Hello,

i have a Windows XP computer.

I have upgraded this year:
RAM (additional to previous one)
Power Supply
Hard Disk for more storage (additional to previous one)

However i do not know what has happened and if the above are the fault or not, but now when start windows after a certain point the computer freezes for 2 minutes.
This usually happens about 3-4 minutes after startup and the mouse can move around the screen but it the computer does not load anything.
Initially when i placed in the new Hard Disk, it was taking a while to load folders in the hard disk, but when i disabled indexing this stopped.
Now i have this problem - that it might be from the power supply but i am not sure, as it starts only at the beginning.
Is there anything else i can change for the settings of the new hard disk in order to check if first that is the cause of the problem?

Thanks!

upgrading hardware dont cause this

# computer freezes for 2 minutes.
does it work normal after that ?

my idea is some software running in background [ update or something else automatic ]
i assume you have no virus or other malware

try ;
right after startup PC ; open task-manager
go to processes tap
show process from all users
in main field click on memory so sort order

now wait 3-4 minutes and see what happens
[ look at the names in the left side ]

if something shows to heavily load CPU or memory ,
check its name , startup type and description

see something suspicious ? select and end process and see what happens

ok thanks,

yes everything else runs smoothly after that.

I was thinking maybe the disks that i installed work somehow in the background at start of computer. That is why i disabled indexing, but i dont understand what else they could be doing.
Will check what you indicated through, thanks.

never used indexing
think its one of those weird mico$oft brain artifacts

if the hesitation starts after a while , and than stops after while , its not hardware
its software , doing something
may be harmless , but , if it eats resources it better be stopped
