Adding Garmin .img Map Files To MapSource

WARNING: The map in this thread features the Chinese 'official offset' of 500m or more, so it is not usable in many devices. I believe ALL digital maps of china have the same problem.

This map may seem to work 'correctly' with the latest version of Garmin Mobile XT, but this is a 'trick', done by the software altering the reported GPS location to match the map offset!
If you load waypoints created in Garmin Mobile XT (or Nokia Maps) in Google Earth you will find that they are all in the wrong (offset) place! :what:

You can see the map offset problem for yourself with Google maps. The satellite image is in the correct GPS location and the traffic data is shown at the offset 'Chinese map' location:

Notwithstanding the above, the map can be imported into to mapsource using the following instructions:

Which requires the following software:

Couple of questions -
I have GarminXT Int. and City Nav Europe installed, can I add this too?
Is the offset fixed in this version, or is there any version with no offset that would work with GarminXT?

All you need to do to correct the offset is install the ASIAN version of Garmin GMXT. IT has the version number like: 5.00.10wp-ASN The ASN indicateds the ASIAN version. Don't worry cos this version also supports English text so English speaking people (like me) can use it for all the Maps. So i use it for UK, AUS, Europe, China and the World!

I downloaded the ASN version from Ipmart of course!

I think we got two different convrsations going in this one thread. the link above from Thompson is for the GARMI China map that has had the offset removed. Therefore can be used on any GMXT program.

Below is the Rapidshare link from the Garmin Taiwan site where i downloaded the latest "GarminMobileXT_5_00_30_WM_TW" version that allow all maps to be loaded and automatically corrects the offset. The map with offset corrected as above, can also be ued in this version.

If you already have GMXT version installed then rename BOTH the device GARMIN folder and the Memory Card GARMIN folders to something else (1Garmin) can do the trick.

Next unzip the file to your Memory Card. You should have a new Garmin folder, also a folder called 2577 (Auto Run folder). Also you get the FONTS, VOICES and VEHICLES folders to start you off if this is a first time install.

Go to the Garmin/Apps folder and change the GMSUP file to "GMSUP.TXT" this will allow you to edit it. change the contents to this:

[COMMON]
LOCAL_VER=CHINA

This is important as it stops the NAG screen (I think).

Then rename the file to "GMSUP"

Next go to the APPS/WM folder and open the file "QuePPC.exe" this should start GMXT on your device and also create the new GARMIN folder on the Device.

It does not install GMXT on to the registry so you have to create a short cut to this file on your memory Card to run GMXT from your today screen or hot button.

Copy any WPT file from your original device GARMIN folder in to the new GARMIN folder so they will all appear in the new version.
