Hi,

Is there a way to restore the settings post this? Won't it affect the phone's warranty?

Try4Deepak
18th February 2009, 07:29
Yes. Just use the same trick to make your product code back to normal.

Just note down your current product code and replace it when once the update is done! :D

Funny thing,
I bought my phone from India, since I updated the firmware the music content which came pre-loaded has stopped playing. Any clue why? I even tried and changed phone's code to the original one, still i get the message in music player "Unable to play content" "Content may be corrupted"

There won't be any network problem bro. You can easily do that. BUT note: I haven't tried it! Coz i got the fone unlocked.`

zeljaz

So i havo to click only on "(un)lock" or what?

So you think there won't be any problems with my phone?

Try4Deepak
23rd February 2009, 22:31
If updating from previous firmware with lock code enabled to v20. your phone will not be accessible whatever pin code u enter either ur own, or default codes... 12345, 00000 etc (BEFORE UPDATING TO V20, TURN OFF YOUR LOCK CODE !)

zeljaz
23rd February 2009, 22:42
my phone is not unlocked and I changed the product code to "balkan red" and after the update to v20 it works without any problems...after the update it turns on and I typed in the pin-code and it works...

Or do I something misunderstand??

Try4Deepak
23rd February 2009, 22:52
then there won't be any problem i guess. If you want to unlock. I donno the method to unlock with this. But, It is possible for plenty so give it a try or wait for someother to help you in unlocking. Coz I never unlocked my fone thru this method.` `

i have updated my nokia 5800 to firmware : 20 but with unwanted product code, i mean with it's original product code, now i have changed it and tried to update it with nokia software updater (NSU) but it sais :"no update is found for your device". i think i have to flash my nokia and get back to firmware 11. if my thought is true , can JAF1.98.62 flash my nokia and make it returne to to firmware 11? it my thought is wrong, what way do you advise to update my firmware with my new product code? this is so critical for me coz i want to write my messages in Farsi, but my update with wrong product code still limits me to do this, please answer me if you can, as soon as possible,

Oops! I think you need to go back to the same product code and complete flash your mobile. It is really hard to get back to the v11 version. But, give it a try. Coz these are the side effects of the product code which will install with the language cod of that region with English.

What is the difference between red and blue codes?
Only difference is the standard theme that starts after the update is installed. Everything else is exactly the same. Now, if only I could find the product code for the Australian 5800. Anyone got one? Do me a favour and post your product code so I can change mine. Much obliged.....:urtheman:

Okay, here's a list of as many Nokia 5800 Product Codes by country I could find. Hope this helps if you plan on changing your pKey. Sorry, but I supply this data as a help to those chasing this info. Please don't ask me for an explanation of the codes, or how to change them.

Cheers to Johnny Brasco for the codes.

Is there a different product code for a British 5800 "Comes with Music" edition? I have a 3 month old 5800, and a Comes with music card from a N97, but the nokia music software says the 5800 doesn't support Comes With Music, but ithey have just started doing, so I presuming it's checking the product code number to verify if the phone is the right version.

To find the code on your own 5800, take out the battery and look on the label/sticker you'll find behind it in the battery compartment of the phone.

Here's the Dutch P-Codes:

Netherlands Red: 0576907
Netherlands Blue/Black: 0581915

or you can use either one of the three Euro Red P-Codes:

Euro1 Red: 0558982
Euro2 Red: 0559066
Euro3 Red: 0559298

Yes there is a different P-Code for the majority of UK-released 5800's. It's dependent on what network you hooked up to when you bought the phone (outright or contract, doesn't matter) as each provider has had their own separate firmware pre-installed by Nokia. Here are the generic British Isles P-Codes, plus you can also change your P-Code to one of the Euro generics if you want:

British Isles BLUE: 0559346
British Isles RED: 0552438

The operator-specific ones for the UK are:

The reason for the differences between firmwares based on country have a bit to do with what's termed 'Radio Firmware'. This directly relates to how the device detects and connects to the different radio frequencies for cell phones in each country.

Hope this information has helped you in some way :) If so, a :thanks: by sending some karma my way sends good vibes throughout our esteemed forum.....

Ok that's very clear Djshotty.

So if I change my productcode to for example Netherlands Red: 0576907
I can update my firmware. (and unlock my phone)

Can I change back my productcode after updating the firmware?
And can I change all settings back when it doesn't work?

All depends. What's your current P-Code? If it's different to what I posted there, then you'd have to check with Nokia for what firmware version is available for the Netherlands Red P-Coded 5800. Go to the nokia.com site for your region, navigate to the 'Can I Update?' section, enter 0576907 for Device Product Code and see if the firmware version available for download is newer than the version you currently have installed in your phone. If so, then following the instructions found in the first post of this thread, change your P-Code to the one shown above for Netherlands Red and then try a Nokia Software Updater (NSU) update. Just remember, back up your data/contacts/bookmarks before doing the update.

Not sure, but there's really no harm in trying. I haven't had a great deal to do with flashing BB5's and Symbian OS. What I put up here in my posts, I've learned from doing updates on the HTC XDA's I've owned in the past, running Windows Mobile 6 operating system. I do know there are ways to 'unbrick' your phone if things you try go wrong, but my help is limited to just knowing what codes are for what part of the world, and the 'basics'. As for device settings, any firmware update (or flash) will clear out all existing settings to factory defaults, so post-flashing you'd need to set up the phone the way you like it anyway. Don't quote me, but I have heard this method of changing your P-Code and re-flashing is a work-around for 'unlocking' your phone from a particular network, freeing it up to use any service provider's SIM card. I myself have never needed to break my phone free from the constraints of a single network provider, having made the decision long ago to never purchase a phone from anywhere except the manufacturer directly. This way, I don't have to put up with the 'Locked to (such-and-such) network' or the 'bloatware' included in a device bought from, say, Vodafone or Orange.
ComesWithMusic, by the way, is a limited service only available in certain sales markets/countries. Nokia use your IMEI in conjunction with your P-Code to determine your device's eligibility for the service.

My phone data
Model: 5800d-1
P-code: 0577458

Now, according to Nokia Netherlands (Nokia Europe) the latest firmware for your phone is 20.0.012, whereas the latest update available for the generic Netherlands Red RM-356 (Product Code: 0576907) is 21.0.025. This is the very latest available firmware for the device, no matter where you are in the world or what product code you have set.
If you follow the instructions in the first post of this thread, found by clicking the link below:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

you will be able to change your Product Code and 'trick' Nokia Software Updater into loading on Firmware Version 21.0.025 for Product Code 0576907. As for if your device will work after you've done the flash then changed the P-Code back to 0577458, I can't promise you anything. From my research, I'm yet to find any information that says it'll work, so if you flash to 21.0.025 then change your P-Code back to what it was, then you do so at the risk of bricking your phone :oops2: - and if you don't know what 'bricking' means, it's when the phone becomes pretty much useless.:oom: So yeh, by all means, follow the instructions in Try4Deepak's post, change your P-Code then flash to the new firmware. Just don't be surprised if you kill your phone after you reset your P-Code back to the first one you had.

So you say:

Change the productcode and upgrade the firmware and don't change the productcode back into the old one if you don't want the risk of getting a useless phone. :afraid:

I have a quick question for you. My phone is an RM-428, when I try to update it says that I have the latest one (which I don't). If I change the product code to one from the RM-356 list, will I be able to update? And, If I do, can something stop working? I use the 3g connection a lot and I don't want to loose that.
Please, let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance.

is there any harm sharing one's product code? a friend of mine cannot update his phone and we were thinking about using my product code to update his phone, would my phone gets hammered in any way by doing that?

@baqai
The product code is not a serial number or something like that.
This is a code for phones sold in a certain region/country.

It's normal for many phones to share the same product code.

Before you change your product code check
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
that it has the firmware update you waiting for.

did all the above steps, but when i click on read values, nothing shows in the text boxes. Is the product code supposed to show up so that it can be changed.

Entered product code for euro 3 red, did not see v40...
