well the only way to unlock the phone is woth the unlock code at this time. u would have to get it from the provider or pay some one like 30 to get it for u google g1 unlocking

Why do you need to unlock? The G1 is Open Source and can't be locked?

i dont really know, but might try googling "turbo sim" this guy that unlocks phones uses it. i dont know what it's about. it's like hardware unlocking or something. or.... before u buy it. tell the guy who is selling it to call t-mobile and get it unlocked. tell him to say "i'm going out of country, can u unlock the phone so i can use it there?" or something along those lines.

Do you have root? If you do get advanced task manager from market or here and it will let you kill tasks running in the backround

Or use the back button if the game allows it to leave, or see if the game has an exit option. The home button is bad as it doesn't close any app.

just long press menu button, you'll see the applications or games running, then press 'c' and select yes to kill that process. Or simply use task manager for this purpose..

u gotta b more clear dude.is the apps on ur pc or phone? what?sounds like your phone isnt mounted.after u plug in your usb go to notifications . press usb then mount.hers some other stuff that might b helpful
1.first off u need to find u a file mananager off the market best suited for u i use appmanager
transfer to sd card [card must b mounted if still in the phone]
use your file mngr to install app. u'll have to go to settings and change your settings to allow outside market apps

Ok I do have OI file manager on my phone (been had that). Now im downloading the hello IM from the "official helloim" thread and never mind its actually letting me download them now? Ok but still when I go to drag them into my phone nothing happens so idk if im supposed to make a folder specifically for these apps or if my sd card is a problem or what?

its the emulator which has inbuilt gameshark. but gameboid doesnt support it till now. perhaps it'll be implemented in a later version

If you root your phone, you can install different images.

Install the Jf ADP1 and your phone will be unlocked

Currently the only way to do a carrier unlock (which I'm assuming is what you mean since you're taking it out the US and into India) is to either get someone who already has had T-Mobile for a while (I think it's 90 days, but I don't know if they enforce the limit or if there really is one at all) to request an unlock code for you for free or to pay someone online to do it. They usually cost about $20 if you buy them online.

I know there is a request thread, but I didnt know if I had to post it there...

Apologies if I am in the wrong forum for this. I am on day 3 of the 5 day full trial of exchange by Touchdown. Each time I try and sync the calendars I get a notice that says it will first remove all calendars on the phone and then sync it all up on the next update. (or something like that).

Anyone know what i am doing wrong ? Our Exchange server is 2003 and the version of touchdown was downloaded to the phone from [Only registered and activated users can see links]

You can use a Task Manager app like Taskiller or Advanced Task Manager.. you can end all programs or exclude apps that you want to keep open all the time.

Anyway no need to kill application, system will kill unused application for you when more memory is needed

Recently I have been having problems with my G1, firstly I constantly recieve force close message in the Market when searching for anything. On occasions this happens every 2 searches I do.

Also every so often the phone refuses to boot up sticking on the opening android screen, the animation stops for a second after 30 secs or so then the screen goes blank and the android boot screen returns. I find that I am havin to hard reset every couple of weeks.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening here.

sounds like u might have alot of stuff running or starting up altogether.or might just b one funky app fng things up. try taskiller or task manager to see what is running on ur phone. autostart might help too. give market time to load up i guess

Sounds like a bug in your build. I know I have a issue if I search market find apps then search again it says found apps yet will not display until I go back to main screen and try again. Download cyanogen builds using cyanogen updater in market or go to androidspin.com (you need root to install these builds) What I would do is backup all my apps&data first then if u have apps on ext3 wipe using lucid -c in terminal boot into recovery hopefully u have cyanogens 1.4 version for recovery then install either cyanogen 3.8.1 (stable) or the newest experimental build 3.9.7 thats what i use 3.9.7 cool features

I have a Unlocked Vodafone branded Magic and I use CoPilot Live 8 for FULL GPS navigation because all the maps are stored on your SD card. It is the best for Android.. there is none better! I also use Cardar, GPS Tracker & Google Maps. You can download all of these from the Android Market.

for you i think only menu of phone is the thing but my dear , there are lot of other thing which can be done other then menu browsing only .... i am still laughing that you are assuming me that i cant find the google market icon from my phone menu
the thing is my phone is totally unbranded and for that kind of thing one have to flash the phone , called rooting of HTC magic with voda / roger roms that will make my phone having the google integration in it . FYI only

is there any way to install apps from android market direclty on SD card, ... how to do that because its killing internal memory of phone...... while there is a lot of memory present at SD ..... wiht no use.....

You'll find a lot of information on the forums at XDA regarding Apps to your SD card, new themes to replace the bland stock one, and a lot of small little features you probably won't even use. It's a good forum but easy to get lost.

Quick Google search XDA, find your phone and look at how to do it man, hit me up if you have any issues.

I have a problem with CoPilot, I can't install it. NDrive works good though.

So I am trying to install it through USB connection but I have some problems.

First I have win 7RC with eclipse SDK for android.

Under device manager tab I can see the my USB connection to the device and it is called "USB Mass Storage Device" if I try to install "android USB windows" drivers, it says drivers up to date and it won't let me install it.

I belive I installed the correct driver when I installed Eclipse. However if I run cmd as Admin and then i write "adb devices" I can't see any device on my list.

And if I try to install an app it says "error device not found"

the SD is mounted.

Any idea?

how did you manage to install android_usb.inf modded drivers on Windows7? i can't do it as it doesn't support installation of .inf files as Windows XP used to do it. Even if you uninstall Android drivers than W7 installs and then connect device again the W7 automatically install it's own drivers staight away and it's impossible to stop it. If anyone could suggest how to install android_usb.inf driver on Windows7 would be more than thankful as it's the only thing that prohibits me from installing .apk files from my PC to phone.

I know what you mean...I couldn't figure it out for a bit...however I uninstalled the driver for my usb where it says USB Mass Storage Device. Usually everytime I plug the android in, win 7 recognizes the device and automatic install its driver.
And until here it happens to you as well.

Now the important part.

Put your device into Debuggin Mode "Application->development->debugging mode" and when you plug in the device, this time it still recognizes the same USB port but not the drivers for Android Device icon which appears in Device Manager if Debugging Mode is on.

At this point you right click with your mouse on android device icon in Device Manager and you choose the right driver!

why not use Installapk.exe is a lot faster. download app to desktop, connect phone to computer, double click app. i have been using it for about 2 months, and it works beautifully.

Using a lot of widgets can slow it down, but without more info no one can really help you

I am using to make calls the default app from my Magic phone. With that i use NOT CALL LOG PREFS.
That kills me, because the app is crap.
The app updats the calls log very hard, often i touch the wrong person in the list.
I tryed CONTACT BLAST 1.8 but it force closed every time.

The messaging along with other progrmas that came with your phone is built into your ROM.. in other words you cannot delete or uninstall it without rooting. Just use handcent.. it's updated regularly and I use it to :)

I've tried many dial apps for the same reason (I was calling the wrong person) and none was as good as the default. All of them have drawbacks. I concluded using the default app and acontacts to access my favourite contacts with just a touch.

Hi all the Hero's owner.Not sure you have come across the issue of "apps force close continuously appear" on the screen,and will only back to normal after you restart it.

fyi, i rooted my hero with Modaco ROM 2.8 Core Chinese, and after that I face the apps force close situations continuously until I restart it.... It does have bluetooth but the clarity is reduced marginally in that..
Although I haven't tried my phone in particular but bluetooth in general just doesn't feel good in the bass department...

My guess is that it has to do with your phone, not the car system. (if it worked with your iphone, your car has a usb host, but the galaxy's drivers are not generic)

In theory, usb drivers could be integrated in a custom kernel, but I have no idea if someone worked on that.

i have same problem with querty009.. my sgs cannot connect with my pioneer, but winmo 6.5 xperia 1 connet like a charm with my pionerr.. i tried a lot apps like auto mount and dual mount, still no clue till now.. but i hear that my friend htc desire can connect with his car audio system.. _sigh_ it would really nice if sgs can connect with my car audio system..

By OC you mean overclocking?
If so, you can't. Your best bet is to root it and look for a custom rom, since you need a kernel supporting overclocking.

after root you can overclok to 768MHz using setCPU(and overclocked kernel) but few ppl have problem with booting and stability.

I have no experience with the galaxy S, so I can't be of much help there. Hopefuly, someone will provide some feedback.
With HTC phones, flashing an official OTA update on a rooted phone creates a nice brick in most cases (it can be recovered, but still...)

I don't know about the stock rom but this is a common issue among custom roms..
If you can look around the xda forums for better knowledge maybe something helps which enables you to solve the problem for anything specific ask again.. :)

Skype was said to work with the front camera (or the normal camera if there is no front camera) for video call on android 2.3 but I didn't get it to work on wildfire 2.3. Hope gtalk will work, it would be awesome :)

Video calling does work with fring-to-fring right now, I've called a friend from my android to his nokia N86 on fring, worked really well (although I didn't have a front cam, but there is always the mirror solution ^^).

Gtalk would be the best way to do it, for its tight integration and the possibility to (video) call desktops.

I did try Fring video chat with a buddy but had problems..
So just for voice chat I prefer Nimbuzz,seemed to get better clarity than Fring.

Well I've used fring on all my symbian devices but it just doesn't cut it for on the android platform..
Other apps are much better..

However I do have another question, how do I delete words from my skype dictionary "PERMANENTLY"..?
I mean I can delete them once but everytime I reboot all of them are back and it's a pain having names of people I know popping up in my messages when replying to someone very quickly!

So, I flashed my phone to get android 2.3.4, then I flashed the gtalk app since it wasn't included in the ROM.
Got mixed results. Voice call to PC does work, I tried a video call with a nexus s ->the video kind of worked but without sound (the 3G connection on the other side was bad though)
Will post an update if I manage to get better results.
