View Full Version : TomTom One, 8.204 or 8.410?

I have posted the same thread in Italian forum (http://www.ipmart-forum.it/showthread.php?t=102790).
I think the navcore 8.204 is the best because it's more responsive and no cpu-intensive.

What do you think about it? 8.204 or 8.410?

Only for TomTom One.

I think the best answer is from Tomtom itself:

8.410 is intended for the One models (it is the default for the new One models coming out next week)
8.204 is for the x40 series and it's superseded by the new version 8.310

My experience confirm this: if properly set up 8.410 works far better on a One

Hi,

Can only confirm: 8.410 works like hell on my One XL. Very stable, no restarts or other problems.

No doubt; 8.410 !!!
Runs a little better then 8.204, indeed when properly set up

My preference would be 8.410 as well. Everything we would like to have working on our (according to TomTom) outdated TomTom Ones is working with this navcore very well. I only noticed one little annoying thing and that is while navigating the navigation screen shows every 5-10 minutes no rounds for approx. 0.5 seconds. I have already seen this being reported by others as well, but have not noticed this with 8.204.

I hate the 8.410 because it is slower than 8.210.
The 8.410 has more features than 8.210 but it sounds more slow than 8.210 because it's cpu-intensive (
especially with TTS On).
I have seen that the map has a big resolution in 8.410 (try to see the anti-aliasing on the curves/streets) so i think this is the big deal (about cpu-intensive).
I have 4-5Mb free ram with 8.410 and TTS On, but CPU see many difficulties to rendering the map.

running 8410 on go720, no stutter and so far works fine except for the ALG.

ALG works fine. Just remember that you need the right map (e.g. 825.2157)

I tested both a lot in my one 30series (2gb)...it should be exactly the same device as the new one coming out next week.
8.204 (x40 emu) is a little faster than 8.401 (x40light), both navigation and menu. (tts disabled).
Often it tooks a while to show the cursor and streets when I exit menu using 8.401 navcore...this doensn't happen with 8.204.
I think I'll wait and see if the 8.401 is the "final" version installed on the new devices...

8.410 is better on my one Europe22. It does not crash when using postcodes to find address on ABC keyboard like it did with 8.204.:good2:

OK Tested on 4 model TomTom One V2 (one New edition with SD card) - One V3 - One V6 small 30 series - One XL

Tested 8401 and 8204 with save mode folder (Outsourced.bin)
Tested bootloader 5.5122(xl) - 5.5105, 5.5122 (for One v2 and V3)
Tested bootloader 5.5022 - 5.5026 (for one small V6)

Result x40:
Work all option except TTS Voice (no tested)
Need Change Keyboard to QWERTY manualy

Result X40light or X40light2:
TTS Voice work (no tested)
No Zoom option icon
No Splash sound
No suspend sound
Keyboard set to QWERTY
Bluetooth off (Good for V3 and v6)
Big problem; Select Reset Factory Setting, will crashed for all device and you need to do hard reset (use Cleanflash for V3 and XL) ***

*** Any problem with X40light or X40light2 for V3 or XL then you need to do use Cleanflash in config or TTN (clean flash file) in main root or you can replace to X40 then soft reset
** Also hard reset work for One V2, v6, XL (keep reset button for at least 15 seconds)
* ABCD Keyboard work for One XL, One Small V6 with 8401

Hope you enjoy

well, I have been test 8.410 on my 910, all works great except for 3 annoying features...

1) the turn on time is far too looonggg...

2) it always thinks it has been connected to rds-tmc when plugged into car cradle even when its not.. the sidebar stays there gloating

3) I did notice that when the rds-tmc is really plugged in, if I run a demo route, the screen refreshes like as in a short pause before redrawing roads, never noticed this before....

With 8.410 I note one problem (TTOne V1) :

If you try to add a new PI to a already recorded list : this new .ov2 file becomes not legible any more.

Did you test this ?

Go 510, 8.410
It looses satellite signal (under an interchange for example) more readily than other versions.

I'm using 8.410 on my One XL and is working way better and faster than my old 8.010.

Although, I've lost IQ routes.
It's not an option in my planning preferences anymore. It vanished. :shoutout:
Anybody know how to enable this feature?

Thanks,
Homer

for the one XL, 8.204 is better. even the rds-tmc works, on 8.410 it doesn't

d'oh!
I just realized that 2159 maps don't do ALG and IQ routes.

But 8.410 with North America map 2157 works very well on a TT One XL.
RDS-TMC traffic also works!

Thanks to all for this easy setup! :urtheman:
