Hmm, so this isnt the latest version of ahome, 1.2?
Any chance of giving us the latest version (not that we dont appreciate this) but supposedly many bug fixes and a good desktop manager are included in the latest update.

yeah, what I really want is to be able to manage my apps rather than have them in alphabetical order (which is a problem with the iphone and G1 tray)
Ideally the homescreen would be in the middle, with potentially 5 screens either side, to one side apps, to the other side games. Homescreen could be left for widgets.
I dont understand what google were going for with the 3 screens and tray, you have all your programs in your tray, and you can put a select few on the screen? Seems too repetitive and lacking in function for what its worth. At the very least they (or now us, i.e. someone with an app) should make it so you have two trays, one for apps, one for games, otherwise the amalgamation is quite messy, regardless of the alphabetical order.
The one thing I love is the widget support, but shame on google for not even having a calender.

Many thanks!
Is there anything that needs to be checked / done to the phone before installing this? Heard many stories of people using apps like this or dxtop and have crashes and phone problems, and being told later they needed to make sure of x, z or z before they did the install.
So, anything to watch out for?

never had any problems, and i myself have dxTop, hence i dont even know what u should be worried for, just go ahead and install everything u want if an app perhaps slows down or crashes go ahead and uninstall.
Have fun greetz mikey

I am afraid you misunderstand, I have installed the program, I just cant find it to run.
But I did find the instructions from somewhere to press home and then select ahome, and that worked, only unfortunately I accidently clicked default for normal home, not ahome.
Is there any way to change the default options, since I would ahome to load by default whenI press the home button, not my normal home screen?
Also, I want to put apps on the left and right hand side of the home screen, how can I do this?

go into your phone settings, application settings, then find your normal home app, go into it and press on the clear defaults button, then press the home button and you should be able to choose ahome

this ahome slow my G1 down, all the transitions between home screens aint smooth and I dont need that many hom screens anyway.
DxTop is too perfect for me but it needs more widgets, the digital clock of aHome rocks.

Hmm ive started getting crashes, and the same problems which they have now remedied in the 1.2 update, so I have uninstalled ahome for now until the 1.2 version becomes available.
Stupid thing is, the ability to make multiple screens should have been in the android OS to start with, the ability to add more widgets as well, why are we having to use ' hacks' to do what should be there already? It cant be ideal for the memory of the phone to be running two home applications (one base one and one ahome or dxtop on top), and in truth, these apps do not add much anyway, just some basic stuff we should have been provided with by google!

These widgets and more will actually be in the G1 in april. When the next update is released. The one called "cupcake".

well there may be an update but no "cupcake" if you read around "cupcake" isn't a new version of android to be released and used as an update, it's a development build that they test new features out in and then release the updates to us if all goes well (soft keyboard, sterieo bluetooth ect...) as for widgets all that we need is the API to be released so developers can make them.

the update, which is scheduled for some time around Easter, has many features of the "cupcake" build. Whilst it is not essentially going to contain everything written here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) (actually, it might do. we just don't know untill it arrives) i think it's pretty safe to say it's going to be the most "cupcake" like thing we're going to get.
but, techincally, you're correct. it wont be called 'cupcake' and neither will any update ever. more like RC34 or something much less interesting :D
