Hi,

I am using a TTOne V2 (with SD)
Placed NavCore 8.410 on it
Using W&C Europe 8.25

Connect a RDS/TMC (mini USB version) to it.
After booting the One, it starts searching for radio channel(s) with TMC/RDS signal.

And that's the problem..... it keeps on searching, never finds anything.
(Had it working with 8.204, also not great but it worked)
No shielded windows, so that ain't the problem.

Any one also experiencing this problem with a One, or does yours work without problem? How long does it take to find the right signal?

Does a specific switch file help?
Adding/changing specific files in outsourced.bin or the root ?

Previously I added a file (mctx.dat from 29july2008) in the root, which seemed to help a little. But now I don't see any difference.

Ayone an idea or tip/hint ?

Unfortunately, this is a well known problem. The sensitivity
of the receiver is poor. The older models are even worse.
Try an optimal setting for the antenna to see if the system
can work. If you want a working solution, use your car's
antenna (requires a hardware hack).

Success :partyman:

@ Lessram I am having the exact same problem. The TMC receiver is detected, but a signal is not obtained. I tried several settings (x40, x40light, different mctx.dat files and replaced files in the outsourced.bin), but I did not get a signal within 15-30 minutes as I usually do.
I think it has to do with this navcore. I will try coming weekend when I make a intermediate drive of 45 minutes to 1 hour and see if I will get a signal then, but I don't think I will get a signal.
If other people have gotten the mini-USB receiver to obtain a signal with the 8.410 navcore on a TomTom OneV2 can they then inform us.
@bobby1607 This is not a well known problem. The mini-USB receiver is much and I mean really much better compared to the old TMC receivers supplied by TomTom. An additional hack to improve reception is not needed for this one.

good morning everybody,

i updated the navcore last week to 8.410...after that i got an update through tomtom home for the rds tmc receiver...

last week on friday i connected the receiver and it worked for me...it found the messages really fast...

i got a one 30 series (the newest, i think in the ttgo.bif it is marked as v8) and wce 825.2157.
i'm using model x40, bton, ttsoff, fmoff and some other switches and outsourced.8410.

But i got another problem...when i drive, sometimes the roads are going off the screen for a second or so and the only thing whats displayed is the background!!! somebody else experience this? any hints?

Strange, because I connected my TT to Home yesterday as well but did not get any update. Did you use the version.txt to change the way TT home sees your navcore version?
Could you maybe upload your mctx.dat or maybe other files it updated throught TomTom Home?
Did it work before this update?
Thanks for your reply.

I only have the disappearance of the background when I just selected to navigate to a new road and it switches to the navigation screen that it first show the colored background and then a 1 second later the actually roads on there.

i think i had the version.txt switched to 8.010...i don't know if it was working before this update, cause i didn't test this.

i uploaded my mctx.dat file...

i hope it helps you out...because there where no other changes through this update!

Downloaded it, thanx.
"sadly" I don't have to use the car today, so won't be able to test it yet.

When I have time I will try tonight, however I have the idea that I already tried this 44kb mctx.dat file....
But anyway, tanks and Lets try and see if that works.

So far I have 3 mctx.dat file-versions;
Opened all 3 with text editor (I know there are more professional ways) and the last 2 seem to be exactly the same.

It's a known problem! It's mentioned in a lot of other forum and I tested personally (I own both and luckily my 930 accept both)

The latest USB receiver (014) is far worst in reception then the last jack version (013).
Please note that I'm not referring to the very first jack version that indeed had big problems, but it was withdrawn from the market by TT (replacing to all existing owners on request).

The last jack version available (the one marked 013) is the best as reception and I suggest that everybody that has difficult reception to try it. Just make sure is marked 013.

However the USB version must work as well even if it is far more difficult to obtain a decent reception.
The problems you are having with the new navcore is an incorrect mctx.dat (the one in the basicpack has problems).
Get a new one. Delete both and mctx.txt and and mctx.dat files from device and PC (in ..\Home\Downloads\..\RDS-TMC_supplier_data\) and TT home should download the right version.
Also cancel in your device the content of the gns/ folder

The latest mctx.dat was updated in August 2008 so any download after that will obviously give the same file ;)

I never had any problems with reception before, even in my house I had reception. Therefore I concluded that the new navcore is the problem and that it has nothing to do with reception.
However I will try what you said and let you know if it works or not.

How to force this download ? I don't have such a directory in my home/download folder. (Download without s !?)
Searched my whole PC (nothing hidden) on RDS-TMC_supplier_data, none found

vincentn1981

No Lessram, what scoiattolo49 means is that you also have to delete the mctx.* files from the download folder which TomTom Home stores somewhere in your Documents and Settings folder on your PC, otherwise it will use these files and just copy them to your TomTom device, without TomTom Home downlaoding new files.

lessram
16th March 2009, 13:41
I understood that, but I don't have such "backup" files.
I never downloaded such an update for mctx.dat/txt
I do have such folders like
phonedb
ephemeris
program
poi
etc.....

but no folder for RDS. Nothing with mctx.dat or something alike in it.
Also when I remove those files + the complete GNS folder from my device I don't get new versions... nothing at all.
(Might any switch be the cause of this?)

lessram
16th March 2009, 13:51
Also+ in the outsourced.bin folder is a file named tmcevents.dat purely looking at it's name, I assume it changes everytime you use TMC. So it's date has to change every time. Mine is still at 02-02-2009......

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 13:53
Lessram, please note that scoiattolo49 has updated his post. He also advices to remove the /gns folder, but read his post as well I would say...

scoiattolo49

The files that Home downloads should be the ones enclosed ;)

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 13:57
@Lessram, maybe you should try changing the version.txt to reflect the navcore 8.10, because for the TT OneV2 we already know it is not suppossed to support TMC according to TomTom.

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 13:59
@scoiattolo49 I assume these files have to be put in the root folder? Where do the *.toc files go? I assume they do not have to be put on the device as well.

@scoiattolo49 I assume these files have to be put in the root folder? Where do the *.toc files go? I assume they do not have to be put on the device as well.

Basically it's just one file that gets copied in the root of the device: mctx.dat that is in the cab file.
The .toc file is a description and it's just used to perform the update by TT (i.e. copy the mctx.dat from the cab to the root of your device).
You can use winrar to open the cab.

PS luckly I have still the old jack antenna (from my One)... the new USB included with the 930T is rubbish.
With the first I get a signal immediately and traffic is fully updated in less that two minutes. With the USB one I have to wait far longer and sometimes I don't even get a proper signal.

lessram

Used the version.txt to create the ttgo.bif containing;
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
But the device is still recognized as a TTOne New Edition. So if it being a TTOne is the cause of not getting those TMC updates... this didn't solve it.

vincentn1981

It has already been uploaded: http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2577650&postcount=17

Have it, but wanted to find a way being able to download it myself.
Can you tell me the date for your tmcevents.dat file in the outsourced.bin folder on your device.

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 15:13
Not at the moment, I will have to check that at home tonight if I have the time.
I guess this update is not working for you?

TTuser
16th March 2009, 15:38
ok seriously the file which home only offer for 8.010 have the same Content how the one from basicpack
the original file from 8.410 is only for tmc and was at all or very poor not working for me, i use now and include in basicpack the one from 8310 this one can tmc pro and is working good for me with a 10.2 antenna

tmcevents.dat see you normally nowhere and is not made to change it with a other, also since there is no other at all

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 16:41
That mctx.dat file is the same as from this package offered by tomtom a while ago?
http://www.anonym.to/?http://download.tomtom.com/sweet/internal_file/partialupdate/70002.2.mctx-dat.high-end.Aug08.cab
This package also looks newer than the version scoiattolo49 gave in this topic, because that version is 70001.2 and this one is 70002.2?

TTuser
16th March 2009, 16:58
i mean the high end 70002 with 52 byte which then also can tmc pro
this other low end 70001 with 44 byte is only offered for the poor TomTom ONE 3RD EDITION if 8.010 is installed it can only tmc and is also equal to the original from 8.410 cab

vincentn1981
16th March 2009, 17:14
Then these mctx.dat files will not solve the problem Lessram and me have, because we have already tried them both. Also tried your switch delgns, but that also did not make any difference.
Do you have a other idea?

scoiattolo49
16th March 2009, 17:24
In fact the one I'm using is the 52 byte version (930), downloaded from Home (navcore 8.302)

The files I posted before where only an example for the files to look for deleting from Home to force a new download.
This solves the problem of having the wrong/poor version (originally in the basicpack) for the GO models.

But, as TTuser rightly pointed out, if you have a ONE 3rd it will download again the (wrong/poor) file.

For clarity sake I enclose the file I currently use for my 930.

TTuser
16th March 2009, 17:38
In fact in basicpack is the "good" 52 Byte File:hehe::confused:

scoiattolo49
16th March 2009, 17:58
Sorry I meant in the "official" navcore downloaded from TT:
8.410.one2009_plus_2048_tts.CAB-navcore-PLF

In YOUR basicpack the file is indeed the 52 bytes one.. because YOU replaced it ;)

---

Update

I double checked both my ONE and my GO 930. Now I think i can summarize as follows:

ONE = it needs the mctx.dat size 44 bytes (not the one included in TTuser basicpack, but the original for ONE)
GO = it needs the mctx.dat size 52 bytes

In this way both models works for me perfectly ok with the same TMC receiver.

vincentn1981

I tested yesterday evening and it works again. All I did was copy the basicpack from TTuser over my existing Navcore8.410 and it worked. Within a few minutes I had a traffic update. Strange, because I only use the packages coming from TTuser... Maybe on sunday there was no traafic update... Well anyway, it works again, so we can worry about other things again.

@scoiattolo49 I used the 52 kb mctx.dat and that worked on my TToneV2, so I would use that one if I were you.

I've just updated my 720 to 8.410 and everything went easy and seemed to work. Managed to pair with my phone but then the traffic updates and cameras didnt work. I noticed that if I try to view my services it does nothing. Is this supposed to work?

Cheers,
Tony

PS: I currently have a paid subscription for traffic and cameras.

Just to add I'm using W&CE latest maps and completely erased my 720 before copying 8.410 to the device.

If I set model to x30 in model.txt it seem to work but I lose the x40 UI.
Is there a way to fix this so I can have services AND x40 look & feel?

Tony, I have been having this same issue which I had posted to another thread here. So far no solution there either. There was a user that said that they had 720 working with traffic, but I think that was using traffic receiver rather than wireless phone. With x30 emulation to you have all the voice commands. By that I mean do you have the voice options menu and more than just the nav to spoken address commands? That was one of the things that I was really hoping for with 8.410 was that I could have all the extended voice commands.

Was going to try x30 and see what happened but needed the dog gone thing for a trip and had already spent too much time trying different setups trying to get x40 fully working, so had to get it back to 8.320 and get on the road. So if you can let me know if x30 provides all voice commands that will save me some time when I get back latter this week.

Thanks hdflsts2002
(also Tony) :hifive:

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the reply, I do believe I read some of your posts in the original 8.410 thread by TTUser. I'd be happy to try out the voice commands however I've never used them so I have no idea how they work or how to enable/test them. I did have a quick look in the manual but no joy.

I know the spoken address works but I know you are not bothered about that. If you could give me some instructions on how to test this for you I'd be happy to give it a go,

Cheers,
Tony

Update: Have just downloaded the manual for the 740 and read the instructions, there is no option for voice control on my 8.410 w/ x30 emulation - sorry.

Update: Have just downloaded the manual for the 740 and read the instructions, there is no option for voice control on my 8.410 w/ x30 emulation - sorry.

Sorry didn't get back to you sooner to tell you where to find that option, but see you found it anyhow. Dang didn't think that full voice command was going to be an option with the x30 emu, but was hoping. Thanks for checking it out for me.
