Hi guys, I have a new Mexican roommate who like to download ILLEGAL things, everytime I ask him to turn off his torrent client, he seems not happy and tell me that it's not fair to him (WTF!!)

Now what he's doing is he turn on his torrent client, LOCK his door, and leave the house for the whole day, and I'm stuck at home and my internet is sooooooo SLOW.

Everytime I reconnect my router, his torrent client also reconnect automatically, so it's useless.

He's using wireless connection, so PLEASE TEACH ME how to disconnect his Internet connection from my computer, is there an application to do it, or I should do something else.
PLease tell me step by step, because I'm not really experienced in internet connection.

Need your HELP
:oops2:

Setup your router. Put a WPA or WEP protection thats the simplest thing.

If your router supports firewall you can configure it and block torrents or site you dont want him to go to. But not all router have this configuration so check it.

Check your router name and model then search at google for manual & configuration.

and, u may disconnect him with web page manually. Use modem's default ip ( I mean when u buy a new modem (or want to re-configure it) and then type the address ( eg. 192.168.1.1 ) log in to modem's configuration page, then click to wireless (if exists) then disconnect his pc. But be careful, if you disconnect your pc accidently, u may not able to connect again until it is allowed. If you dont know what is modem password, use google to search default modem pass. Good luck.

Another option is to set up a MAC address filter in your router's settings. Add your wifi adapter's MAC address to the list. (to get it under XP, open the command prompt and type ipconfig /all )
That way, you can choose when to add or remove his MAC address.

But you should always encrypt your network, as Myk suggested, for your sensitive data's security.

Depends of his computer knowdledge and time to spend... But some ideas:
1.-set Wpa2 or wpa encryption with a pass that isnt going to be in any dictionary, dont use any real word, and course use all the length.
(If actually you only can set wep, update router fw and maybe will allow wpa)
2.-Change router ip adress. and put a non common ip.
3.- Shut of DHCP server and configure ips manually.
4.- Filter by mac.
5.- Change default router password if not already, and put a good pass.
6.Hide essid and put a non common name.
Of course if you have physical acces to router (if not in locked room) if it has the possibility unable wifi in the webpage config and connect by cable from pc to router.

Greetings

Edit: Wow i didnt realize the date of the post..

yes uniquemaster was right..first download a tool that scans MAC address of all pc in your network (your wireless area of coverage). After you have all the MAC address of all PC in your wireless area of coverage select the MAC address that you think that's your friends pc.Configure your router (like linksys router) that disables PC users in wireless via MAC address.

prior in doing this thing, make sure that you get his/her MAC address so that you can dis-able it thru the router settings.

First, you don't specify whether you BOTH pay for the internet or if it is free where you both are. If you both pay for your internet, then you should both talk about agreeing the usage- maybe agree on time or arrangments. Simple. No need to go behind his back to try to block his internet if you BOTH are paying for it. Second, it shouldn't matter to you what he uses the internet for- unless you are the FCC or the CIA. That is his privacy. If he wants to surf PORN, download music...what not...none of your business to make it public...also not everything on torrents is illegal to download...Third, sounds like you might just not like his ethnicity...you made sure you said he was Mexican...what is wrong with just stating a "roommate" simply. Either way, I think there is more to your story, bud...
