View Full Version : Go 910 upgrade to Navcore 8 Suggestions

Ok, I have my boss' GO 910 and he wants me to update it to the latest maps and Navcore, but I want some opinions first.

1. What is the best Navcore for the 910? I am leaning towards 8.051, but would like input from those who have ugraded theirs.

2. Is it necessary to update the bootloader? I am running 5.5022 on my One XL but there is no SD slot on a 910 so is there really any reason to update it?

3. What's the best way to get TTS? SHould I just copy the LoquendoTTS folder from the device before I wipe it? Or, should I stick with the Loquendo folders that I find on here?

4. What functions are known problems when running navcore 8 on the 910? I have seen several posts from people complaining that "such and such" doesnt work, but other posts where someone claims complete success.

5. Is ASR possible on the 910 by simply adding TTUser's ASR folder to the device? Do I need to add any kind of device emulation to make this or other features work?

6. Is there any reason to use Device Emulation? I have to use it on my One to get ALG and IQ Routes, etc... will I need to do something similiar on the 910?

Feel free to flame me for a stupid question if you would like, I have thick skin. I have searched for these answers on the forum, but found no definitive answer specific to this device. I would greatly appreciate reccomendations from other 910 owners. Thanks in advance to everyone who takes time to read this and respond.

:thanks:

The following is my personal opinion. It could be another solution and another approach. :)

1. I prefer 8.051
2. I believe NOT. My is working perfect with 4.86
3. You have to copy everything that you have on your TT and keep it in safe place. In my case TTS works when I copied old voices in new folder. You should also copy some more files from your old TTS in new one.
4. No problems in my case.
5. Yes it works perfect. You don’t need to add any kind of device emulation to make this or other features work. But pay attention that your map should have CSPEECH files. Also pay attention that ASR folder should be in the root of TT 910. (For example H\ASR – correct. H:\A_S_R\ASR – NOT coorect).
6. I did not find any reason to use Device Emulation on 910. ALG and IQ Routes, etc...work without it.

General advice:
1. Use only special ttsystem archive for x10. In this archive the folder noFlash should exist. You HAVE to copy this folder to TT910.
2. Before installing Navcore 8 on 910 delete everything from HD. Start from absolutely clean HD. Sure, as I already mentioned you HAVE to copy everything before deleting.

Outstanding info Alex. Thanks for the input. I had already planned on copying the entire drive to my PC to backup. I am planning on using the latest 8.10 maps of North America and W and E Europe. Are there any functions you know of that dont work on your upgraded 910?

However I did not try TMC and Bluetooth.

Bluetooth works on my 710 and I use traffic via gprs not using TMC. Got it out of mothballs to check

Alex20047 has done a great job in addressing your questions.
I will only offer small additional help as such concise answers have been given.

4. As stated at top of v8 SE navcore pages, old Remote Control is non functioning.
New Bluetooth Remote works & therefore required if you wish to have this feature available.
All else is working.

There are several navcores to choose from, and while features are mainly the same, there are some icon/colour/function differences.
For this, the Switches are used.

ie.. On my 910, I have the BTon file on root & only x20/x30 switches in SDKRegistry folder ( rest are surplus to.. )
I prefer the blue of x20 to the orange of x30 menu colour scheme.
So as well as function, you can also consider aesthetic changes as well.

Thank you! Your addition is really important (could add as usual :) ). I forgot about the remote

Sorry, but I don't understand your question.
What is your problem?
You copied ttsystem which is not for x10 devices? If so just copy again a correct ttsystem and copy a folder noFlash to your TT.

Thanks for all the help guys. I will plan on using 8.051 as the navcore and will likely stay away from the emulation as my Boss is not that tech savy and it would just confuse him. I dont think he even has the remote for the device, if he doesnt, he isnt using it. I is most concerned with updated maps and ASR. All the additional features are just bonus to him.

If anyone else has any thoughts or ideas to add, please let me know. Thanks to everyone who has posted thus far. Very informative!

if you not like to use a Emu. mean=run it as the original Device, then need you to create a file model.txt in root and write the word "ori" in the File, only then run it as original Device and not in a "other Device Emu."

Thanks for that info TTUser, I was unaware that was a necessary step. I thought that I could simply, not install the SDK switch package. Thanks again, especially for all your hard work to make all this possible!

I was unaware that was a necessary step. I thought that I could simply, not install the SDK switch package.

It is NOT a necessary step. With this step you could have menu as it was on TT910 with 7.162. Without this step you will have menu and others as at 930 ;)

Do you have now Flash folder at your TT?
What ttsystem did you copied to your TT (for x10, one for all, or any other)?
Did you install Navcore 8 on clean HD of TT910?

Hi
The latest navcore 8 that will run on the go910 is 8.011 (9373) to date.(october 2008)
Check out Lamboman post for 500,700,910 he has done all the work for you with a complete package, all you need are the latest maps (v810) to complete the package.
Many of us are using this software and all reporting that it works without any problems apart from remote control which will need to be replaced with bluetooth controller from the 720 series.

Thanks for clarifying that. I will likely stick with the x30 appearance as it isnt much different than the x10 appearance. I just didnt want to install all the extra buttons that come with the SDK pack. My boss would likely mess it up if they were present. Thanks again for all your help.

The latest navcore 8 that will run on the go910 is 8.011 (9373) to date.(october 2008)
Incorrect!
I have 8.051 running on 710 & 910.
Just put 8.201 on 910 to test again.
Awful.
8.051 runs fine on 710 so chose to load on it my 910 instead of std 8.010 from before.
Works great.

yDG, why is there a different GPS ver on the two different pictures? Is that something that is built in to the Navcore version or is it something you updated?

yDdraigGoch
27th October 2008, 15:02
Have no idea where in the nc does GPS reside.

Easy answer = 2 different machines - 1 for Work & 1 as Spare/Donor, just in case.

Apols if this qualifies as cheating but I don't like to mess with my 'Work' 910 if I can help it.
Figured so long as they were running on a 910, that'd do.
Seems you'd prefer different NC's on exact same 910.
Amended previous post.
Would you like to see 8051 on the 'donor' 910 ( currently running GPS v1.20 )?

nofences
27th October 2008, 21:33
Looks like you already tried it and the GPS ver is the same even with different Navcore software on it. I wonder if TTUser knows how or why they are different and if that is something we can update? Thanks for giving that a shot yDG.

It's a bit wierd, this 8201.
Made my feelings known several times now...horrible, yukky nc.
Noticed that on both 910's voice command does not recognise input.
Lights up and stuff, bars move with speech...just doesn't understand.

BTW, in case anyone asks...I know the rev number is constant as 040301
check the pic below.... Home emu has a liking for this number since way back.

I think it's becuse I have 8010 in ttgo file and am renaming 8051 & 8201 dll file, b4 placing them in Home 8010 folder.
TThome thinks its 8010 dll and applies appropriate rev number.....quite bizarre.

DIdn't succeed in getting maps recognised if using 8051 & 8201 dll folders respectively, hence this solution.

Thanks for the quick response. After reading several posts condemning 8.201 on a 910, I had decided against it. I will stick with 8.051 since it appears to be very stable. I was going to have my boss copy the patched DLL file for 8.051 to the correct folder so he could run it in TomTom Home. That should be all he needs to do to make everything work.

On a side note, Home Emu also posts a bogus boot firmware everytime. So the info in the emulation mode is not reliable as to what is on the device.

Ok, another question. Will the LoquendoTTS files curently on the device work under Navcore 8.051 without any emulation settings? Also if I use the LoquendoTTS files, can I still get ALG, ASR, and IQ Routes? I know this isnt possible on my ONE XL, but is it possible on the 910?

Ok, got everything loaded up succesfully, but I am having a bit of trouble with ASR. I can always speak the city name ok, but sometimes after speaking the street name the device stops responding to voice commands. Any suggestions. Everything else seems to be working perfectly.

We read in this thread I want to understand that you can install the navcore 8201 at our GO910 devices I am Spanish and I do translations from English to google are not entirely correct but I am interested if you have to either do a favor to explain in detail as you can make use of this navcore the steps to follow from beginning to end, from the formateao device to what to charge from zero to the end and if there are things that do not work etc ... Thank you all and thanks for your work.

I all attempts to update the version I made 8.201que finished with locking device on a black screen of the start of it.

I know that yDG did nothing special to install 8201. He did just typical installation of new Navcore. It looks that he has different version of TT910. Couldn't say younger or older then ours.

Nobody more reports a success with 8201 at 910.

So could you tell us what bootloader version do you have at your 910?

About this I have tried to update the navcore and bloqudispositivo black screen at the beginning, I've reformatted and loaded with tomtomHOME the navcore and then I tried to charge me again navcore and does exactly the same.

Hey cobra4x4, I have the same setup on my 910 and it all works except that when I first go into Home it complains about the wrong version being on my 910.

It all works from there (map updates, operate my GO etc) so its just an annoyance. Do you get the same thing?

I believe it is related to the contents of ttgo.bif and .bak. My .bif has the actual versions i.e.

ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8300
ApplicationVersion=9732

and my .bak has the latest version available for the 910 i.e.

ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=7903
ApplicationVersion=9183

How does this compare with your setup?

cobra4x4

Yes same issue here, but its a minor annoyance.

I tried putting the 7903 info into the ttgo.bif file and then home worked fine, but home put the proper 7903 files onto my unit which of coarse insn't what I wanted.

I tried the latest Media Center from mobilnova which works awesome (for 2 minutes) because there is no crack for it yet

Hello all,

I am running 8.320.9901 so far without problems.

GO910 - NAVCORE = 8.320.9901 - Boot = 5.5106 - GPS = V1.20

1. I don't use Bluetooth

2. I don't use Buddies

3. Mapshare did update the 910 after I connected with TT Home (Ignore the Warning about Invalid Version)

4. I did get the QuickGPSFix

A few things I have noticed.

1. I don't get the option for IQ Routes anymore so I wonder if this is activated by default now.

2. I don't see the Icon for ALG (Advanced Lane Guidance) anymore. I'll take the TT for a spin later today and see if the ALG is also activated by default or does not exist.

Summary: So far So Good.

A *MAJOR* thanks to TTUser for his wonderful work and long may he continue.

Cheers,

* Can you confirm that 8.204 is good with bluetooth, buddies, weather and quickgpsfix?

I am sure 8.300 and 8.320 wont work with Go 910 Weather, quickgpsfix and buddies so if you dont care about that go with 8.300 since 8.320 crashes a lot when connected to home and has no advantage over 8.300 for Go X10.

After 2 days of hard work on TOMTOM GO 910 My conclusion is as follow:

GO with Navcore:

8.002 and Map 8.10 if you want stable system and EVERYTHING working

8.300 and map 8.15 if you don't care about buddies, weather nor quickgpsfix

8.070 and map 8.10 if you have a truck and do not care about buddies, weather nor quickgpsfix

anything above 8.002 wont let you get the most out of Go 910 due to buddies, weather, quickgpsfix, traffic and any of Tomtom services.

My version is now 8.002 with 810 map. there is no need for the newest map since mapshare will keep me uptodate till I change go 910 to x30. someone can close this post now.

Hi

Please go easy, my first post and a complete newbie regarding updating my TomTom GO 910.

Have been researching a bit lately and wonder if there is a current (ie; one of the latest ) Navcores out there 8.3** or something which with a suitable (again one of the latest) Western and Central Eiropean Maps will give me: -

Stability
IQ Routing
Advanced Lane Guidance
C Speech (whatever that is lol!)
No lag and allowing me to power down the unit completely and if possible allow the use of my remote with no resetting either if removed from the Docking device

Not interested in weather/buddies - but would like the other services if at all possible - maybe the post regarding what works with what could be updated, with regards to the latest 825 maps ?

Yes yes yes I know I want the lot with the latest and greatest without paying for it but I do appreciate that it is possible for my unit to emulate the x30 units with suitable software and the table doesn't show anything about the 825 maos currently available.

I have read that Navcore 8.300.9732 will work with W & CE Tomtom Map - 825_2157 with most of the above but it can suffer from the inability to power down, needs a reset id removed from the docking station and the remote does not work - not sure about C Speech as I don't understand what this is.

Can someone please advise me please if they have experience of my GO 910 device or learned from another user.

FYI my current Navcore is 7.903 using it's original W&CE Map v.650.1052

BTW what is a SE Navcore ?

A great forum by the way

TIA

TIA

Wow ! Thanks for that - I will download all and follow your instructions perfectly.

I could look at the "difference" thread for differences between this Navcore and that of the 8.300 but could you say what these 2 will do and won't do precisely, given your experience - it will help me decide which Navcore to install. Presumably installation is the same in both cases ?

Cheers,

Me, Myself and I

is there a post or tutorial anywhere that can hold my hand through the process of installing 8.320.9901

I use my remote all the time, especially when driving.
WHich navcore would you recomend for my GO910 that keeps the remote?

harleyx,

You can buy a BT remote, it works with the latest navcores (8.204, 8.412)

For GO910 : 8.204 rev1.5 :

Grard, Ive followed the instructions to the letter (not to say I didnt make an error), but when I disconnect the unit, it restarts, and allI get is the screen with a flashing red X.a screwed too, because after backing the unit up, TTHome wont let me restore it...says it isnt supported

I found a way to re-load the 910 with the original programming...TThome wouldnt do it, so I cut & pasted from the backup file.
As the instructions did not seem to work for me, I had no choice...otherwise, the unit is a paper weight

I just got back to the (patched)original 7.903.....
Main reason was to be able to use the "old" remote..
Yes, I have run almost every navcore, but tts is no use for me (works only if you stay within the borders of your country)
I had ALG switched off, I like to see where I´m going.
I like the latest maps, TMC and the mp3 player on my 910, all the other snigsnag is not important...

Martin.

I have just updated my Go 910 to Navcore: 8.412 and Australia map 830.2352

Working:
Map updates
GPS Quickfix
Voice activation (gotta love this)
MP3 playing and volume control
speed cameras (from Australian map)

Not working
Operate Go from Tom Tom home
Bluetooth connection to phone (Nokia N95)

My thanks go to grard31 and everyone who has provided helpful posts to this site
