my pc restarts after 2 or 3 hours after i had upgraded my ram from 512 mb to 1 gb.... i thought that ram is not compatible so i tried 3 or 4 different company rams but same problem persists... pls help me out.....

Try only 1 RAM then observe.

If still the same, it might be your windows. Right click my computer properties, advance, startup recovery setting, untick automatically restart then ok.

If still the same, you might need to reinstall windows or problem on power supply.

i had windows vista runnig now & i also tried one ram but gives same prblm,
i also install windows 3 or 4 times 4 dis prblm but no progress at all,,

your pc is a whole ;
cpu , gpu , ram , chipset
everything works together

vista is a real recourse-eater

since your busy installing anyway ;
i'd say ;see how it runs on xp
if everything is fine then than stick w xp

but if you install xp, and if the problems are gone ,
that means your hardware is ok
in that case , its vista giving trouble

and about ram;
go to start
right-click computer ,than properties
if the amount of intalled ram is displayed than ram is ok

with 1.5GB vista should run normal

what did you do
did you reinstall?
changed ram?

it can be memory [ ram ] or driver

put back the original 512 module without the 1gb module and reboot

if the stop-screen is gone , you know its faulty ram

1.5 GB ram = minimum for vista alone
when using extra's you need even more ram

if you have any sort of large external disks [ usb , or memory-card ]
use it for 'ready-boost '

you need more ram
from the same type& speed as your original one
if you have 2 banks buy 2 x 1gb
if four buy four
brand usely doesnt matter , only type and speed

Basflt is right. If you want vista, then avoid the applications that gives an error to it. Rather than avoiding vista.

How about try download & install another vista other than you use? It might be because of your installation disk.

Clean ram metal contacts with rubber eraser. Plug firmly.

Reinstall windows & drivers alone. Do not install other software. Observe it for few weeks.

If it goes ok & you want to install total converter which you think gives the problem, try lower version of that.

i thought it is due to anti-virus,,, kaspersky
becoz when i upgraded my ram,, the same day i installed kaspersky,, earlier i had avg 8 free edition,,,,,
& when windows check solution online after pc restarts then it shows that your anti-virus had problem,,,,,,,,

I already told you that you must install only windows then observe maybe a week. Then install application one by one everyday to be sure whats software have conflict with your system.

When i checked the bios, it showed 2GB in Memory Bank 2 & nothing installed in Memory Bank 1(where i ve placed my original 512 ram)... So is it true that my system can be upgraded only to 2GB Ram only, or is it just the display?

on most systems this can be corrected in bios

i dont know details becouse all MoBo's are different [consults manual or manufacturer ]

it has something to do w "momory hole " in bios

[ i had similar on my asus MoBo ]

LOL Im not rude. What Im saying is instead of posting your query on someone's thread, create your own thread.

On your RAM, I guess its only limited to 2GB. Or try to plug them both then remove the 2GB then check the size to test your 512. Are you sure that they have the same speed /spec ? If not, surely they will not work the same time.

The 512 is the original Ram which came with the system.. Wen 512 alone is plugged it works fine.. When 2GB alone is plugged, it works fine too. But, wen both the rams are plugged in, it shows only the 2GB ram and shows like there is no 512 Ram in it..

What do you mean by 'same speed/spec' ? Both r DDR2 type only..

DDR2 compose of following types

PC4200 (533)
PC5300 (667)
PC6400 (800)


Make sure that both of your RAM are the same. Check what is written on you RAM.

My two Rams are:

Dynet: 2GB PC2-5300U-555

Hynix:512MB 1Rx8 PC2-4200U-444-12

I also tried these..

1. When wen 512 in Bank1 and 2GB in Bank2, it works.
2. When both are interchanged, it does not start..
3. 2GB alone in any Memory Bank works..
4. 512 in Bank1 works..
5. When 512 in Bank 2, it does not start..

Note that previously i was having 512 in Bank1 only.. for 1 year.. Can you explain these ???:???:

Since 512 doesnt work on bank 2, the 2 slots might have different speed requirement (still depends on board).

On #1 you mean both ram works at the same time & you have total of 2.5gb ram? I dont think so (lucky you are if yes). When 2 ram with different speed plugs together, only the higher speed will be detected. Worse, it may damage your ram or board. Sometimes even the same speed cant work properly.

On #1 only the 2GB is detected on Bank2.. Suppose if i get a 2GB Ram on PC2-4200U type, then will it work for 2.5GB?

5300 RAM is much faster than 4200 so dont change your 2GB ram unless if it will work along with your 512.

So I suggest you to bring your laptop to where you bought the 2GB RAM and ask them to test a 2gb 4200 with your 512. If it totals 2.5 then go for it :)

But if not, retain your 2gb 5300 RAM then keep your 512 as a spare :good2:

i was going through same problem but it was solved when i changed the slot.i have single 2gb module and i have only 2 slots for ram.when i changed the slot it never happened again.hope it will work.
