Maps for Ovi Maps (Nokia Maps) 3.0

These maps also work on Ovi Maps 3.0 beta

Make sure to choose the right type of map. To check your version of Ovi Maps or Nokia Maps select "options" and choose "about" in Nokia Maps or Ovi Maps on your phone.

Update: someone on the Nokia forum managed to fix a "map layers out of sync" problem by allowing the maps application to go online once. Should you face the same problem, this solution may work for you too.

Instructions

Run Ovi Maps on your phone once before you add any maps or voices. This will create the required folder structure on your memory card.

Unzip the downloaded map files and drop them into the appropriate folders on your memory card.

On my Nokia the folder structure is cities with a subfolder called diskcache, filled with 16 subfolders called 0 to 9 and a to f, and each of these folders have another 16 subfolders 0 to 9 and a to f.

Map files have the extension .cdt. Example:

[memory card]\cities\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]\filename.cdt

• On some Nokia phones (like the N95) maps are stored in:

\Private\20001f63\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]\filename.cdt

• To install, just drop the 16 folders called 0-9 and a-f into the diskcache folder.

• If your phone has both folders, get a small map (for a single country) and try both folders to see which one works. Even Nokia's own map loader doesn't always get it right. Details on the Nokia discussion board.

• You may need to tell your computer to show hidden files and folders.

Thanks for transporting the links here Phoezies, I have mentioned that site many times in Nokia maps posts.

However - Those voices don't work in version 3.

Also, sometimes those maps are not the latest version, e.g. in the last beta 3 did not have 3D, I had to use maploader again.

But generally it's a good site, and a very good idea. They just need to update it more often...

Just copy again. The files for the new country are not the same, and the old country will not be overwritten, the new files will just be added.

But make sure that the maps are ok, read my post on the first page, I have found that these maps are not always up-to-date.

But I have one question regarding changing of maps.

For example, Country X is now running. Files/folders in my E drive are:

E:\cities\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]
and
E:\cities\diskcache\clientindex
E:\cities\diskcache\icons
etc, etc, etc

If I want to change to Country Y, do I just overwrite E:\cities\diskcache\[0-9, a-f]\[0-9, a-f]?

Do I need to do anything to other files or folders like E:\cities\diskcache\clientindex
E:\cities\diskcache\icons?

Links to the newest version of maps, 0.1.23.112, was posted in a Trashed thread here: [Only registered and activated users can see links] . However, what the original poster (tcell) failed to mention was which continent each link related to. I've helped him/her out:

172.zip - America (all continents) - 1.9GB (or possibly Europe)
173.zip - Africa (entire continent) - 118MB
174.zip - Asia (entire continent) - 832MB
175.zip - Australia & Oceania (entire region) - 153MB

I have calculated this by observing the URLs and filesizes at [Only registered and activated users can see links] Each country is allocated a number which is appended to the continent number, which is constant between maps versions. However, I am not sure how the administrator of that site nor tcell are obtaining the continent numbers, which change between map versions.

I'll start off with some of the country numbers:

Links to the newest version of maps, 0.1.23.112, was posted in a Trashed thread here: [Only registered and activated users can see links] . However, what the original poster (tcell) failed to mention was which continent each link related to. I've helped him/her out:

172.zip - America (all continents) - 1.9GB (or possibly Europe)

174.zip - Asia (entire continent) - 832MB
175.zip - Australia & Oceania (entire region) - 153MB

I have calculated this by observing the URLs and filesizes at [Only registered and activated users can see links] Each country is allocated a number which is appended to the continent number, which is constant between maps versions. However, I am not sure how the administrator of that site nor tcell are obtaining the continent numbers, which change between map versions.

I'll start off with some of the country numbers:

I've tried map of france (newer version) with Nokia Ovi Maps 3.01.4401. Done 1/2 short travels. Nothing special to mention. Everything seemed OK.

Sorry to say that turn-by-turn-guidance don't work on my N95-1 (FW 35.0.002).
Everytime it looks like it's gonna work but after a minute or so... Maps wants to go online and register etc....

Don't know what'I'm doing wrong.
I got Ovi maps 3.01.09wk44 b01 and got it from Nokia. (Correct?)

Deleted qf-file... un-installed licencemanager... re-installed ovi-maps again, downloaded voice-guidance while navigating and yipeeee...

I downlaoded 3 voices for the Map App
but non of them worked for me
it asks me to go online and download it
but my dudget low on mobile so, I prefer to download my stuff from the school internet which I am using right now.

I use Ovi maps on N95. And another thing.
Maybe the map isn't visible if your phone is not hacked....

Hi,
I would like to make easier your maps downloads of OVI maps. If try to download from Nokia site - it will take you several hours at least, or maybe even days.

Here you are the whole Americas file. Dated: 2009Q4.
It contains: AR, BAH, BRA, CAN, Cay.ISL, CHI, COL, MEX, PER, USA, VEN.
It contains only one voice: English female.

Just unrar and copy onto your MicroSD card.

PS. the .qf file is deleted from within the cities foldr you will obtain.
I recommend to delete the .qf file from your SD card root too.
Then copy the unrared archive, restart the device and start the OVI Maps application.

I have tried the link for Europe from the first post of the thread you have merged mine with, and it shows : 1.72Gb.
My link for Europe is: 2.22GB.
I think it is quite different.
Oner think more is my lins does not contain single coutries files. Only all mentioned as one file.

I think it will make sense for the people there.

As you know, 99% of Nokia Ovi Maps users load their new maps with Nokia Map Loader, they are free to download and you can download whatever map you want, if you don't have enough space no need for downloading whole Europe or North America. This thread is mostly for non Nokia users, witch phone don't get recognized by Nokia Map Loader.

That is weird. Did you select the same language in the Navigation menu? Do you see the SD card icon next to the language you downloaded. Maybe you need to turn up the volume a little bit.

Just delete old map directory and copy the new one, unfortunately this aren't the new ones, They are old. Use Maploader if it works with your device to get the new maps.

For example i have downloaded for India,
in old content 11415.zip & new its 17415.zip
Even the size is different old=50.2mb New=82.3mb
So i hope its new map content & its different from the old..

I don't know about India map, but let's say Roumania map has 9,9 MB and i just downloaded with Maploader a brand new map about 22 MB. I think it's a big difference. Maybe you should check it anyway, i guess a 121 MB map is better than the 82 MB.....

Connect your phone in PC Suite mode, and use the good old Nokia Map Loader, not the new Ovi Suite.

Ovi maps on the phone does recognize the maps. Great!

BUT when I plug my phone on my computer, Ovi Suite does NOT recognize any countries downloaded. How to fix that?

I downloaded into my phone a small country via Ovi Suite, and it does update the xml files on \cities\MapLoader\ (look at content.xml for instance)

So how to update these files from the content of the cities folder?

It's an old thread and was useful for owners of other phones than Nokia witch wasn't recognized by MapLoader and had a working NokiaMaps version...
