Adobe Labs Distributable Player Solution

The distributable player solution enables developers to create rich applications for the latest version of Adobe® Flash Lite™ and directly distribute their content to millions of open OS smartphones, providing a better on-device user experience.

Benefits

Since the distributable player solution mimics the successful Adobe Flash® Player desktop model of content-triggered downloads, you can be confident that your users’ devices will always have the latest Flash Lite runtime.

Plus, the distribution model enables you to deliver free or paid applications to millions of open OS smartphones, through direct-to-consumer distribution or your existing distribution channels, or via Adobe’s aggregator partners, which include ******, Thumbplay, and Zed.

Finally, this solution gives end users a better experience by providing intuitive discovery and installation of Flash Lite applications. Consumers using supported Windows Mobile and S60 phones in India, Italy, Spain, UK, and the U.S. can easily download applications. (Additional countries will be added over time.) After downloading an application, consumers see its user-friendly icon in the device menu.

What it is

The distributable player solution consists of the following components:

Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player. Flash Lite 3.1 includes the same features as Flash Lite 3.0, such as support for Flash Player compatible video, with some additional enhancements including improved security model for SWF file access. The solution delivers a standalone player for applications, without affecting the Flash Lite browser plug-in or pre-installed standalone player, if present.

Adobe Mobile Packager

The Adobe Mobile Packager is a desktop tool to wrap a SWF application with a player version checker, an icon, and metadata into an installable file for user-friendly discovery on S60 and Windows Mobile devices. The resulting output file is recognizable by S60 (.SIS) and Windows Mobile (.CAB) operating systems, acting essentially like .ZIP or .AIR files.

Authoring support is provided via Adobe Flash CS4 Professional and Adobe Device Central CS4 with corresponding updates, or via Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Device Central CS3.

How it works

Take advantage of the distributable player solution in these basic steps.

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

1. Create

Create and test your Flash Lite application using Adobe Flash CS4 Professional and Adobe Device Central CS4 (with corresponding updates below), or Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Device Central CS3.

* Get Adobe AIR 1.5 update for Flash CS4 Professional

[Only registered and activated users can see links]
* Get Flash Lite 3.1 update for Device Central CS4

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

2. Package

Use the Adobe Mobile Packager to wrap your SWF file with an icon, metadata, and a version checker that downloads the latest Flash Lite player over the air.

3. Distribute

Reach millions of users with direct-to-consumer distribution, or leverage the marketing reach and billing services of off-deck aggregator partners, including ******, Thumbplay, and Zed.

4. Discover

After downloading, your end users can discover your Flash application through a visual icon just like other applications on the device.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Distributable Player:Supported Devices

Because it is a solution for off-deck rich application distribution, the Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player will be supported on smartphones with open operating systems which allow Over-The-Air (OTA) software downloads. At launch, the solution will be supported on Adobe tested devices based on Windows Mobile 5 for Smartphones, Windows Mobile 6 Standard/Professional, S60 3rd Edition, S60 3rd Edition feature pack 1, and S60 3rd Edition feature pack 2 devices platforms. Adobe will certify additional devices over time, prioritizing the most popular devices for the above mentioned platforms.

EDIT: Added on Feb 19th
This player will not appear as a new icon and will not replace your current Adobe Flash Lite Player (2.1 or 3.0) in your phone.
It will install (kind of) as a service.
Once you install and try to run an Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 app, the "hidden" player will detect it and run it.

Just so you all know:
I don't have a compatible phone to try it; however I'll try it in my E90 and post results (later today).

I kindly ask all people that try this to post phone model and FW version along with the result.
If it doesn't work and your phone is not in the Supported devices list, then that's the reason.

@aristotelhs2060
Will you please post your FW version as I requested? :punish:

Sometimes this'll happen with old (or maybe new??) FW versions. If possible also try a different FW version.

Anyone has any other thoughts about this?

Thanks,

Well, I can see most people that tried it and post results are not getting an icon.
In my E90 v210 I experience the same issue (and Yes, I know it's not in the supported list).

I tried installing it to both the Phone Memory (C:\) and the Memory Card (E:\) and still the same. I also tried restarting the phone (restart only; I haven't tried resetting it and won't do so in a while) to no avail.
I then decided to try to run it manually. In order to do so, I opened the sis file in my computer with siscontents and found out the main executable file is:
!:\sys\bin\saflash_dp.exe

Since my phone is hacked, and I have SymbExec installed, I turned off PlatSec, launched X-plore and went to that path to run the app.
I get the same error as fujiko09rpv:
AppZone corrupted.
Please reinstall

Since my phone is not in the supported list, I think this is normal, but fujiko09rpv has a 6120c which is supported.

I'll keep on looking for more info on this; in the meantime, please keep on posting your results; do not forget to include Phone Model and FW version.

Here's a little update.
I asked about this in the Adobe forums. Another user replied the following:

I believe that what you're seeing with the lack of a Flash Player icon
is the intended behaviour. The Distributable Player isn't meant to be
launched directly from an icon, but is used by apps bundled using Mobile
App Builder. The Distributable Player exists alongside any pre-installed
version of Flash Lite that may already be on a phone.

Have you tried installing and running any of the apps on

[Only registered and activated users can see links]
to see if the install of the Distributable Player was
successful?

I will try some of the apps in that link later today or tomorrow.
If somebody else does the same, please let us know if it works.

EDIT: Added 2 apps on Feb 19th.
Haven't tried these yet, but here are the other two apps: Nespresso and TowerBloxx.

Due to max amount of attachments restriction, you'll find 4 of these apps in first post and the other 2 in post# 22 ([Only registered and activated users can see links]).
I haven't tried these yet, but will do so soon.

Hey,
I've installed this distribution on my E51 (with Flash Player Lite 2) and there is of course no icon of FL3.1. But when I need to open flash file, version 8 there is an error and I can still open only flash files version 7 or lower.

So, how can I open flash files version 8 (supported by FL3.1)?
