I have the previous version 5.00.50 on a N95 8Gb and is working really nice. As far as i see improvements on new version are mostly for 5800. Should I leave my old version???..Has anyone upgraded to 5.00.60 in N95 and seen any important differences??
Tested and got back to 5.00.50. Stick with it, better choice.

Hi all,
I just switched from v_xx.50 to v_xx.60 on my N96, but my problem is not related with sw version but in the fact that my phone does not want to detect satellites at all.
In the Tools, settings, general, positioning, positioning methods I disabled all but INTEGRATED GPS (is this ok or?). When I switch to ASSISTED GPS it manages to catch few satellites but as far as I understand Assisted GPS connects partially to network so it can bring some charges (I live in Bosnia so it is rather expensive to surf via phone).
If someone had this issue which BTW started when I changed my outer-casing of my phone koz it got too dirty and I wanted to change it...
Any suggestions please let me know I travel a lot and it is getting frustrating...
Thnx

First of all, go back to v5.00.50, it is the last official european version, the other is asian version artificial made for europe. Second, A-GPS use gprs just to log on into satellites, data transfer is about 5 KB to get signal in seconds. And third, N96 is not a very good device, sorry to tell you. At N95 the antenna is under keyboard, if it's the same at N96, the keyboard must "see" the sky. Now that you have it, you must squeeze everything from it...

ioji, thnx for reply m8. I have seen that "charge" is only 5kb when started as assisted compared to just integrated gps ( I hope that is only charge for assisted gps, 5kb I mean)...So as I understood well you suggest to open keyboard, leave assisted gps in options in order to get better lock on satellites...will try
One more on the matter: how would you grade N97 koz I had a chance 4 a sweet deal on this baby but I passed it, and I agree on N96 rating. Compared to my other N95 it is total sh*t in picture quality, video quality and soud reproduction vise...

even worse than n96i am afraid in regards to gps. i know when i was there this summer kept losing the connection all the time. good thing i had n85 with me (brought it with me to bosnia mainly for voip so i can call canada for free but it saved the day with navigation as well). think they improved gps shielding on newer builds after week 36 (september i think) but never tested how much if any improvement there is.
speaking of gps reception and s60 your best bet would be i8910 omniahd in combination with garmin or nokia maps.
speaking of surfing in bosnia packages werent that bad in comparison with canada. difference being that people earn less making that price outrageous. pay per use is a ripoff in any country. how is that 3g coming along. this summer 3g was pretty crappy not covering even the whole capital let alone rest of the country. worst thing was that everywhere else in the world you go network defaults to 3g automatically and in bosnia it defaults to edge even with strong 3g signal, making you have to force switching to 3g. hope they fix those issues by next summer if they did not by now and im definitely getting data with voice package rather than using ultra (killled me).

Yes, but if you loose signal, or switch satellites, the phone will use it again. A long trip with 0,1-0,5 Euro tops, i don't think is too much. For me, 1MB=0,9Euro+1024Kb. You see, how many times i have to log into satellites to spend 1Euro.

Something doesn't seem right with this version...
Anyway doesn't work on phone with latest Symian OS such as E52.
Upon launch, it shows the Garmin screen on black background, but exits to phone menu after 2 seconds.
Sticking to .50 here as well. Works like a charm.

Hi... I am facing unique issue..
GMobileXT starts & closes down. I have tried installing as per Standalone version..
INSTALLING GARMIN XT MOBILE FOR FIRST TIME
1) Just copy Garmin and other folders (if present) to root of mmc (so e/garmin , e/private etc will be the final directory)
use the standalone versions!
2) Then install the Garmin sis file

As i often said, v5.00.60 is asian version and was artificially made for European users by this forum members using some elements from previous european version. They did a great job, but the latest official european version is 5.00.50 and it works very good. You won't see any improvements in v5.00.60, maybe some problems....just to have a higher number in version...You are free to use whatever version you want but, from experience i have, i suggest v5.00.50. Good luck.

I think Destinator is the best, but you can also use Garmin, you have from where to choose more than one map, very good coverage for Greece. Now, Navteq and Teleatlas have full Greece maps, so you are lucky, any GPS system who use maps from this two major providers it has good coverage for Greece.

Indeed, what a compilation, many thanks!
Am awaiting a Nokia 5800 Navigator.

From where you live, both are good, with up to date maps, don't forget it home for garmin (USA). You have to compare interfaces and use the one you like more. My vote goes to Nokia Maps.

Garmin looses money with XT, not making it. V50 works great 5800 and N97. But the map shouldn't be too big and the details to "less".

But you are lucky, almost all symbian navigation systems have good maps for your country. For me, just Garmin, old Sygic and now NDrive. guys, do you have any idea how to go about coping the "My location" files to another new device?
Cause I just upgrade from N82 to N86 and there are quite a handful of places in the "My location" section. I would like to move over to the new device.
Any advise? Thanks.

guys, do you have any idea how to go about coping the "My location" files to another new device?
Of course u can transfer all your My Location files, its easy.
1. All you need to do is to transfer/copy the whole 'Garmin' folder from your old MMC to the new MMC card, without leaving a single file behind.
2. After copying the needed folder from the old to new MMC, the next step is to reinstall the *.sisx file accordingly to your previous Garmin XT version.
3. Start Garmin XT after installation and all your data's from the previous phone will reappear including all your saved My Location spots.
I did mine successfully from my old N95 to the N96 and later on repaeated the steps again when i changed my phone to the N97. It Works!
Hope this helps mate, good luck!

Anyone know whether the custom poi and speed camera function are working on this S60V5 5.00.60 version? When I opened the Extras, clicked the Custom POIs, it said "None found.", and I did not see the speed camera function. My phone is N97 RM-507 US version, has upgraded to the newest firmware.

I have now tested Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.60 and 5.00.50 on Nokia 5800xm and Nokia 5230 both with the latest firmware.
Conclusions:
-5.00.50 seems to be a little more stable in Browse Map mode [ thats the only issue I fund so far with Garmin XT ] but it will freeze anyway in about 5 minutes [ versus 3 minutes in 5.00.60]
-5.00.50 has a problem with filling the screen in Landscape mode. As a result both side of the screen will be grayed out for 0.2'/5mm instead to be filled with the map or menus or any info. 5.00.60 doesn't have any problem in Landscape mode, it will display the image correctly
The problems mentioned above were observed on two Nokia 5800xm unlocked/unbranded and one Nokia 5230 T-Mobile [all US Version]

Yes, you still have this option...there is no difference in menus & options between 5.00.50 and 5.00.60...only 5.00.60 is performing better in navigation mode...better rendering in Landscape mode...that's all I was able to see.

To ioji, nicesoni_ash, all Mods/Users
In regard to: the above mentioned link to Garmin XT 6.00.10
Guys, please stop killing threads and sending them to trash, even if they look weird or like spam or even if the stuff posted looks like something that was already posted.
Many of you know (by reading this thread or others) that I usually don't speak unless I really know what I'm talking about and that's because I usually test the applications or new settings before writing my own impressions.
Also Garmin Mobile XT seems to be a pretty good GPS appl and many ppl might still use it on a daily bases.
Giving all the above why not test for a while the latest Garmin XT 6.00.10 and than draw the line? It didn't happen, the thread was closed right away just because there is no official new release on Garmin website and because the appl looks suspicious and has no owner. That might even be against the ipMart policy (I really don't know...:criminal:). Actually based on what I found inside the Garmin folder structure I would say that the owner must be russian.
Because this is one of the last good GPS apps for Symbian I believe we should give it a try. I did it already and I can confirm that the maps are now loading much faster. But the most important is that the appl doesn't crash every time in Browse Map mode.
5.00.50 is crashing big time in Browse Map mode and it doesn't fill the entire screen in Landscape mode
5.00.60 is crashing big time in Browse Map mode...that's all
6.00.10 NO more crashes, no problems in Landscape mode, fast map drawing/rendering
Before, in 5.00.60 in Browse map Garmin XT was freezing after about 1-3 min of zooming in & out, sliding map and never happen to be able to zoom out more than 80 miles.
Now in 6.00.10 I managed to zoom out up to 120 miles and it DIDN'T crash and after 20 minutes of Browse Map mode there was absolutely no problem.
And yes, the maps are now rendering/displayed faster than 5.00.60.
There is only one thing I need to figure out...if the 6.00.10 is draining the battery faster or not, comparing with 5.00.60. That is not a major concern for me giving the fact that I usually keep the phone on charger while navigating...and there are no changes in menus or other options.
For all those who never had any problem with Garmin XT I think there is no reason to upgrade. You would rather spend your time for better/newer maps.
Anyway, 6.00.10 seems to be stable and solve all my previous problems, so far. Unless there s a trojan virus embedded in this version by russians the appl gets two tumbs up from me (not like I'm a pro here on ipMart...:exactly:) :yourock: and some Repp+ ...
UPDATES - July 19, 2010
I finally managed to crash the 6.00.10 version by creating a route, starting the navigation and than going to Browse Map mode and zooming in & out continuously. Even so it didn't happen right away, it took about 15 minutes to crash.
The battery doesn't seems to drain faster, no faster than the other versions. That being said I believe I would stay with 6.00.10 for now to analise the performance even further.
One last thing for all Mods/Users: Is there anyone who never had any problems with Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia 5800xm using North America maps? I might be the only one having problems and I don't know.
Thanks all.
PS: to guardtroops
There is nothing worthwhile in arguing with Mod's. Some times (most of the time) they are helpful and they know what are they doing/saying and at least for that we should give them credit. Even when/if they're wrong and you're right they might feel disrespectfully when someone else ignore publicly they're opinion without prior consulting them.
It's unlikely you will win any battle against them unless having the same privileges.
Keep up with good work and don't stop sharing...and stop arguing with Mods, please.:)

That's weird...
X6 have the same specs (except for the screen) like Nokia 5800xm and 5800 is running just fine Garmin XT.
Check this link for specs, compared side by side [Only registered and activated users can see links]
If indeed X6 is not compatible with Garmin XT thats pretty bad. Maybe we should more into Windows Mobile devices in to the future...I don't know, but is sad...TomTom quit Symbian long time ago, recently Garmin quit too, iGo still not interested in Symbian...no to many options left :suicide:

Try this [it may work or not...it's just a thought]:
First, copy the content to the memory card (folders, files)
Second, install Garmin XT
If you first install and than copy the content it might be possible to overwrite some of the installation files...it happen once to me and the program didn't started at all.
When copy the content connect your phone to PC in Mass Storage Mode. This way you can access some folders that otherwise are hidden.
Good luck! :good2:

As i often said, v5.00.60 is asian version and was artificially made for European users by this forum members using some elements from previous european version. They did a great job, but the latest official european version is 5.00.50 and it works very good. You won't see any improvements in v5.00.60, maybe some problems....just to have a higher number in version...You are free to use whatever version you want but, from experience i have, i suggest v5.00.50. Good luck.
not true. The Garmin v5.00.50 map was very distorted in landscape mode on SE VIVAZ but the GARMIN v5.00.60 works great.

didn't want to install this one yet. but can anyone verify that google local search works for USA? the 5.00.50 had it disappear as soon as u locked on
In fact, for me, the "Google local search" worked until very recently with version 5.00.50, something like July 2010. I could not remember exactly when it stopped working for me, however it was recent since I am researching the problem as "Google local search" disappeared last week, and I used it regularly. What I noticed was, the subscription said something like " trial" before, and now it says "free". So I guess Garmin changed their check on server. I did not know why I had it for so long, however it is not working now. If I do a uninstall and reinstall, local search will work once and disappear after connect to garmin server once. :(

How to install Garmin v5.00.60 (all files are uploaded separately) :
1) Download this pack ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) (8 MB approx.) and overwrite the content into your memory card:
2) Go to Memory Card/Garmin/Apps and delete gmsup.ini.
3) Download the updated SIS file here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) (5 MB approx.)
4) Now you have to download the "Base Map" from Garmin website, put it into garmin folder, then choose your desired map and use the keygen to register Garmin and its maps. that's it!
If you have already installed Garmin prior version, you just do NOT need to do step 4.
cheers!

Then I deleted gmsup.ini file in [root]:\Garmin\Apps on the memory card. I experienced the exact same thing that you described. Garmin started up, then shut down. Does your copy of Garmin v5.00.60 work on the other phones that you have? If not, then your copy is corrupted. Download another copy.

Well, it didn't work with my 5230 either :(

Here's how I got it to work with my N8.
Delete the gmsup.ini file in E:\garmin\Apps
Select Bluetooth GPS option to get to the main menu
Select Settings (wrench icon)
Select Settings again
Select About icon to obtain your unit ID (top number)
Use keygen with the unit ID number to generate an unlock key
Paste the unlock key in a text file and name the file sw.unl (no file extension)
Copy sw.unl to the Garmin folder on your memory card
See first page about adding the maps.
Working for me now :)

You have to set the program to keep the screen "always on"

I can't find Greek text menu for 5.00.60 or 6.00.10? Is there a possibility to use Greek text language on menus?

Thanks folks,
Finally I got my Garmin to recognize the internal GPS.
But I could not get to the About screen when I installed. ( Installed a standalone version )
So I checked the GarminDevice.xml in the Garmin folder after installation for the Unlock ID.
Then used the KeyGen..
Now gotta get it properly configured. :)
Wil post other doubts ..

Hello!
I do have exactly the issue you did mention. Did you solve that?
My unlocked XM 5800 is an *RM-428*, firmware version V 51.2.007 (date July 22, 2010).
I did test all Garmin Mobile XT versions are available in forums. Version 5.00.50 and 5.00.60 freezes after some navigation but 6.00.10 works better, lasts more without freezing and draws faster, but also sometimes it hangs. My free memory ("C:") is 70MB!
It seems to be something related with map detail. With only gmapbmap.img it never hangs browing the map but adding Venezuela map it hangs as described.
Opposite to what would be intuitive, using all max detail it seems to lasts more time without freezing. How? Maybe it is not a video issue but instead the algorithm used to remove the map detail which hangs because a memory full or slow cpu.
Sometimes when I create a route it crashes but I still hear the voice guiding me to the destination.
I did hard reset the phone and the behaviour is the same.
Someone did solve this issue? I don't care which version of GMXT, all I want is a working Garmin!
Thanks!!!
