View Full Version : anybody suggest
r0007 11th December 2008, 12:10 is there a way to use two hard disks same time, with two different os.i have 2 hdd one 160 gb,one 80 gb.i want to instl xp and vista on them.BUT so that as we use different users in windows.when xp is activated on startup the other hdd is not visible nor recoganized by window and vice versa.or in other words i want to make two different comptrs with two difrnt hdds using same hardware resources.one thing must when using 80gb with xp,160gb does not have any relation with it and vice versa.:D please suggest.... thanks in advance:thanks:
basflt 11th December 2008, 21:17 i think i know what you mean
no
you can have two [ or more ] OS'S on one pc
but you can run only one at the same time
Myk! 12th December 2008, 04:25 Regarding your query if it is possible when using 80GB and the 160GB must not usable or vice versa, yes it can be. You need to disable the other drive on that OS or install an application for that.
I just cant remember the procedure and what application to use.
r0007 12th December 2008, 10:48 basflt what i want is to run one os at a time, but the other hdd is not activated at that time, nor it is accessable.choice of os or hdd is when system starts booting.suppose when 80gb hdd running with xp it uses all the other hardware resources of my pc,but not the 160gb hdd in any way,and vice versa. and please think myk.THANKS
basflt 12th December 2008, 20:45 are both disks detected in the BIOS ?
and what type are they
IDE disks must be set to master/slave
harddisks have [ allmost ] nothing to do with windows
basicly you can use as much disks and OS's as you want
r0007 15th December 2008, 11:22 sorry guys out for 2 days.basflt yes both hdd are detected in bios.i know any no. of hdd can be used with multiple os.what i want is to have 2 hdd attached to sata ports, with 2 os,but with some software app. or bios settings, during booting i can select which one to operate and which one to deactivate.deactivated hdd must not show any presence during other one working.presently what i m doing is physically removing one hdd from sata port and power source.to work on other hdd.but u know it is hard to do this 3 -4 times a day some times.thats why i need a simple app. or bios setting to make it easier.
THANKS FOR ALL OF U HELPING THERE.
basflt 15th December 2008, 18:27 i dont understand
both disks are present , but you want to deactivate em ?? why??
there is no need for that
just format them
make 1 partition on small disk and 2 on the big one
install xp first , run it , than install vista on one of the 2 remaining partitions
thats all
keep the thirth partition for your files
oh , and the " some software app " is automaticly installed when you install the second os [vista in this case]
Blue_Ray 15th December 2008, 18:32 sorry guys out for 2 days.basflt yes both hdd are detected in bios.i know any no. of hdd can be used with multiple os.what i want is to have 2 hdd attached to sata ports, with 2 os,but with some software app. or bios settings, during booting i can select which one to operate and which one to deactivate.deactivated hdd must not show any presence during other one working.presently what i m doing is physically removing one hdd from sata port and power source.to work on other hdd.but u know it is hard to do this 3 -4 times a day some times.thats why i need a simple app. or bios setting to make it easier.

r0007 18th December 2008, 12:50 well blue_ray please read carefully wht i said on 15.12.08 13.52 post.my main demand is "when one hdd is functional.the other one has no presence in system in any way."
as u stated to install multiple os on diffrnt partitions,is it possible to lock entire partition,so as not to be accessed by other os.
Blue_Ray 18th December 2008, 15:54 I mean, disable first hdd when u one using second hdd. and if u want using second hdd then disable first hdd. so all file on other hdd not accesible.
r0007 20th December 2008, 11:07 thanks blue_ray.i will try this out.
-|The Sniper|- 20th December 2008, 19:36 hey bro just do dis in a simple way.... there are jumpers on each hard drive.. to make it master slave and cable select mode...make your operating system hard drive as master (it may b set as master) and the 2nd one make it a slave.this is also written on hard drive that how to make drive master and slave. to me am using 3 hard drives at a time. one is 320GB and the other two are 160GB each and along these DVD-Writer. my master disk is 160GB on which I installed my OS. and DVD-Writer is also the master(secondry).other drives are slaves(1st and secondry slave).try this
basflt 20th December 2008, 20:04
master/ slave hasn't anything to do w' operating systems
only thing required is a bootmanager [witch is automaticly activated with windows]
if you want to know
i have 5 harddisks
2 x IDE
3 X SATA
and 2 x cd/dvd-drives
i 've put these SATAdisks in an nvidia RAIDarray [striped]
partitioned this array in four partitions ,
where i installed two windows versions
[ actually one at the moment since im busy downloading a newer version ]
and , eh
dis-abeling disks is not good too
:drinkers:
