This is how it is done:

In the address bar of FireFox, type: “about:config”

In the box marked filter, type: “keyword.url”

Double click the value field and modify that value, by pasting:

[Only registered and activated users can see links]

Then save that by pressing “Ok”.

Now, you can use your address bar just as google search bar.

does not sound very handy ;

if you want to copy a full link , you tell google to search for it , ....???

better click on icon in search-bar ,
and leave address-bar alone

this is a one time exercise. you can use the address bar to google search once this setting is done.
added advantage of this is that if your address bar search engine is changed from default setting of google to yahoo, then you can easily set it back to google. (happened in my case)

also, many applications while installing change the default search engine. that is when this trick comes in most handy. :)
