hi
i have a western digital 250gb sata external usb harddisk. recently, its been acting funny. when you copy items to it, it copies slow and stops after copyin 2 or three files n gives an error for the rest. it refuses to format on windows 7, but formats on xp, though it still has the same copyin problem on xp. i have tried a disk check, but the computer hangs when i try that, that is on both xp and windows 7.
i was thinkin there maybe some bad sectors, and since wndows cant check and correct it, i might need some other application. what should i do? what would be the best application to check an external usb drive?

external disks are not reliable
copy your files , and buy a normal harddisk

you could try lifeguard

did you try check disk in safe mode?....you can also use windows to check the health of
the hard drive...by right clicking 'my computer' and go to 'manage' ...from here your device
manager and services can be accessed etc...you can also use windows from to check you
hard from the by clicking on 'disk management'....

another good hard drive app is 'hard drive test pilot' it checks you bios and hard drive errors
