View Full Version : Installation on GO720 - SE Navcore 8.412.1236
neojohn 25th April 2009, 11:42 Hi please look at post #27 for a detailed guide for installing this navcore on 720
Hi
This is what I have understood so far. Please correct me if i'm wrong -
To install the SE on 720 -
1) Backup the internal memory.
2) Format the internal memory.
3) Copy the contents of basicpack.rar on to internal memory and delete outsourcd.8412, Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com and switchfiles.zip (Do i delete system5.5128 also?)
4) Copy ASR and relevant material in loquendo tts from the backedup folder on to tomtom internal memory
5) Extract SE_ttsystem.8.412.1236.rev1.1.rar onto tomtom internal memory(except the readmenot.txt)
Could someone please tell me if there is anything more i should be doing to make it work on GO720? are the switch files and associated folders really necessary for it to work on 720?
Thanks
esquiro 25th April 2009, 13:18 Hello,
With GO 720/520, use better a SD Card to install/test new Navores.
So, TOMTOM will run with SD Card Navcore (if SD Card inserted in TOMTOM) and Memory Navcore (if no SD Card inserted). This is usefull to return to a correct/validated Navcore. SD Card system is always first booted priori to Memory system.
Warning: System5.5128 is a bootloader ("System" version 5.5128). The bootloader file is present (file named "System") in Root of your TOMTOM System (SD Card or Memory). If this file version is "different and newer" than the one contained in your TOMTOM Hardware, when booting, it's copied into the TOMTOM Hardware.
You can't come back to an older version (so be carefull if you make upgrades).
To avoid problems, always use your "System" file. And change your "System" file only when you're sure to ugrade your TOMTOM Boot.
neojohn 25th April 2009, 13:57 Thanks esquiro,
I didnt know what to do with that system5.5128:hehe:
So I backed up and formatted the internal drive
Copied basic pack and ttsystem (minus outsourcd.8412, Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com and switchfiles.zip)
Copied the stuff what was in the backed up version which was not there in the new tomtom internal flash on to the tomtom flash
updated the bootloader
and tomtom is still fit as a fiddle:hifive:
Map anti aliased now... great.
Line out not working ... but it works when the fm transmitter is turned on! Well serves my purpose, anyways!
Voice command and TTS is perfect!
Thanks everybody.... :urtheman: especially TTUser:yourock:
tendriver 25th April 2009, 14:53 Congrats. Well done!!!!
capao33 25th April 2009, 21:06 Everything is fine for my GO 720 T (emu x30)
with this exceptional navcore 8.412.1236
(ttsystem rev 1.1 is dated from 24th of april 2009 not rev. 1.0 from 10th of april 2009)
* FM transmission
* Bluetooth headset stereo A2DP
* Bluetooth gsm mobile phoning
* Trafic RDS/TMC via GPRS mobile subscription
* Mp3
* No flickerings at all.
* High sensibility
* lots of news details visibles details on cards v 825
Here are my global usuals settings
in \config
put a setconfig.txt file with inside
model:x30
runclean
sdid:1
nomsg
delgns
delmap
viewmsg

(be careful switch rm is not compatible with Bluetooth)
and in your
ttgo.bak (and ttgo.bif) verify that u have got
[TomTomGo]
DeviceName=TomTom GO 720
DeviceVersionHW=GO 720
DeviceSerialNumber=XXXXXXXXX
DeviceUniqueID=XXXXX XXXXX
RamDiskVersion=20090403
BootLoaderVersion=55022 (this is mine BL the better for GO 720 with a SD/SDHC 8 Go)
LinuxVersion=303268
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8410
ApplicationVersion=1236
UserLanguage=your's
UserName=your's
......................
......................
But in TomTom Home
"Manage your TT"
is not yet operational because it's a ttuser beta version not supported by TT
Mapshare works also very fine.
Same in emu X40 but I prefer X30 emu for my RDS/TMC Info trafic via my bluetooth GPRS mobile.
A really good job, ttuser
neojohn 25th April 2009, 22:39 does the line out work for playing instructions and mp3 in the x30 emu?
vincentn1981 26th April 2009, 11:51 Note that if you have in ttgo.bak file these numbers:
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8410
ApplicationVersion=1236
TomTom Home will offer you a new navcore version, which is actually a downgrade. Therefore to prevent this you should use the verion.txt file and copy there the contens which is specific for your device from the readmenot.txt file, formatted like this:
A:7903
B:9183
Where this is the numbers valid for the TomTom GO, GO x00, GO x10, ONE 1st Edition, ONE 2nd Edition, as mentioned in the readmenot.txt file.
I don't think it is needed to have the right numbers of you current running navcore in your ttgo.bak file, to make operate my go work. For that you just need a DLL file, which is also provided in the basicpack, in the directory: Navcore.8.412###@tomtom.com folder in the basicpack.

sorry my mistake in ttgo.bak/ttgo.bif

And all is ok.

G0 720 & audio line out
Yes in emu x30 audio line out is OK (really tested) on my GO 720
with navcore 8.412.1236 on a micro SDHC card 8 Go class 6
(with ttsystem rev 1.1 and Boot Loader v 55022 7 juillet 2008)
eveything's fine
not really able to find any mess
neojohn 27th April 2009, 20:11 Thanks capao33.
Everything works fine now.
So in x30 emulation, we lose the voice command function which is possible with the x40 emulation, right?
Spoken address input and TTS is working fine though.
capao33 27th April 2009, 20:54 @neojohn
yes we have to choose
* x30 emulation : a few commands voice but access to gprs tomtom subscription trafic via gsm mobile bluetooth and eveything is ok
* also access to rds/tms trafic via special antena
- x40 emulation (default)
lots of vocals commands (more than 100...) but we've not access to our gprs tomtom trafic ....weather ... friends ...
except in a tomtom live profile with these news models 740/940 and a fee payed each month (europe) about 9,95 €

Thanks capao33,
but the only voice commands Iam able to use with x30 emulation is the spoken address. I dont see the voice command button at all in x30 mode. What do you mean by "few commands voice" in x30 mode? Did you mean the spoken address input?
I tried the x40 and in x40 i see the voice command working.
capao33 28th April 2009, 16:58 @neojohn
u are right in x30 emu it's the only voice command (input, spoken adresse) and it's not a button !
not any other voice command in x30 emu
a big voice commands button (a micro) is only present in x40 emu
try to see, replacing in your setconfig.txt file existing in \config directory
model=x30 by model=x40
athon34
vincentn1981 28th April 2009, 17:09 indeed you can change the mulation from x30 to x40 buy going in to /config and edit in the setconfig.txt file the line:
model:x30
to plain:
model:
Typing x40 is not needed, it is standard x40.
Do not use the = sign, that will not work. What basically will happen then is that you get x40 emulation as well, but when you want to change it back to x30 and you use the = sign you will still have x40 emulation.
capao33 28th April 2009, 18:28 @vincentn1981
u're right it's was a mistake
the correct syntax is
in setconfig.txt file in TomTom \config directory
model:x30
; but also possible
model:x40 (set by default)
model:x20 (also possible)
athon34
neojohn 28th April 2009, 19:13 Hmmm...
I loved the voice command option in x40. But I'll pass on it for now!
I shall use the quick menu button to access the most frequently used voice commands...
Lets hope TTUser will come up with an x40 emulation mode that supports line out playback of instructions and mp3 and that supports rds-tmc
Till then we party with what we have:partyman::partyman::egdance:
samson111 28th April 2009, 20:13 Yes...we need an x40 emulation mode that supports line out playback of instructions and mp3 !
Thanks to TTUser !

You don't need any of these on a 720.

I thought maybe did something :wrong:

You didnt do anything wrong to make the 720 work like a 740.
But if you want to make it work like a 730 you will need to do a little bit more. But if you dont use RDSTMC Traffic info, automatic day night switching and audio line-out facility of your TT, you dont really need to do any alterations (i.e, keep using it like 740).

capao33 1st May 2009, 21:23 @lurch3559
work in emu x30
have a setconfig.txt file in your \config directory
containing
model:x30
runclean
sdid:1
nomsg
delgns
delmap
viewmsg
usesetting
only that !
tendriver 1st May 2009, 22:41 So what needs to added/changed in order to have automatic day/night switching?
If auto day/night is your only concern, leave your device as a x40 model and switch it with Voice Control, as I do. Once you have played with Voice Control, auto day/night will be a non-issue to you.
neojohn 1st May 2009, 23:14 Hello,
It looks like many who are starting to mod their tomtom get confused with the switchfiles. Detailed instructions are given at many places in this forum by good fellas. When it comes to ttgo720, some get confused if switchfiles are needed or not and also about what to do with the "outsourced" folder in the case of ttgo720. 720 is probably one of the easiest to mod. I started out confused about many things as you can see at the start of the thread.
So I thought I will write a simple guide to those who are confused.
This guide should help you to install any upcoming navcore if the basic procedure wouldnt change
- Credits to the masters of TT modding especially TTUser, but all others and capao33, vincentn1981 and tendriver as well!
Backup first
Go to TT internal drive. Make sure that you can view hidden files as well (For WinXP double click 'My computer' click on tools>folder options>view>show hidden files and folders) Select all contents in your TT. Copy it. Paste it to a folder you like in your computer.
Find your current navcore
To start with, find out if your TTgo 720 is running currently on navcore >8.2 or not.
If not, download the ASR folder using the instructions on this link
http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2566284&postcount=15
The rest of the info is same regardless of the navcore you already have in your tt with one difference. If you have navcore<8.2, you will have to copy the ASR folder that you have downloaded, to your TT internal device. For that, delete the ASR folder that you have in your TT. Copy the new ASR folder on to your TT. ASR is needed for the TT to properly understand Spoken Address input. The individual files may vary depending on the Language and Map (?)
Now there are 2 options to proceed with
Option 1
Installing the navcore
Open basicpack.rar with winrar (http://www.rarsoft.com/download.htm ). Extract all the files to TT internal drive, thereby overwriting the existing files or folders with the same name.
Extract ttsystem.rar to internal drive.
Create a folder "Config" in root of TTinternal drive. In that create 2 files
1) version.txt with just 2 lines
A:current navcore(current official navcore for the device)
B:build of navcore
Both these numbers can be got from ttsystem.rar>readmenot.txt. Currently it should be
A:8302
B:9738
2) setconfig.txt with following info
model:x30
runclean
sdid:1
nomsg
delgns
delmap
viewmsg
usesetting
Please note that the smiley after model should be read as a ':' followed by an 'x'
This will make your 720 work like a 730. If you want to make it work like a 740, in the first line, delete x30. Refer readmenot.txt for the exact functions. Here is a modified readme not.txt http://www.ipmart-forum.com/showpost.php?p=2514843
+ with 740 -> Cute icons, Lots of voice commands(neat)
+ with 730 -> RDSTMC traffic, Automatic day-night switching, Working audio line-out. These functions are not working in the 740 mode for some reason. Lets hope that TTuser will come up with some solution for that.
Like tendriver pointed in the previous post, for the auto day night, you can use the voice command feature of the 740 mode. Please note that even though the audio line out is not working in the way its supposed to be in the 740 mode, there is a work around. Connect the audio lineout and use FM transmitter mode. The lineout will start sending signals for mp3 playback, but not for instructions.
Even though the audio line out is working in the way its supposed to be for 730 mode, the signal level through the line out is too high that the audio quality is not that good! Some may note the poor quality, some may not. So it is not that big of a loss in quality anyways. The signal level through the line out when using FMtransmitter mode is just right - excellent audio quality.
Delete the files ttgo.bak and ttgo.ori if you have them in your internal drive. Open ttgo.bif and confirm the bootloader version, application version number(ie the SEnavcore version number, for eg,8.412) application version (the SEnavcore build, for eg 1236). If not, correct it.
Delete the folder outsourced, switchfiles.zip and navcorexxxx@tomtom.com.
Installing the bootloader
This is an irreversible step. You cannot go back to the previous bootloader once it is done. You can choose to install it or not.
You will now see a file called "system5.5128" in your TTdrive. It is the bootloader. I tried it in go720 with no problems. To install it, delete the file with the name "system" and rename the "system5.5128" to "system"
Option 2
Some may like to format the TTinternal drive and do a fresh start.
If you wish so, you could format it and then do the same procedure as described in option 1. In the end , remember to put back some of the folders and files that you have backed up before formatting.
Those may include the folders like art, ASR, mp3s, raster schemes, SDKregistry(if you have installed some additional software like these http://home.comcast.net/~spheasant1/3rd_party.html ) and some files like your .bmp files for splash screens, .ogg files for your ringtones among others.
Patching the TTHome
Open TThome . Click on help>system information>profile folder. Go to that folder. You will find a folder "extensions" in that. Open it. Create a folder in it with the name "Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com"
Open basicpack.rar. open the folder that says Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com in it. You will see a .dll and .rdf file in it. Drag those 2 files to the Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com folder that you created just now. Now drag all the files in the basicpack.rar root starting with "data" (data.chk, data_3d.chk etc...) to the Navcore.8.412.1236@tomtom.com folder.
TTHome is patched now!
Shut down the TT. Disconnect it from the computer. Power up the TT. There you go!
Connect it to computer. Run TThome, let it download those goodies. Now click on operate my go. Let it download the needed files. There you go!
And remember, once you have an SEnavcore installed in your device, you dont need to patch any maps that you install to your device!
tendriver 1st May 2009, 23:35 Please note that even though the audio line out is not working in the way its supposed to be in the 740 mode, there is a work around. Connect the audio lineout and use FM transmitter mode. The lineout will start sending signals for mp3 playback, but not for instructions.
TomTom discontinued lineout/FM transmit of instructions several Navcores ago. Reportedly due to European law.
neojohn 1st May 2009, 23:43 TomTom discontinued lineout/FM transmit of instructions several Navcores ago. Reportedly due to European law.
Yep. The "no silence transmission" rule!
Does anyone know of a solution to lower the signal level of the audio line out in tomtom?
Thanks.
Lurch3559 3rd May 2009, 19:25 If auto day/night is your only concern, leave your device as a x40 model and switch it with Voice Control, as I do. Once you have played with Voice Control, auto day/night will be a non-issue to you.
This was a great idea, thanks, will stick with using the voice command. Took a little time to activate the voice command but found the answer and it is working great.

There is no RDS/TMC via GPRS. Check wikipedia about TMC.
