UltraMP3 Skinning

How to create your own skin for UltraMP3 Player:

1. Edit existing, or create new following images:
· "skin.pcx" - main background image
resolution: 176x208, 8-bit palletized

· "spr.pcx" and "spr_a.pcx" - sprites drawn over the background

both are 8-bit paletized images
these two images contain sprites and their transparency masks
do not change positions and size of sprites, because they are read from predefined rectangles within image, and if you draw outside of rectangle, your sprite will be cropped
there're two files - rgb color, and alpha mask (grayscale, with 5 grades from black to white)
this is optional element, and if not present, default sprites are used

Note: this skin tutorial ships with images in PSD format, which contain hidden layers that may help you to design your skin. Useful layer set in "skin.psd" is named "Components", and this defines size of each component (the size cannot be changed), you can change the position of components, and adjust the position in "skin.ini" script - see next point.
In "spr.psd", there's hidden layer named "rects" which define positions and size of sprite rectangles - these cannot be moved or scaled, and your sprites must fit into these rectangles.


2. Create component definition file "skin.ini"

This is a text file with definition of components - their positions and colors. You cannot change the positions of components (e.g. song name, volume bar, etc) in the skin.


3. Pack all these files into one zip file
All the skin files must be in the root directory of the zip.
- you may use any compression level, the higher the better
- change extension of final zip file to "mp3skin", e.g. "MySkin.mp3skin"



4. Upload the file into your mobile, and click on it in inbox
The player will be run, and will copy your skin to its local directory and install it afterwards.

After installing, you may safely delete the file from your inbox.



5. To change current skin, run the player, and use menu to select different skin.


Reference files:
· skin.psd – working image for background
· spr.psd - working image for sprites
· skin.ini – script file for skin
· ferrari.mp3skin – example of final skin, you may look what’s inside of this zip-packed file


WinRAR ginamit ko sa pagzip ng files, set compression to 'best'.. choose .zip as extension to zip the files then rename it to .mp3skin.

pwede niyong gamitin yung bloodbath.mp3skin to start with... rename it to .zip and extract the files.

to d'rcoastre: if you don't have a program to edit images use paint to make a 176 x 208 sized *.bmp file and save it with irfanview as skin.pcx.

OK once again...
if you open a skin with winrar it looks like this pic and there you have got four files- skin.in(it says where the buttons have to be on the screen, what coulours the titles are...) - skin.pcx(Backround) spr.pcx & spr_a.pcx(Volume bar and Buttons but it doesn't work if you change them, it will only bee shown if you replace the files in the Ultramp3/res folder)
and if you use paint (or an other program) and you can't save it direktly as *.pcx-file, then save it as bitmap and use irfanview (search for it in google) to save it as skin.pcx. By the way *.psd is just another image file like *.pcx.[/img]

your P900 has a bigger screen! Open one of your default skins with winrar and edit them on your computer just like them for S60. i think this should work.

i use photoshop sir.
accept 2 of the ngageZman skin, i draw the figure with coreldraw first then colouring and effect with photoshop.

you don't need to use only RGB colours! I've never used them and my skins also work!

Im confused, how do you make the .ini, spr.pcx and spr_a.pcx files?

Ive tried so many times making a skin.pcx in adobe photoshop and then it doesnt come up in the player. I use the other files (above) from different skins i found here . Is this the problem? If someone cant explain this to me then can someone make some for me. (I wil give you the images).

drag the files then right click choose "Add to Archive" and choose best and ok. after that rename it to redwing.mp3skin..

Note: be sure the you uncheck the Hide Extension name in folder option in view tab..

Very good skins in the last time but I recommend you guys to make skins for oggplay. You have a much bigger variety of options to make skins (buttons, sliders, analyzer, ...)

dont rename the file. u must unzip it first and send it via bluetooth. after u receive the message, open it and it will install automatically.

I have been trying to make my own themes for ultramp3. I havent had any trouble using any of the ones i have downloaded so i decided to make my own. I followed the guide, and have all 4 files... the 3 images and the ini, and i zipped them and then renamed the zip file to *.mp3skin. Once copying the file to the skins dir on the phone, i ran the application, and changed to my new skin. Instead of bringing up my new skin, it just brought up the default skin, but it said it was my skin. I dont have a clue what i've done wrong. The ini was a copy of another skin and the pictures were all in the correct format and the correct size. Help please?
