good evening everyone
I was browsing the ipmart forums and getting excited at every new version of navigon that might work for me, or at every new map release of xxx navigation software. In factm we all get very excited about these little releases, and about those small companies that brought us navigation.
But these days are sealed to cease. I have finally seen my childhood dream becoming true. It is all about the new enkin software. Go to vvv.enkin.net for a brief demo of it. (And try to ignore its parents - those 2 ***ish geeks :D). I bet many of you GPS fans were dreaming about this too. Well, here it is now !
But now, on a more serious level of approach, why the heck has not this been done before ? Technology was here all along. It could have been done for at least 5-6 years. All it takes is
- handheld with internet acces
- built-in camera
- googlemaps / any other map web provider
- built-in magetic compass :?: - ok dunno about this one for certain. Might have not been arround 5 years ago.
Accelerometer is just optional. My answer - because coders were just to lazy to work with a web served map. They did not have the framework for this, and writing it from scratch would have costed them some 2 - 3 weeks. Oh, there are small individual, projects approaching this area, mgmaps being by far the most popular. However, those kind of applications just recently have started to evlolve into their full potential.
Care to share a point of view ?
