Gyrator Auto Screen Rotator with G Sensor

Here’s another one of my wonderfully simple applications. A screen rotator which uses the GSensor to detect the orientation of the device, and rotate the device screen accordingly.

It has a graphical configuration system for blacklisting/whitelisting applications where auto rotation should not be performed.
When run, it will sit and wait for the device to be rotated, then it will rotate the screen accordingly. Initially the display form opens up showing the current orientation, and a little image if you enable it in the options menu. The form can be either minimised, using the “X” button at the top, or it can be hidden to save memory, but it cannot be re-opened. The application can also be closed gracefully using the option in the menu.

Version History
New Version Features (2008.09.26.2):
This version adds keylock support using the Windows today screen method. New options have been added into the configuration page to enable you to select the new option. You can either have the device keylocked, or you can keylock the deivice and suspend it.

New Version Features (2008.10.03.0):
This version now includes the option to control what happens when there is no rule for an application, as well as enabling and disabling vibration for certain events.
Due to added checks for applciation rules, in some rare cases, performance may be affected, for example rotating when a video, or a program with high processor usage such as TomTom or iGo.

New Version Features (2008.10.13.0):
Gyrator 2 released, complete rebuild from the ground up. Now supports all incarnations of the HTC Diamond/HTC Diamond Pro (And a few other devices i’ve been told) for rotation and stylus events.
New features include… Alot of them. Check the Screenshots page for information of the new features, along with illustrations.

New Version Features (2008.10.14.1):
This update adds a few useful features to the event configuration screen. The ability to now use either the window class or window title for configuration makes it far easier to isolate a certain window, rather than all windows of a certain class. A new option has been added in the application list to access this feature. Learning for the title works the same as for the classes.
Other changes include the removal of the auto start shortcut in \windows\startup as it caused problems for sume users. I now use the HTC BootLauncher to launch Gyrator, although it does not seem to function on all devices. Please comment on your experiences with the comment on the forums.
I’ve also added a sound test button on the Sound tab, which simply plays the selected sound so you know what it sounds like prior to it being fired.

New Version Features (2008.10.14.2):
Corrected a bug in the Events Processing routine that caused the orientation rules to be ignored.
Added a few more rules into the application list.
Performance has also been improved by making the sound notifications play asynchronously, so as to not halt the rotation thread whist it plays.

Note:
Some devices have been modified by the service providers, and thus may not work with the GSensor library. These devices will not be able to perform auto rotation.

File Shred V2.3

Worried you have documents on your CF/SD card others might be able to recover if you delete them? Selling your PDA and want your documents securely removed? When you delete a file, the file is still there. The pointers to the file are what are removed. These files can be easily recovered.

FileShredPPC Takes care of that. Once the files have been shredded, they won’t be able to get them back without extreme measures.
How Does it work? It first opens the file, and overwrites it with a series of nulls, ones, or random data. This process is semi-randomized, and depends on how many overwrites you choose, which can be anywhere from 1 to 10. It then truncates the file to a zero byte file, and deletes it.
Securely delete your files and don’t worry about someone opening your financials on your sd card with a file recovery tool and a pc SD slot. I’m told by a reliable source that an overwrite setting of 7 or higher is DoD standard.
DIRE WARNING: it is possible to delete ANY file on your ppc. Be sure you know what you’re deleting. If you need to remove a file from the list, tap and hold on the file and choose “Remove from list”. Once shredded, it is gone. So be sure you want it disposed of.
In FileShredPPC 2.0 and higher, You can now wipe free space. Click on the “Free Space” Tab, choose the volume you want to wipe the free space on, and click on “Wipe Free Space”. Depending on the size of the volume, this might take a while. I wiped the free space on my storage card (about 18 meg of space) with the default 3 passes, and the file access ran at about 10KB/sec. Your mileage may vary here. Obviously, wiping the free space on a nearly empty 1gb cf card will take a while. You might want to put the device in a cradle or plug in the power cable while this runs, as the constant file access will drain memory heavily on wipes of large quantities of space.
The Volume dropdown might contain nonstandard directory names. In an effort to allow for storage cards and cf cards with custom names, i filter out the common directory names, like “\windows”, etc. If you see a directory here, don’t panic. It will simply fill up the free space of the flash volume anyway.
FileShred 2.2 introduces the ability to automatically load the ENTIRE contents of a directory for shredding by use of the Add Dir button. Click on this button, select your directory, hit select, and all files in the directory will be added to the Shred list!
