Apache Mission (JAVA GAME)
All that can be said about Apache Mission is that it's just another simple side-scrolling arcade with an helicopter instead of some odd space craft or something. It's not fun as the 'Choplifter' clones around, and not innovative enough to help being compared to it.
The game offers you three different choppers to choose - from a small, faster one to a bigger, heavily- armoured flying machine (although they don't seem so different on the device's screen).
As an Apache chopper pilot, you are taken to missions where the primary objective is making as much points as you can by destroying enemy targets and (eventually) rescuing a couple of John Does laying in some building
The game includes an 'autofire' feature, for those who can't stand moving the craft and firing at targets at the same time - although it's not a real issue on the easier levels, when the enemies are in small number and very scattered.
The game presents three different scenarios (desert, jungle and town), in a total of 15 missions, full of different enemies hanging from aircrafts to tanks, bunkers, trucks and even other Apache copters. Although there are many different kinds of enemies, they all seem to be surprisingly dumb - you'll probably see some planes passing by throwing bombs to the ground (what the hell are they trying to hit?), and tanks firing at will before you pass by them. AI would have been a little worked out on this title.
You can change weapons pressing the '1' key - the game presents you three different choices, hanging from unlimited machinegun rounds to a short supply of rockets and air-ground bombs.
Gameplay is good - there are no slowdowns on the game, and animations run smoothly. The overall game interface is simple and responsible - but nothing more than that. Another (very) annoying bug is related to the sounds: although I had set the sounds 'on' on my 7650 device, I couldn't hear a single 'beep' during all the gameplay. Oops!
All in all, Apache Mission is just one more game to go. Not bad... not good.
