i have some questions that curios to know, i hope you guys could share me a little knowledge. :)
1.what the actually the different between s40v1 , s40v2, s40v3, s40v5, and s40v6 ? in the of filesize maybe?
as i read in the forum, some says that s40v1 limit the game/apps filesize to 64k and s40v2 to 166kb,
is that right?
how about filesize limit of s40v3, v5, and the latest one v6?
2.does the the game/apps backward compatible?
i mean , example at the same display game at 240x320, for nokia 5300
(s40v3 , MIDP 2.0 , CLDC 1.1),
can it compatible with Nokia 6500 classic (240x320, s40v5 , MIDP 2.1, CLDC 1.1) , is the same compatible?
and if 5300 game playable on 6500 classic, how about vise versa ( in this case a origianal game for 6500 classic, is it playable on nokia 5300?
thanks a lot friends

thanks, i've read it, it seems it's backward compatible,
example s40v5 (6500c) can run any s40v3 game (6280),
s40v3 can run s40v5

Not any. Some games are designed especially for concrete platform.
s40v3 can run s40v5
This is not right at all, S40v5 supports Java MIDP 2.1, which will not work on S40v3 because of S40v3 is not supporting that standart. Even I have a game in MIDP 2.1 which works on 5310 and doesn't work on 6233 and others.
But many developers make one version for all platforms, this is easy but... Nobody can guarantee that it will work on all them.

Митяй ==> thanks you
so the bottom line, i think the newer java is backward compatible with the previous version , such as s40v5 can play with s40v3 with the same screen display,
but s40v3 won't 100% compatible with s40v5's game..due to the different java platform (2.1 and 2.0)
is it?

That's exactly correct agill. :)

 Absolutely on the contrary. S40v5 supports MIDP 2.1 and them will not work on S40v3

What's the big difference between MIDP 2 and MIDP 2.1 that destroys compatiblity of S40v5/v6 games with s40v3?

My Nokia 2600 classic (s40v5) in the specs it says that the maximum java application size it can handle is 256kb.
My question is I have upgraded from an old 128x128 s40v1. Will all the old games I have downloaded for this v1 work fine on my new 128x160 s40v5 or will they look streatched because of the different resolution on the new v5 phone?
Митяй

Yeah they will not fit fullscreen, just 128x128 of 128x160 pixels :) You have to redownload them with new versions
