The WEP "security testing" software could not be run.

1) The set up of the Wireless usb adapter went all right, either in my desktop or in my laptop. Both were able to detect available networks.

2) The BT3 set up was impossible in the desktop after rebooting with the Linux and BT3 CD. Message of "wrong media" in the CD drive so PC starts normally with Windows. ( That was the reason to try the laptop )

3) In the Laptop, apparently the set up started normally. After a Linux set up presentation, suddenly, we see the first BT3 GUI window for a very short while, then Linux 2.6 continues to set up which takes abt 3 minutes. When it finishes, it shows a Linux screen ( Black) with a "Welcome to Backtrack 3 final" message. "The system is up and running now" Log in as "root" with a password "toor"...
Then some linux command suggestions and the prompt to log in.

I presumed that I got Linux 2.6 mounted, set up and running, without any graphic interface. But no way to see the BT3 application.
Both Desktop and Laptop runs Windows XP Sp3. (although I have a virtual machine running Ubuntu in the desktop)

I wonder if someone in this forum could give the clear picture of my failure?
I am a newbie in this matter so, may be I made a big mistake... Or, otherwise... may be the software that came with the box is crippled so the set up is incomplete ... :wrong:
I thank in advance for a light.

Rgds
