Remove current version and try version 1.1.5-1 from here ([Only registered and activated users can see links]). Download files and install them with command dpkg -i *vlc*.deb

how to download the files????

If you would like to download with N900 you must tap and hold your finger/stylus on each link (file) to get popup menu, then just select "Save link as".

Open X-Terminal and go with "cd" command to the location of dowloaded files, then execute already mentioned "dpkg" command.

OMI

yes need to install all
download the files and copy them to to n900 data folder
open xerminla
sudo gainroot
cd MyDocs
dpkg -i vlc_1.1.5-1_armel.deb

and install all files like this way

AFAIK you must install all files which contains word "vlc" in its name. That means all files except one (python-xcbgen_1.2-1_all.deb). So, if you run dpkg -i *vlc*.deb it will do the job for all files at once.

Here is link to the site ([Only registered and activated users can see links]) where these files were built.

Works great Thanks :)

Noticed that the audio seems to work fine if the phone is not set to silent (or similar).

Wonder if one can change specific settings / create playlists etc. in later builds.

Works like a charm. Thanks buddy.
Couldn't get the icon to work or update to the newer version, but hey, if it's not broke why try and fix it eh.
For the people with the no sound problem, just take your n900 off silent.
