I'm living in Singapore and i've just went to Nokia Care Centre to upgrade my 7610 firmware. The new firmware now is version 4.0437.4ch, 15-09-04 RH-51. Some changes in this firmware T9 dictionart problem solved. Yon can now save your words even if you restart you phone. .amr files now will not get cut when you play it. Plays smoothly. New key functions. Left key and right key can now be assigned to practically start any program in your phone. During standby, your up, down left and right keys can also be assign to shortcut into other programs. Practically all bugs solved. Go update now if your country has the firmware.

Thanks for the info siaoz85. I just checked with few Nokia Care Center here in M'sia. Too bad, they don't have new firmware for 7610 yet :(. Am currently using 4.0424.4ch, 12-06-04. Really can't wait to have the shortcut key enable.

By the way, did NCC reformated your RS-MMC as well? If yes, any idea what's other changes they put on the RS-MMC card? I meant, in case you have previously backup the entire RS-MMC card using card reader.. and do a comparison :). Thanks again for the info.

I don get wad u mean. Norm NCc will only take ur fone n upgrade the firmware inside. Ur rs mmc, sim card as well as ur express on cover will b return to u to keep.
So ur mmc wont b affected and progs installed in ur mmc card will b there as well.

Does anyone hear know if these new firmware versions affect the phones ability to play ngage games ? I have original v 4.0421.4 22-05-04 rh51 and are considering/wanting to upgrade. i have 18 ngage games all running at the same time on the phone which took some work sorting libs etc and are concerned the new firmware might mean the end of my games. Anyone know the answer as it would be mega appreciated !Cheers in advance...

siaoz85, thousand apologize for making you confuse on that. We know that few applications come preinstalled on the RS-MMC card by Nokia, especially those Chinese version of N7610. One such example would be the Chinese-->English dictionary. If I'm not mistaken, few more apps on that too. Am wondering if NCC would copy new stuff to the RS-MMC while doing the upgrade (i.e, new version of Chinese-->English dictionary, etc). But from what you said, it sounds like this particular upgrade won't have anything to do with the RS-MMC :).

Is it worth the effort,risk of destroying phone and cost to upgrade firmware yourself? 7610 is barely a year old so most are still under warranty and firmware upgrade is free

I'm thinking of taking my Nokia 7610 phone with 4.024 firmware flashed to the newest so i get the better camera quality... but i don't know how i would approach them to do this

I cannot understand why this question keeps on coming up although so many post/threads deal with it already.
It is NOT WORTH the cost,effort and the risk to upgrade the firmware yourself.If your phone is a 7610 which is still less than 1 year old I am sure(it came out about April 2004) then it is FREE to upgrade at any Nokia service center.
I have witnessed how it is being done.The battery is removed and on its place is an adaptor connected to a box which takes care of the upgrade.The whole process took about 20 minutes. I asked the technician what happens if there is a power failure,etc. He said no problem he just had to start from the beginning.
Well if you do it yourself and something like a power failure happens what will you do?

good point my friend. anyway for those who want to make it for themselves the firmware can be found on nokia software/firmware section. no need for this topic and for users to spam it.
