View Full Version : GBA FOR SYMBIAN S60
hyperhacker 8th June 2005, 16:31 TRY THIS ONE OUT. its only a demo!!!!
TRY AND TELL ME IF IT WORKS
Usage:
SIS package includes only .exe file, so you should use Fexplorer or browser to execute in E:\System\Apps\vBag\vbag.exe. You should put rom file in path E:\System\Apps\vBag\1.gba . Your mobile should have enough memory for loading rom.
Key map:
'1' - A
'4' - B
'2' - Sel
'9' - Start
'7' - L
'8' - R
RightSoft - exit program 8) 8) 8) :D
AliCaN 8th June 2005, 17:42 i cant believe it...its working..but slow..i hope they can improve it...thanks man great post..should be sticky..
and there is no sound
chicaman 8th June 2005, 17:45 Hey, how u play?? there isn't any icon to get to the game?? can u teach?
AliCaN 8th June 2005, 17:52 he told that already..you have to open fexplorer and go into e:\system\apps\vbag\ and then run vbag.exe
it will only start if you have a rom file named 1.gba in that directory..
jabond 8th June 2005, 18:53 There is also version for 4096 colors. Here is the link:

hyperhacker 9th June 2005, 00:51 HEY "ALICAN'' what mobile do you operate?!!
barbara 9th June 2005, 01:08 where are the roms?
jabond 9th June 2005, 01:42 It's working in my QD too! It played all games that I put in my mmc: Need For Speed Underground 2, Driver 2, Asterix & Obelix XXL, Mario Kart, Super Mario Advance. It's slow, but it works! Some of these games are 8mb big. I will try even bigger games to see if they work!
chris_ve 9th June 2005, 02:09 It's so great!! i can't wait for final retail version!!
hyperhacker 9th June 2005, 02:19 we must wait for a very good result!!!
seventh_plug 9th June 2005, 07:08 i thought that mobile phones doesnt have enough power to emulate GBA. Well this is a good improvement. Maybe the reason why its damn slow coz it doesnt have enough processing power. Few optimization will improve its performance thou.
ponting 9th June 2005, 07:11 can any1 post gameboy advance roms ?

barbara 9th June 2005, 12:23 anyone got this working on a 6600?
when i unpack the sis file (vbag2.rar for 65536 colours), I indeed get the file "vbag.exe" in the folder E:\System\Apps\vBag\vbag.exe
but when i open the file vbag.exe, i get the message "App. closed Main KERN-EXEC 0!"
what am i doing wrong?
please help me
EDIT: I made a directory "1.gba" myself (with FExplorer), where I put the roms; is that normal? or should the directory be made when unpacking the sis file ('cause with me it didn't)
thanx!
FolkenFanel 9th June 2005, 12:24 Works on 6630 :) :)
GREAT!!!
Just hope speed will get improoved! But i don't think we will be able to play all roms (as is for vnes).
But remeber, the old wise man said: a bit is better than nothing :) :) :P
heh... i guess life is full of surprises.... who knew a gba emulator would be possible....... still... it would be nice to play some of the bigger files.... cos those are mostly the cooler ones.... well... we'll be waiting for the final version when it comes...
ItalBoy 9th June 2005, 14:08 I think that GBA roms will not be possible on actual symbian. This alfa version says that serie60 have not enough power to run correctly GBA roms
killing_you2 9th June 2005, 14:25 Pls smbody upload any roms!!
wkyoong 9th June 2005, 18:48 Wow. So the impposible has become possible at last. I havent tried it yet. Is it really slow till it interupts gameplay? Or is it only a minor setback? Hope that one of u great series 60 gurus will be able to come up with a fix :)
Asdone 9th June 2005, 21:32 what is the correct version for the ngage? I try the 4096 colours but i've received an error "App closed Main"
milnaug 9th June 2005, 21:59 i cant see any 4096 colours version here..
milnaug 9th June 2005, 22:04 It's working in my QD too! It played all games that I put in my mmc: Need For Speed Underground 2, Driver 2, Asterix & Obelix XXL, Mario Kart, Super Mario Advance. Which version are you using for your QD?? I can't see any 4096 colours version.

jabond 9th June 2005, 23:14 what is the correct version for the ngage? I try the 4096 colours but i've received an error "App closed Main"
Here are the possible reasons for that:
1. You should put rom file in path E:\System\Apps\vBag\, and rename it to 1.gba.
2. You must use Fexplorer to start emulator E:\System\Apps\vBag\vbag.exe. Some other file managers like FileMan will not start emulator.
3. N-Gage/QD can run only roms upto 8mb size. Because of RAM memory. Most of other phones can run only roms upto 4mb size, because they have less RAM memory then N-Gage/QD.
tsipfel 10th June 2005, 00:57 Is there a way to rotate the screen?

Hai mate rename the roms to 1.gba...and run the program..it work try it... :)
hyparzero 11th June 2005, 03:52 This app shows the difficulty in getting GBA games to run on the Symbian Platform. Although it does run very slowly, it is unlikely that the app will be developed further until better Revisions of the Symbian OS are released with more powerful handsets.
But most of the problems lie with the Software, or the GBA application itself. Developing with the Symbian OS is much more restricting than say with Windows. Even GBA emulators for Windows XP, on a dual AMD Athlon 64 with a Radeon X850 cannot run some games at full speed.
stingray1059 11th June 2005, 10:55 tekken advance dont work.. it gives me "app closed main"
lendltan 11th June 2005, 12:13 For GBA roms, head here
h**p://[Only registered and activated users can see links]
This site has just about all the GBA roms available, and all other roms as well...
But beware, it has alot of pop ups, and the first thing you'll see is porno advertisement... But close the windows and you get your roms... Lots of them... But the porn ad appears on every page so it's kinda annoying... But it works so who cares...
hypochondriac 11th June 2005, 14:32 thanks a lot everyone it works! its very slow but its just nice to see it on screen!
ajai_dev 11th June 2005, 19:04 It"s like a dream come true :D: CRACKERS PRAY  and vbag works by generating a 16bit alteration from 32bit :D: so the orignal game of GBA will need twice the processing power :D: but series 60 phones processers are more than powerfull to play these file :D: but the decompiler of 32bit games is unstable  and thus the time taken by it is longer then the GBA decomplier :D: the patten that is the games are encoding in also varies :d: that is a problem too  GBA has 128 Kbyte Vram and 256 Kbyte wram as compared to ngage Qd the ram size is 374 KB section :D: and both these have to be done in a single RAM part  Thus 128+256 is more than 374 = Bottle neck :D: As far as the colour is concered the GBA can show 511-526 simultaneouly where as ngage can show 350-425 colour"s simultaneouly and for high end phones such as 6630 there is a problem with the decompiler and the colour remake  ....!!!! It is the best that 6630 or 3G supporting set be used as these set"S have ARM9+ processers { 220Mhz } which are best for 32Bit game"s alteration"s.....!!!!!!!
Addi 11th June 2005, 19:12 Do this app work on Ngage!Any 1 tested?
wkyoong 11th June 2005, 20:26 It works for my Nokia 6670. But its really slow. The games are displayed horizontally. This really causes frustration in the controls of a game. But its a really good start to bringing gba roms onto the symbian smartphones :D
tsipfel 12th June 2005, 01:27 Here you can find a lot of gba roms for free, dont need registration. :D
[Only registered and activated users can see links]

English plz :? ..we don't understand what are u talking about...yes ajai dav said 4096 is for n-gage mate...
soul814 14th June 2005, 04:41 aww only 8mb games is there a way we can play larger sized games in the future? cause like ngage games r like 32-64mbs n we can run those, in the future u think we can run bigger gba sized games?
I think we should wait for the full version of this emu.... :) maybe it can run bigger GBA rom size...
kokeng_taka 14th June 2005, 05:32 I had try "Gundam SEED Battle Assult" and it working. Me think vBag is only work for 8MB file size rom. Me try "Yu-Gi-Oh Expert 3" (16MB) got error msg.
ray4u 14th June 2005, 09:56 i tried nfs underground 1 & 2 for GBA and both give me an app closed error on my N-gage QD . anyone else facing similar problems ? i have renamed the file to 1.gba ..but it still doesnt open !!!
Is the NFS rom is bigger than 8MB mate....it doesn't support N-gage QD..
nokkia 14th June 2005, 13:34 does it support zip files? cause yugioh championship tournament 2005 ( 16mbs ) it's only 7,82 mbs zipped!!
No mate u have to unzip and put gba rom in the vbag folder
ray4u 15th June 2005, 00:20 the nfs rom is exactly 8mb. dunno why it aint running .
jabond 15th June 2005, 02:15 You must start the emulator from fexplorer v1.13. Other file managers don't start the emulator!
plant 15th June 2005, 02:49 That`s incorrect mate! I`ve got "system Explorer v1.7", "FileMan v1.01" installed on my 6630 and on my 6600 I even got the"Profimail explorer", "SeleQ", FExplorer v1.13 + the two first named apps.
ALL of the works with Vbag!!!!!-THOUGH, I can`t play roms over 4mb even on my 6600...THAT`S STRANGE.......!
jabond 15th June 2005, 15:04 Sorry! I have FileMan v1.03, Unteh SymCommander and FExplorer v1.13 and it only works with FExplorer! You can't play bigger roms because 6600 have less RAM memory than N-Gage!
zzgazezz 16th June 2005, 08:20 hi~! i downloaded the vbag1 for my ngageQD.. by following the instruction using the Fexplorer to open the exe file... cannot ler... it shows application closed wor..
how??
matze 16th June 2005, 09:11 try to name your rom "1.gba" and no folder ... this way you can play one rom... you understand???
no directory , the game named 1.gba you put in /E:/system/apps/vbag/
fiendishmortal 18th June 2005, 12:10 bros hav u tried flight mode of system tools it releases processor and ram up to 12 mbs does it do for that?
hyperhacker 18th June 2005, 13:25 fiendishmortal you are right!!!! i will try it right away
simz_1987 18th June 2005, 16:14 Man this app is awesome, just played on metroid fusion can't wait to see the next update of it
tjh1987 19th June 2005, 10:58 How to do flight mode of system tools?
fiendishmortal 19th June 2005, 18:56 look its really simple but listen carefully and do anyhtin i tell without askin listen_download system tools install crack then open it youll see flight mode there open and your phone will shut down progressive with programme then when the phone is shut,REMOVE ur sim card then open da phone when it opens it will show activate flight mode or sth alike next when the phone opens ull see that it opened in a different way dont worry bout it it has just disabled phone apps and many things alike then open file explorer gba.exe if the file opens it should just be much faster cos it will have 2mb free memory and should run .gba much better but this is only sth that i suppose that ll work i aint tested yet cos i had reaaly heavy exams anyway if it does than have fun
By da way i have a theory bout increasing the speed of the emu:If someone could make a convertor like a video or blz or alike compressor and compressed .gba roms and make the emulator in such a way that it will use only the part that is required to run the scene not the whole rom than it could even be increased to full speed of the .gba and could run much bigger games like sims urbs in the city but i just cant inform da developers cos i dont know how to but if they tried this than they could be much succesful cos it would use the free memory in an optimized way and make n-gage a gba playing device by this way
-------------THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY--------------
hypochondriac 22nd June 2005, 03:24 Ok I downloaded system tools like you said for my 6600 but flight mode does not seem to work it just says insert sim card hmm a problem you could help me with? its version 1.71
gynko 25th June 2005, 04:25 you must rename the ROM on 1.gba, don't make a folder... rename the rom on 1.gba and execute vbag.exe... they runs, i've tested it on 6600...
fiendishmortal 26th June 2005, 17:52 1-Whats da result?
2-Brother are u sure that u selected flight mode on system tools i try it in stools 1.41 or sth like that and it was workin anyway u already cant run gba roms on 6600 cos it has very limited processing power i think u should give up or buy an n-gage CLASSIC NOT QD
matt 27th June 2005, 13:29 sorry for troubling you but would you mind telling me where i can find system tools or maybe you could post it here...? cos i tried doing a search but... no results........
hyperhacker 27th June 2005, 18:04 Here u go "matt" 8)
matt 28th June 2005, 13:09 hey thanks..... will try that trick later.....
iasa 28th June 2005, 15:11 great....
kikomanexe 28th June 2005, 19:58 i doubt that the roms will get any faster.. just look at vsun.. no more updates are coming..
barev 29th June 2005, 01:52 About the System Tools application I would recommend installing it in the phone memory and not in the MMC, because it is not always working when installed on MMC.
fiendishmortal 30th June 2005, 16:41 but this is game boy ADVANCE if they would make an emulator they only could make for this console on s60 cos symbian cant support a better console's emulation bu i havent time to try does the trick speed up the emulator smb plz tell me and shall think 'bout the optimization trick and give me at least a link for their forum
Kenshin3 1st July 2005, 07:54 my 7610 can't play vbag.exe
I tried a lot of times..even I rename the roms 1.gba

snake05 10th July 2005, 12:49 request for vbag1.please upload here
Kassad 10th July 2005, 15:18 there will not be any vbag1 yet mate.. this was only a test to see how it work.
bkallans 10th July 2005, 16:21 Does not work for 3650 then?
silver_2066 10th July 2005, 21:52 thanks
sudomo 10th July 2005, 23:54 I have GBA Compressor. It use to erase non-game file (eg. like movie or any other else that do not affect the game). But it doesn't make any different in speed. Size do not matter, but the frame does. If someone need this software, I can post it.
droytan 11th July 2005, 18:06 hey guys, can anyone tell me where can I download free gba games? i want to download latest gba games like fantastic four etc... pls help. thanks
kikomanexe 11th July 2005, 19:30 try g-masters.com or dgemu.com..
hyparzero 12th July 2005, 04:36 I have GBA Compressor. It use to erase non-game file (eg. like movie or any other else that do not affect the game). But it doesn't make any different in speed. Size do not matter, but the frame does. If someone need this software, I can post it.
could you post it here? I would love to see this "compressor". I am extremely skeptical of such a thing. No programmer in the world could make such a thing without personal assistance from Nintendo themselves.
sudomo 13th July 2005, 22:28 Reduce GBA ROM Size
How works "GBA rom Compression" tool works.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Click on [Add files] and select the roms that you want to resize.
You can select one or multiple rom files - that is the beauty of this
tool. If you want to save space on your computer you could even
"compress" all the games you have, BUT that will cause the roms to
become unrecognizable by renamer tools like GBA-Renamer
2. Click on [Browse] to select the directory where you will save the
resized roms.
I would suggest you save them in a different folder so that you know
which are the original releases and which ones are the games without
with non-required space removed.
3. Tick the [v] Remove intro or trainer if exists
That is if you don't want to use the cheat functions that are added
by a trainer patch.
4. An at the end push the [ GO! ] button to run the tool!
After you do this the rom being worked on will light up in red and
after the tool has analyzed it and removed the unneeded space a
"New size" will be displayed besides the original rim size.
fiendishmortal 14th July 2005, 18:11 this is not what im lookin for but it is still sumthin maybe works better on s60 platform well gotta try it but idont think the frame rate will be affected but worth a try ah
sudomo 14th July 2005, 22:04 I think we can't change the framerate of the roms. I have download new program to delete all adding movies and data which not effect the game when we play it. But I see only small differences with the one that I have post it earlier. I will post it soon.
Kassad 15th July 2005, 01:25 You can never change the framerate of the roms.. And still if you delete movies there will be no changes. Why bother?
snake05 15th July 2005, 04:43 it lags on my ngage
angelofdevotion 16th July 2005, 15:35 I got it!!! Thanks to you guys sooo much!!! now i can play Fullmetal alchemist in my ngage!!
Lordkenny 18th July 2005, 17:52 Vbag...BAG! why do they call it bag?
Strange......Any idea why?
Lordkenny 18th July 2005, 17:56 I think we should wait for the full version of this emu.... :) maybe it can run bigger GBA rom size...
The most biggest gba rom size i've ever seen is 32mb(kingdom's heart - Chains of memory)..I wonder how can one store that big of a file to the MMC?
The_Phone 19th July 2005, 14:16 Great and excellent GBA you got,keep it up..... :)
cellguy 23rd July 2005, 12:31 im tryin it out man but i still can get it rite ill keep a posted

Symlove 3rd August 2005, 11:37 Too slow..just too slow...even on 6680.
mrmotinjo 15th August 2005, 05:52 Problem with those emulators is that the phone's processing power is just not enough to keep'em running :(
Turning off the sound might help, but the game without sound is not the same :(

leo5354 2nd January 2006, 16:03 It's really annoying that a lot of people still questioning same question all over again while it is already been said by others that this emulator can't play anything bigger than 8 MB sized rom. Why can't they read this thread carefully before asking?
nokkia 27th January 2006, 15:29 ????any news????
basilkov 27th January 2006, 16:10 vampent great but tell us if there are any new update for the emulator
Sharaazad 27th January 2006, 16:42 vampent great but tell us if there are any new update for the emulator

ajai_dev 27th January 2006, 19:43 Vbag was just a experiment to show that GBA roms can work on symbian platform through emulation
