure, I made a gmapsupp.unl file from the keygen, and placed it also on the e:/garmin directory. Then I opened again the garmin xt application on my phone, but its says no map still. But when I go to Tools>manage my data>map sets and selected the detailed maps E:/GARMIN option, it says City Navigator North America NT 2009. Please help me how to get my maps viewable on the phone.
What must I do? Thanks for your help everyone!!

Edit: Oh, I guess I made it working now. What happened was, since I have no gps signal, the map was not yet detected. I went upstairs just now, to check if it works. When the garmin xt found a gps signal, suddenly, it displayed the maps, and the place where i am in right now. Nice. Sorry for the post. Please moderators, delete it. Thanks!

In the order to use more than one map do you have to create UNL file for each map you are about to use and name it the same name just with UNL extension? This goes only if the map is locked and needs to be unlocked with an Map ID...

Thanks!
