Ok then, a GPS related curiosity !!! When the handset connects with GPS is it really a satellite you get connected with or there are terrestrial relays that you get connected to. You really get satellites. But signal depending of surroundings, buildings, trees around you, weather, etc. The device must"see" the sky and not just vertically...

Regarding the Israel map. When i browse the map to Israel it gives me detail but it does not appear in the addresses option (eg.in which state is the address?) i have a Samsung i8510 which i had used Garmin mobile xt before , it's work properly before. after i reset my phone and installs Garmin again, i can't use it anymore.It looks like missing the A-GPS itself. when i select using a-gps in Garmin system, it is keep on searching for the device. i go to setting =>general=>positioning=>posioning methhods, it shows only bluetooth gps, interrated gps and network based only. the Assisted gps is missing.
i hope someone can help me

Hi, I need some thoughts from fellow Indians using symbian phones, preferably Nokia phones.
I have used Garmin, Sygic, Google maps, and Nokia Ovi maps and I've found out that:
Google is most detailed; downsides are that it's not available offline, and has no navigation support.
OviMaps has best interface in terms of speed, responsiveness and overall usability; downside is address search.
Garmin and Sygic are about the same, Garmin has slightly better interface and Sygic has better maps. But both have very little, if any, advantages over OviMaps.
In conclusion, I find Nokia Maps far better than the others, but would switch to Google in a heartbeat if it were to provide offline maps with navigation support.
These findings however are from my own personal experience and could be very subjective. Having said that, I feel a great urge to find out why are people using these other applications.

Sorry to tell you but N96 isn't a very good phone. For better signal, use A-GPS and always open the slide, let the keyboard to "see" the sky.Nothing to do more than this.

You must use A-GPS. It will cost some, but not very much. Or change your phone.

No man, just the things a told you. If you cannot get satellites with the phone app GPS Data, than it's broken.

i Have N79 & i think its GPS is too slow.
i Have CRACKED OVI MAPS 3.03 installed in my mobbile with INDIAN MAPS INSTALLED.But the maps take a hell lot of time to get my position through the GPS about 3-4 mins.
So is it the GPS which is slow or is this the problem of the nokia maps. ????

I know it has man, but it must be enabled and you must have internet access. Just to register into satellites (about 4-5 KB).

ok.i Dint knew much about diff btwn aGPS & GPS, so thats y i keep u asking.
i Once tried to go online in OVI maps but it consumed too much of data about 2-3 mb, so i usually do not give it GPRS access.

hi,

I recently purchased a nokia 5800 - updated firmware and realized the gps maps is free, it was great with all the voice navigation and stuff. Everything responded very fast. The kb/s even reached 2mb.

But after a couple of days I started to get these problems:
1) the time to taken to receive sat signal/my position slowed down
2) the kb remains 0 even though there are 3-4 green bars
3) it sometimes cannot calculate a route

I am using the latest nokia firmware (v40) and ovi maps software (v3.1 im guessing). I am still new with the nokia and don't want to do much experimenting unless it's safe.

So someone who knows the solution to this gps problem please give a helping hand.

Yes, but do you have access to internet? Just enabling, it doesn't mean it ca work too. Did you tried another navigation software?

No voucher. It's difficult with R66. What OS use your phone? WM? Android?
But you are a lucky one, all navigation systems have good maps for UK, so, basically you can use whatever you want if it's in compatibility list.

What patch are you talking about? You know you have to hack your phone o have a symbian certificate to install any unsigned app?

My N81 has used up to 24MB and I just couldn't find any things inside!

For exploring phone? Nokia PC suite. But search for YBrowser for phone, it's signed and you can explore internal memory on your phone.

For viewing all drives, al folders, the hidden ones, you must hack your phone and use XPlore.
If you want to really clean it, make a hard reset:

Normal reset - *#7780# - restore ini files from ROM but preserves user data (photo,videos,etc.)
Total reset - *#7370# - restore "C" disk completely.
Reset without code requeste - turn the phone off; press and hold following keys: green(call)+3+*,and turn the phone on.

I have installed Ndrive onto my nokia n95 8gb, downloaded the speedcams, put in the folder, imported them through settings on my phone

But I was told it should automatically ask me to update, which it hasnt, I just took it on a test run and it didnt warn me of any cameras despite me installing them

You have to be more specific, what version of garmin, what you have done, etc. Garmin working good on 5230.

I used GMapTool with cGPSmapper to convert finalized gmapsupp.img back to MapSource maps. And it goes without problem.
But when I go to Mapsource (6.15.7) there is no map showing in the window even though it shows that the map is unlock and chosen.

It runs great on 5230, so, the only conclusion is that you didn't installed correctly. Most of users say they did, but often it was just a little mistake that ruins everything. Read carefully and do it right.

first problem is that my phone wont start in data transfer mode , reporting
"unable to activate data transfer mode. memory is in use"

Well than:
Use PC Suite for transferring manually the files. You can use the standalone version from this thread or you can open setup files with WinRAR and transfer the files.
But problem with Mass storage is annoying. Closing all apps doesn't solve the problem You have to check the processes too. I had the same problem when i used psiloc Xelnex Lite, no matter where i installed, internal or mass memory.

Choose "connect to garmin GPS"
Than you can cancel the search and go to "about" screen. That's it.

i had no problem while i was using Garmin 4.20 version with 2009.06 map. now i use version 5.00.50 with 2009.12 map. But i have some problems. I am in the same city. I use the same route. But it takes to go to my target 1 hour. It was 20 minutes with my old system. When i slow down or stop my car, Garmin is out of order. It show me nonsense routes. is it because of new version or new map?

Map give the informations to software where to make the routes. You can try the old map with new version of XT and see what routes it makes.

I still see Indian map, & when try to search for some place in Hongkong, it searches for the places near my position only. Even search for the particular place in Hongkong, gives no result :(

I have Indian maps saved as GMAPSUPP.IMG, Hongkong map as GMAPSUP2.IMG & Thailand map GMAPPROM.IMG

Before selecting only Hongkong map ( map I want to see), all the maps were checked.

Please advice, how can I check if other country maps are properly installed & to see if they are showing the places I intend to visit..

I have n95,instaled "Nokia_Ovi_Maps_v3_01_4401_9_2" its the only sis file, after installation when trying to open that it just asked for switch beTWEEN the online or offline mode,but after selecting either of them it closed itself.though i have not installed any OF MAP TILL NOW AS THis is not working,so please can u tell me the solution for this,or give me any specific nokia ovi map version for my n95 which is latest and working ?thanks in advance.

Right now OVI Maps free version isn't available for your phone (including many other ;)), though some users claimed that the modded version did work for them.. it didn't on so many too..

To remove it, you can't uninstall it simply but you have to remove it manually.. Here is the thread that will help you to do so..

You gotta wait for some time till Nokia will release a supported latest version for your phone, till then you got to use only the cracked one available for your model..

There is no free version available till now for your phone, and yup, you would miss come features if you use the old ones but that is the only option you have right now.., well certainly there are cracked versions that will work for your phone..

hi. i was wondering if you have any info on this. i live in taiwan and my favourite nav app is sygic. i hope that aura will be released soon with updated content, but until then, the last map update was 2009.3, which is missing loads of roads. i accidentally found sygic for the iphone with a 2009.9 map, which i put in the map directory, successfully unlocked, but then got an error message. is there a way to trick the prog and use the map with a nokia 5800? thanks in advance

@hegezoli, What ver. of sygic do you use? the map you have should work (i don't have it at hand, but iphone sea maps work) check your *.mlm, viz. for v8 it should content something like this " maps=TA:WORLD:2020.10". actually, if the date in *.mlm is valid, you don't need to unlock new releases of maps, just replace *.pak's.

I don't know if i understand what you mean. You want to use your phone as a navigation device? You can, of course, first look witch have a good map for your country and witch is compatible. I guess garmin will be the winner.

You cannot i think, it's made especially for your country. I don't know anything about this, but i guess if you try with a firmware update and still the same, your phone doesn't have GPS module or it is disabled from hardware. Buy one from outside your country.

Is there any way/software to save a map location in PC and then transfer/export/sync it to GMobile XT on my phone (5800)? I'm tired of the application crashing whenever I scroll thru the map manually to search and save a location.

In Ovi Maps, I really like the fact that you can save a location on the internet via ur PC and then sync it to ur device (rather than struggling on the tiny screen of the phone), but the map isn't detailed enough as in Garmin. Thanks in advance.

I did some research of Mapsource, and I think it's too complicated for me :P...
but I did manage to get my own workaround though:

1. Go to [Only registered and activated users can see links] and select ur new waypoints/locations/landmarks etc. (This website creates a route though)
2. Copy the GPX line/command provided to notepad and save as .gpx file
3. [Optional] I use EasyGPS to remove the route line created by the website and leave only the waypoints.
4. Either: rename it to current.gpx and load it to Garmin GPX folder in your mobile, and then Import it in GMobile XT, which will appear directly in My Locations,
5. -OR- Use Garmin POI Loader and load it to the mobile as POI.

I prefer the first method though, since the locations are saved to My Locations...
So, if by any chance the Maploader method is much more simple, please please please teach/guide me how to use it. Thx!

I think Mapsource is much simple. You have on the upon bar the tools for selecting what you want, costumized with icons, and after that you send it to your device. Much simple...

Ovi maps v3.xx, is there a way to make it work on the Satio???

I have tried a lot of versions, but my Sony Ericsson Satio S60v5 is not able to finnish the installation because of the message "install the base package first".

WTF? does anybody have the "base package"?

PD: my Satio is not hacked (due to the rubbish update I cannot hack my lovely Satio), but I have my cer and key.

I personally installed Garmin XT v5.00.50 on E72 an i was impressed how good it worked, so, i guess you did something wrong.

I had symbian device previously and using GarminXT for running Pakistan maps. Now I changed it with HTC HD2 ( windows 6.1) currently and I have no clue how I run pakistan map on this device and which software require to run pakistan map. Please don't throw this mail. I don't know how it works for Sygic, but i used weather feature in Garmin and it works great. Just try it, worst scenario - it won't work, nothing else will happen.

If you have Garmin also, you can use weather online without worries, it work fine. For other features you must pay.

hi,i have question about garmin xt,i have installed version 50.60 its activated with keygen 1,5 and it is nokia e71,and the phone easy find satellites connection,i was download (north america 2010 city navigator CNNANT2011.10 3d unlocked gmapsupp.img ) unlocked and the size is 1.2 gb after that i just rename that file to gmapsupp.img and copy into garmin folder on memory card beside base map,so i have base map and second north america map,and the problem is that i cant see north america map in mapsets and only see basemap and cant open field adress in aplication garmin xt to finds any street the mesage says "detailed map are required to use this feature" what i am doing wrong?i can also look and search on the map all major roads and citys and navigate to them but i cant reach field adress?

Far as i see, you did OK. Maybe the map isn't good. Open Garmin, tools/manage my data/map sets and see there if it shows detailed map beside basemap. Where did you get the map?

no it doesent show detailed map only base map,i wil bow try to delete base map and rename a detailed map from gmapsupp.img to gmapprom.img and see whats happen in that way i am downloade from pirate bay

Guys I need some help. I tried to install Garmin XT on my E90 but when I start garmin I get the startup black screen with Garmin logo and then app dissapears like it wasnt even started. Any ideas ?

EDIT: After few days of trying I managed to start Garmin and unlock it.
Now to get the maps ...

i have a question..why is that voices downloaded off the Garmin site are not recognized GMXT eventho it has a VPM extension.
i have copied to the correct path (mem. card)\garmin\voice\
tried restarting fone and garmin but it is still not recognized.hmmm..

p.s. it would be nice to have dr.nightmare reading out the directions for a change

The fact I'm using old TomTom with f** GPSd trick to enable internal GPS, with 3 years old maps, cause I don't have fast connection to download huge maps from all navigaros and test them manually.. so I would ask you:
Which is the best between Garmin, OVI Maps (could I use them without internet connection?), NDrive, and so on? Which has the best accuracy/recent maps available?

Garmin: stopped symbian support(soon will be like tomtom with better maps)
NDrive: need more time to develop some needed feature
Nokia Maps: pretty good, very good maps, updated, but new versions don't have support for old v3 devices.
Sygic: very good, fast, continuous developing, very good and updated maps, lane assistant, speedcams, light, run smoothly on N82, tomtom clone, etc.
You choose, also wait for others opinion, can be different.

I've got following problems with Ovi Maps. I've installed it on my 5530 XM, on memory card, and I've added also map of my country.
First problem: it took about 14MB of my phone memory. How to recover it?
Secod problem: in setting I chose "offline" mode. But it's still connecting to the internet (but not by wlan), downloading something (I don't know what, I've got Polish maps downloaded) and taking my money :(

Please help!

Different people different choices....5800 means S60V5, almost same as my i8910HD, I use Ndrive and Garmin & both of them work like charm with me...i used both of them in india and middle east and got great results....both Ndrive or Garmin can be found on our forum with working maps and cracks....if any link wont work for you ask me i'll upload maps of india once again for you (both Ndrive and Garmin)....have a nice time mate!:ilove:

Garmin, Sygic, NDrive. All can be found here in this section. All have pretty good maps for your country. You have to choose:
Garmin: very good, but not so friendly interface and they stopped support for symbian. Only new maps will be available in the future, not new version of app.
Sygic: very good, friendly interface, quick response, easy to use and with MapMyIndia very good coverage also.
NDrive: it get's better and better, good maps, good interface, but i don't consider it mature enough, they still need to implement some needed features in it.

Hope this helps, now, you have to choose.

Garmin: read the post above, but very good coverage for your country too.

NDrive: read the post above, but has good map for your country too, not so friendly and not so easy to be activated for someone not familiar with this.
NokiaMaps: gets better and better, now also pretty good coverage for your country (Nokia owns Navteq now, so, they work hard on it) and runs smoothly on your device.

Now, your choice, hope it helps. But you need to do some readings for it...:D

I don't think it's a matter of navigation system, the best for you is witch have the best map. If the map for Mauritius is important, than go with Garmin.

Set it to "pedestrian", only this way will do it in the traffic limited zones. It's quite normal...

I knew it...but it is not an effective method, because it do not consider directions neither allow to define a complete route (miles from destination 4x)...for example, if I would access a TL zone during a time slot in which access is allowed, I cannot do it...

After i've installed the Helloox2 and then run it.. it seem to stop halfway and seem to do nothing butkeep saying INSTALLING ROOTSCERTS.. before installing theHelloox2 i've already hardreset the phone.. do i need to install the helloox2 to my phone memory instead of memory card. and install it without the memory card? Yes. After unlocking, GMXT will recognize other BT receivers than garmin.

I am using an E71 with Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.50s60.9 and i only get a bar of signal outside, and inside none. I know that my GPS works for sure, because it worked before i hard reseted the phone. Before i did that it had also garmin installed but i can't find the same kit or map it used.
Could the hard reset be the problem? Or maybe should i find another map?

I have an X6 16 GB and can't start Garmin 5.00.50/60. During installation, it informs me that the software is not compatibile with the phone, but it finishes when I choose to continue anyway. After that, whenever I click on Garmin shortcut, all I get is a splash screen and the app just shuts down. Do I hard reset the phone and install again? Maybe it needs to be hacked? Or something else?

I've tried everything: reflashed the phone, hacked it using PNHT method, reset it a few times (hard & soft), tried different Garmin versions. Still no joy. Two whole days, a perfectly set & calibrated phone and a bunch of installed programs I had lost because of this. I'm giving up. It's not worth it.

Read carefully instructions and follow them, Garmin works great on E72.

Thanks for this reply but I'm sorry I think I posted in the wrong place. The problem is not related to GPS or any navigational system. Its just something that happens anytime I switch off my phone and restart it again. Not a problem. Check if you have a big size theme installed, often this will give you that problem. Uninstall other themes, let just the default ones and see if it happen again.

Hello, Iam using Garmin 5.00.60 standalone en-gr version on my Nokia 5800. Earlier it was working absolutely fine. I used it for atleast 1 month, but today suddenly I'v started facing a weird problem. Everytime Iam launching the Garmin XT, its getting crashed after showing the black screen welcome screen. I'v tried formatting the card and even the phone but still facing the same problem. I click on the Garmin and it crashes after showing welcome screen for say 2secs :confused:
Can anybody tell me that all of a sudden, what had happened to Garmin ?

I've got some problem with Garmin too.
My spec: 5800 and GarminXT5.00.60.
So, my issue looks like this: with Network Based option ON I have no problem with gps range, but when I turn off this option and start garmin again, there's only one red bar and can't find any satelite, can't use gps.
aGPS option is activated by the whole time.

Dear Sir....I managed to install the garmin in my E72. Thanks a lot. I copied a map from my previous phone but the map consists of two map under one file (gmapsupp.img) which is :

PID 59, FID 5061, MSM Borneo v3.04 - PID 60, FID 5062, region 30,0

It's very easy, just use procedure described here:

Create an unl file where you put both unlock codes - for both maps - given by keygen, without any space between, you will have a 50 numbers code (2x25).

hi.. I need help from you IOJI. Sorry for bad english. So, i have garmin on 5800 flashed phone and it works well but if i turn off the phone and turn on again it wont turn on. It starts but when i have to enter PIN code it turns off. If i remove the sd card(8 gb if it helps), turns on with no problem. And after that i must format the sd card. I really need your help man. I really want to help you, but i don't know for sure how. It seems that your problem has nothing to do with Garmin (GPS system). I guess is something wrong with your phone maybe. I didn't turn of my phone in the past 6 months and i never put on PIN code, it's useless, if your phone is stolen, probably it is on so, the thief can make calls. Use a Black List program and you won't need to turn off your phone. But first, try another sd card and see if it's doing the same way. Good luck.

It never seems to alert me of speed cameras. I´ve downloaded cameras for Sweden many times, restarted the phone, but it never works...
On my other phone, an E71, it works perfect!

i've tried also another sd card and same problem. Maybe it's something wrong in garmin folder sw.unl file i'm sure it's ok but the rest i dont know. If it sais that the map its unlocked i dont need to create a code for it or something right? I dont think its something wrong with my phone cause i dont have any problems with it, just this one. thx and if you could help me to share how it should look the garmin folder for 5800 or i dont know ... Did you tried without Garmin on SD card? Try without it and see if it does the same.

Not sure this is the right place for this question, but, I am wondering about the user experience for Garmin, OVI, tomtom and Sygic on a Nokia E72 in Europe. Are the maps all equivalently updated and detailed? Which of them is the better software for non assisted GPS?

I currently use Sygic v8.06 with maps 7.8, and am in need of updating (too many new roads, changed roads, addresses, etc.)

One ideal function would be to navigate to a point of interest along route (example, find or highlight total petrol stations that are along or very close by to my route - my version of Sygic is no good at that, but then again, it is old as hell).

Also, I'm a bit confused on which maps. Reading and searching on the forum, it seems Sygic can use Navteq maps? Is this correct? Are these any good? On a steep learning curve here ... Thanks for your guidance!

I cannot give a general opinion, user above you is blessed, live in Western Europe, he can choose, all have very good maps for his country. You, like me, aren't so blessed, we must choose the one who have better map for us. So, for Ploiesti, the winner is...Garmin. Not very often updated, maybe once a year. Next, Sygic, but the new map has lot of bugs, they need to work on it. Last but not least, OviMaps, very good map, not so detailed but it will be.

iIf you don't want data charge, disable A-GPS from phone menu, disable "go online" from Ovi, go outside and wait for it.
Or you can use Sygic with MapMyIndia. Best choice.

Does anyone know how to install the speedcam files available on the Sygic web site? I copied each cam file in the respective country folders in maps (/maps/deu/deu.cam for example), but I don't know how to have sygic recognize them, load them, warn when near cameras (they don't show up in sygic's POI list). I followed a tutorial and installed garmin ver 60. After shut down the phone dont start up. Just lights up some time than goes off again. After a fresh install of garmin and not open garmin menu the boot up works normaly, but after i use the gps and then shut down the phone dont boot up. Which is the problem ? First time works then not? it's generated a file or something after first use? I dont know what to do i dont have any more solutions.

I found the solution for my big problem at the end. All i had to do was to create a garmin folder in phone memory and copy SW.UNL file from the sd card in garmin folder on phone memory. Now its working normally. I'am so happy. Hope this solution will help anyone who'll have a problem like me. Thx for support.

After installing Sygic mm 7.71 on my Vivaz the applications appears to not find the internal gps. In the phone menu only internal gps is enabled. If I try autodetect nothing it still does not find it. I have read about similar issues from others but do not remember the solution and searching did not help. Anyone?

I have installed Sygic 2010 v8.22 on my E52,

I have 2 issues and i'm sure you can help me get out of this..

1. I cant delete place i add as favourite, even if i delete them, it is deleted once but when i enter back to that screen again, it apprears as if it is never deleted. Bro which files stores this data to delete them manually as the delete does not work from application feature.

2. How to disable speedlimit warning that appear in navigation screen, as i edit any setting in the advance settings, back light problem comes. i have to then restore default settings and in default settings, speedlimit warning is enable. what file do i need to edit to disable speedlimit warning manually from the outside. i have checked setting.ini but there is no configuration for this. i dont want to stick with back light problem. For your ready reference, screenshot is attached for speedlimit warning.

Last time i using gamin, when i restart my device total can not open,
i remove my sd card only can open or i uninstall the garmin only can open my NOKIA C6.

Using Garmin on Nokia N8 (after 3 years on N82, working fine). On N8, Garmin seems to show only portion of screen in landscape mode. Strange, only map renders badly, menus are fine. Do you know any workaround (more than 'use in portrait mode')?

Hello to everyone! This is my first post, and just wanted to say that this is a great place for my Symbian phone, lots of good stuff!

But, I have one problem, and I think is related with Garmin. My phone is Nokia 6120c, and works great, never had problem with it until I installed Garmin. I'm not sure, but as I remember, from that day my stand by time is only about 2 days. Before was 4,5 days. Is it posslible that some process from Garmin drains battery? I have instaled Y-browser, and read on some other forum that there is 2 files named: TSRAutostart.exe and cardrunner.dll and these two I must delete after every usege of Garmin and batery will last as it should. I deleted 2 files, but my batery still lasts for almost 2 days.

Any advice?

After installing v5.0.0.30:


Turn OFF your i560
Turn i560 back ON
Launch JBak Taskman to see if TSRAutoStart.exe is running in Memory in Menu -> Tools -> Processes even though it's set as DISABLED by default in Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services.



If TSRAutoStart.exe is running after i560 is turned ON, do this:


START GarminMXT v5.0.0.30, goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to ENABLED.
EXIT GarminMXT, re-start GarminMXT and goto Tools -> Settings -> System -> Launch Background Services and change to DISABLED
Turn OFF i560
Turn ON i560
Launch JBak TaskMan to check that TSRAutoStart.exe ISN'T in Menu -> Tools -> Processes


Now:


START GarminMXT v5.0.0.30
EXIT GarminMXT
Launch JBak TaskMan to check that TSRAutoStart.exe ISN'T in Menu -> Tools -> Processes


Now, you should find:


TSRAutoStart.exe doesn't start when you first turn ON your i560
TSRAutoStart.exe now CLOSES automatically when you exit GarminMXT v5.0.0.30

It appears that GarminMXT v5.0.0.30 when being installed, doesn't create the DISABLED entry and has to be done manually by setting to ENABLE, then DISABLE.

I think this maybe Garmin's FIX to the battery drain problem.

Earlier today, somehow new E72 crashed, it wasnt responding so i removed the battery and restarted it. But since then the red recording light on the back is always on, it's killing me and its really frustrating, its consuming my battery a lot... Immediately after i put the battery in, the red light goes on, even after i turn on the phone !!! Has anybody else had a similar issue ?...

the red recording light on the flas is always on... even if the phone it's turned completely off...the light remains on... it's somehow directly linked with the battery, since the minute i put the battery it goes on !!

Tried Sygic8 and loved its userfriendliness... Sadly, Sygic doesnt seem to support capture of route or i am unable to find these features in sygic.

So I have E72 and 5800 navi edition and Ovi maps on both magically stopped catching satellites to route me. E72 worked like a champ last week. ANY ideas what may be up?
