Hi,
Here's what I've found out with my own testing on my phone.
1. The Situation
Several of my medical friends have approached me over the past few days about an issue that affects all Skyscape books. I'm having the same issue too.
Upon loading any book (eg. DrDrugs), here's what I see on my PDA screen:
Window title: "DrDrugs Expiry Status"
Message: "Your subscription will expire 01 January 2010. Please renew now to ensure uninterrupted access to product updates and Skyscape support."
Once I press 'OK', I'm brought to the usual book with full access to all topics. There is no topic lockdown or any change to registration code information. All features are still available, ie. Table of Contents, Index, Bookmarks, History, SmartLink.
2. Investigation
Every time you open a different Skyscape book within each day, the same prompt is displayed for each book. But if you open the same book (eg. DrDrugs) repeatedly within the day, the prompt is not shown. (By "repeatedly", I mean that the book was previously closed, not minimized... this can be done via 3rd-party programs or the native Task Manager.)
After switching the dates on my PDA back and forth, I notice that this prompt only starts appearing on 4 Dec 2009 (Fri), exactly 4 weeks before 1 Jan 2010. After skipping 11 Dec 2009, the prompt will continue appearing every Friday: 18 Dec, 25 Dec as well as 1 Jan itself.
From 2 Jan 2010 onwards, the following prompt will appear every day:
Window title: "DrDrugs Expiry Status"
Message: "Your subscription expired on 01 January 2010. Please renew now for continued access to product updates and Skyscape support."
After pressing 'OK', the full book is still accessible, exactly the same as before 2 Jan 2010. The full contents are still available as far as September 2010, after which I decided to stop testing. This unrestricted access applies to the 200+ books on my PDA which I tested. However, the prompt will continue appearing every Friday indefinitely.
Upon changed the date of my PDA back to 4 Dec 2009, I get the prompt again. Switching to today's date 6 Dec 2009, there is no prompt, as expected.
Each Skyscape book checks the date that the prompt appears and records in the Windows Registry. For example: "HKLM\Software\K2\DrDrugs\Preferences\TodaysDate", "HKLM\Software\K2\Harrison\Preferences\TodaysDate".
3. Conclusion
There's no need to worry!
The Skyscape books are still fully functional regardless of the date of the PDA or whether the prompt appears. If we read the prompt's message carefully, it is referring to "updates" and "support", not the product itself which is already installed into the PDA.
Although I've thought of ways to automatically dismiss the prompt whenever it appears, it's not practical to have extra software/scripts running the the background, potentially causing errors/hangs.
So in the end, it seems like that prompt will just be a weekly nuisance for a long time. But it's not as bad as having restricted access to the plethora of knowledge in these Skyscape medical books!
Anyway, let's keep our fingers crossed that it's all really just a benign issue. Whatever it is, I'm definitely making backups of all the books, and I suggest you should too.

Hi,
Here's a nice workaround method I just created.
I've put together an automated script to automatically dismiss the "Expiry Status" dialog for all Skyscape medical books on the PDA. The dialog will be cleared in 1 second, using MortScript as the scripting engine. Feel free to view my "skyexpiry.mscr" script in Notepad if you are interested.
1. Skyscape Expiry Dismiss.zip
Extract and run this cab file on your PDA. This will install 5 files:
a) MortScript 4.2
b) skyexpiry.mscr (installed to the \Windows\Startup\ folder so that it will auto-start on every reboot)
c) Skyscape Expiry Dismiss.lnk (shortcut in the Start Menu)
d) SPKeygen4.exe (Skyscape Unlock Key Generator; usage instructions are attached separately in this email)
e) Skyscape Keygen 2008.lnk (shortcut in the Start Menu)
2. Skyscape Expiry.zip
Use this only if you already have MortScript installed. This will install only one file. Extract to the root folder of the Main Memory of your PDA.
a) skyexpiry.mscr (this is the script, installed to the \Windows\Startup\ folder so that it will auto-start on every reboot)
Hope it works well for you. Do feedback if you encounter problems.

Dear House M.D,
I'm a medical student and I'm quite certain that many medical people find the Skyscape resources very useful. This "expiry status" dialog becomes irritating after awhile.
Please help me spread my script... both zip files. I don't have time to find and disseminate it to the relevant threads and forums. My exams are coming very soon.
Hope you can mention my name when you post this script please.
Thank you very much!

Nicely done - good logical inquiry. Thanks for the info and workaround, although for now I'll try to put up with the messagebox rather than another script in the background. I wonder if there will be a more integrated fix with a new cr4ck. tnx again.

Hi everyone,
I've just noticed that my PDA battery is being drained very quickly while my "skyexpiry.mscr" script is running. CPU usage for it hovers around 5-9%. That's too high compared to all other running programs which typically use around 1%.
For those who have installed the cab file, I suggest that you uninstall it. Then restart your PDA.
For those who used the zip file and extracted the script to \Windows\Startup, I suggest that you delete it. Then restart your PDA.
Feeling sad that I had to kill the script and stop using it completely. Battery life is more important.
Looks like we'll just have to put up with the "Expiry Status" message box. Oh well.
