NetFront v3.2
Overview

NetFront browsers have connected thousands of beyond-PC devices to the Internet, delivering high performance in environments with limited hardware resources. NetFront supports all important Internet standards and technologies, and has achieved worldwide recognition as the most versatile and powerful Internet browser available in the market. Specifically designed for embedded applications, NetFront is available for multiple platforms and has been deployed in mobile phones, Digital TVs, set-top boxes (STBs), PDAs, Web phones, game consoles, e-mail terminals, automobile telematics systems and many other device types.NetFront supports almost any popular OS or CPU in the beyond-PC world, while offering low power consumption, easy customization and a broad range of plug-ins. With NetFront v3.2, Digital Convergence truly becomes a reality.

The NetFront Advantage

Optimized for Embedded Information Appliances
NetFront was designed from day one to function as an embedded browser. Born from the necessity to render HTML on low-power handsets, NetFront added increasingly powerful functionality to a lean and mean core. NetFront evolved from the embedded device up, rather than being shrunk from the desktop down. NetFront is small in footprint, yet loaded with features. Its compact code size is ideally suited for embedded applications such as real-time cellular telephony, while still supporting desktop-like Web browsing capabilities.

Flexible Configuration and Easy Portability
The highly modular and scalable architecture of NetFront allows developers to pick and choose only needed components for their target devices. Should more memory savings be required, simply remove modules containing code for unneeded functions and the code base and memory requirements are reduced. WML, BML, or SMIL modules are all detachable. Furthermore, should new mark-up support be required, it is extremely easy to add an additional mark-up module. NetFront's high portability is also a key contributor to its dominant deployment in the embedded space. The two key components in NetFront that enable this portability are; 1) SLIM interface, that encapsulates the target platform dependent processes, and 2) AWS (Abstract Window System), the window system API that abstracts the differences in window calls from the underlying operating system. In addition, NetFront can incorporate an exhaustive set of low-level libraries including WAVE, its own windowing system. This means that NetFront can run on the barest of operating systems: if functionality such as Windowing or TCP/IP are unavailable from the host OS, then NetFront modules are used to provide the missing functionality. On operating systems that do provide this functionality, such as PDAs, these libraries are simply stripped out so no unnecessary code is deployed.

Customizable UI and Branding Options
With NetFront's modular architecture, the core browsing engine is completely decoupled from the upper application and user-interface layers. This means the user interface and application layer can be easily modified to suit particular requirements or customization. It is even possible to create a completely new application based on the same core browsing technology used in all NetFront products. This ensures a differentiated product with minimal engineering effort. For the wireless operator, this means that a single consistent application user interface can be defined across all devices. Users will experience almost identical functionality -- regardless of the handset used.

Extensive Plug-in Support
Plug-in modules can easily be integrated via a standardized API to extend browser functionality. Available plug-In modules include Real Networks(R) Helix DNATM Client, Macromedia(R) FlashTM, Adobe(R) Reader(R) among others.
