View Full Version : TTS not working on TomTom ONE running 8.016

I downloaded the latest USA and Canada map 8.15 2022 and was able to use it on my old TomTom ONE without a problem. However, I could not get the Text to Speech enabled. I downloaded Susan and Dave TTS and ASR files but still got no sounds. Any suggestions?

According to TomTom, 8.016 is for the GO 630 specifically.

Does it mean that I need to downgrade it back to 8.010?

I thought the map 815.2022 is a smaller version map without TTS ability.

Or are all maps enabled for TTS?

Did someone put you up to this? ( tpot I bet... never did trust that bloke :hehe: )
How much were you paid? ( remember - matabele gumbo beads are not proper currency )

Going to change my nick-name to yDdraigGlas, if the colour of my face is anything to go by.......
OK.. and a 1.... a 2....... a 1, 2, 3, 4.................

Voice OUTPUT = TTS - Tom talks 2 U.
Voice INPUT = ASR = U talk to Tom.

No maps are TTS enabled, it is the device/navcore that has the ability to use Computer voices to interpret map data.

Some maps are ASR enabled, and those that are will have the supporting cspeech dat files.

I will post links to the threads where this was discussed after a brief search.
Prime candidate for another FAQ. ASAP. OMG. ( no, not operate my go, this time... )

I see this is somewhat of a sore point! =)

My apologies.

But thank you for responding with such vigor. This actually makes me very happy to discover it is not map-dependent.

Some of the stickies on this fantastic board are great. Others, not so good. Activating TTS on units not originally designed for it (such as the older TTOne, like my Limited Edition), written in understandable English, would be a fantastic one. So far I have yet to find one that I can follow.

If you know if a good thread which explains this simply, please direct me. I tried this one:
[Only registered and activated users can see links]
but it's out of date (discussing 7.163 navcore here). Most of these discuss old navcore's with old old maps. I'm using 8.204.9718 (though I also have a SD card running 8.010.9369).

Specific questions:
1. What are ALL the files that need to go into the LoquendoTTS folder? Specifically, after copying over one of TTUser's SE navcore files, what additional files need to go into that folder?

2. Any other files need to be updated beside the LoquendoTTS folder? I've been assuming not.

EDIT:
FINALLY I FIGURED IT OUT. JUST HAPPENED TO STUMBLE UPON THE RIGHT POST. JESUS.

From what I can surmise, many Tomtom One units cannot handle the LoquendoTTS voices. They have to use an older technology with older voices. However, even with the new navcores, these older voices work. The instructions in the above link are the right way to go.

I have used the link above to install the voice files with a 8.010.9369 navcore and it works fine. I need to test it with my 8.204.9718 navcore.

Back to my original question. Actually, it seems to lose the standard voice on navigation. Do you think I better revert it the version back to 8.010?

Sorry to pull the thread off topic, tom2011.

Yes, I think you should just revert. Do you think 8.016 gave any added functionality?

tom2011
25th February 2009, 03:18
It's okay tragicm.

I am not looking for a particular feature in 8.016. I just know that it works for USA and Canada map v8.15 2022. I used to have 7.221 but it was not reading the new map.

Do you know if it will work for the latest map?

tragicm
25th February 2009, 03:23
Right, navcore 7.221 will not work with the v815 maps. Version 7.9 supposedly will.

Navcore 8.010 does work with USA/Canada v815.2022. I had that setup specifically and it works fine. The vocalizerTTS voices also work fine with that setup. But the map does not have ALG or IQ Routes.

Slightly off topic, map 815.2019 North America does have the ALg/IQ routes. I think you need navcore 8.2 or higher in order to use that map however.

Would you point to me as where to download 8.010 for my tomtom one?

On the other hand, do you mean I should take 815.2019 with 8.2xxx Navcore? Will this work for my one?

My last post doesn't seem to get through :)

Would you point to me as where to download 8.010 for my Tom Tom ONE?

Do you think I should try out 815.2019 and 8.2?

The 815.2019 and navcore 8.2 works pretty nicely. A tad bit sluggish, but okay nonetheless. It depends on if you think IQ routes and advanced lane guidance are that important. I just tried it for the first time this AM on my way to work and it wasn't bad, so I may keep it for a while. I do think the IQ routes does make a difference, it's been giving me different routes which are more in line with what I normally take (as a local traveler as opposed to a tourist).

I wanted to try out 8.2 too. Would you please advise where I can download it? Do you think it will work for 815 2022 too?

Yes, 8.2 navcore will work with 815.2022.

Working more with 8.2 navcore this AM, it was somewhat sluggish in recalculating routes on the 815.2019 map. Not awful, but understandable if you're pushing a lower-end model to perform like the high end. Did not remove the bluetooth functionality, which may give me more ram and zippier performance.

If you go down to 815.2022 map, you may as well revert to a standard App install.
By ditching the 2019 map, you make the 8.20x App a purely aesthetic enhancement.
This App. change will make better use of the limited memory too with no RAM saving required.

Remember, even if you load the 2022 map, you still have the RAM saving to contend with.
So personally, loading the little map would make me walk away from the fight under those circumstances.

:goodluck: either way

@yddraiggoch - Great point, I concur completely.

@tom2011 - The new icons with x40 emulation with navcore 8.2 are pretty, but not worth anything more if you stick with the standard USa/Canada map. In fact, I do x30 emulation with the 8.2 because I think the x40 emulation is even more sluggish. I have ~4 mbs free RAM with my current setup of 8.2 + 815.2019.

Hi guys,

I installed 8.2 to my device. It could access the map but still got no sound on TTS. If I switch it back to standard voices, it speaks out only once on the first turn while navigating, then I lost its sound.

Any suggestion?

What kind of voice files are you using? LoquendoTTS or VocalizerTTS?

tom2011
27th February 2009, 06:39
I am using LoquendoTTS

tragicm

LoquendoTTS does not work well with Tomtom Ones.

Get rid of it. You need to use the VocalizerTTS files. Follow the link I posted earlier.

I am sorry but I could not find the instructions for VocalizerTTS.

tragicm

Nope, this one:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

You've already done just about all that the post instructs. You just need to:

1. Delete the LoquendoTTS folder
2. Make the VocalizerTTS folder and put the voices in (you need either Samantha or Tom, the English voices - I'm assuming you want English)
3. Get the "suspend" file and put it in the root directory.

I think that's it! You're almost there. You may need to make some adjustments to the booting configuration for RAM-saving, etc.

LoquendoTTS voices when loaded by the TTOne cause the sound to go out completely (until reset). Choosing another non-TTS voice after having loaded a Loquendo TTS voice won't bring it back either, until you reset.

Hello,

I am hoping someone could help, please.

lessram

Here's the "solution" (I hope);
TomTom One cannot handle the newer ogg sound files.
You probably added a POI warning (i.e. speedlimit warning) sound or selected one from the menu.
DON'T !!!!
If you want to use POI warning sounds;
recompress them to ogg mono 22khz
Then your problems will be gone.

Case might even be that you used a new voice version. To solve that, select a voice, make a test drive, if it crashes; reboot the TomTom and select another voice until you find the right one. But first make sure it ain't the POI warning sounds.

TTS, loquendo
They won't ever work on a TTOne so remove that (and better disable it by using TTSOFF). If you really want those buy a newer model TomTom.
Vocalizer... might work, but it's terrible delaying the One.

I use a recompressed gong_x3 POI warning..... and it solved the problems you're having. This solution has been mentioned here before, some months ago. But due the overload of topics, indeed hard to find.
(Sorry I didn't read your message before.... haven't visited the forum in months and started visiting again because of the new maps... using 8.25 W&C Europe FULL version and it's working great here)

Hi lessram,

Thank you for your response.

I used to have TTS on my TTOne with 7.221 Navcore. But I started to lose them and the standard ones once I installed 8.016, then now with 8.203.

I removed POI warning but still could not get it working.

Try a newer Navcore (8.410 appears popular)

Any chance that I could try to use VocalizerTTS? The download link on the old threads is already broken.

With SE Navcore 8.410.1218
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

you can use Loquendo with no problems.

Voices can be downloaded from TT directly: working links are in the forum.

Loquendo did not work for me but I believe VocalizerTTS has fixed my problem. I could hear the computer voice on route demo. I will test it later on with my car.
