View Full Version : startup "system error!!" ??? I have your Cure.
smsm 11th July 2005, 06:28 So you are tired of seeing system errors on start-up after you have installed a nasty nasty application. You know what??? I always say every probelm has symptoms and ... What??? you tell me to get into the subject??? ok ok as you wish. These nasty system errors being thrown at you caused by the last program(s) you have installed which tries to operate on startup. So you want to fix it??? first you will need a program to access the file system. SeleQ for example or any similar software.
Now i want you to do the following:
1. Shutdown the phone and remove the MMC.
2. Turn on the phone and if it did not complain "system error!!" then you know the problem is concerning MMC. Shutdown the phone and goto 10.
3. If it complains about "system error!!" NO do not throw it out of the windows yet. Keep the MMC out and open SeleQ.
4. use SeleQ to go to C:\system\programs (programs folder is the one responsile for carrying the processes (applications whatever you name it) to be brought up when the phone is (re)started).
5. Rename the file(s) you suspect causing the problem. You know this by knowing the last programs you have installed (most of times the name of the file(s) express the application).
6. After you find the suspected file, rename it to .bak (for ex. fff.exe would be fff.bak).
7. Restart the phone.
8. If it complains do 4 - 7 again and so on until it does not complain.
9. If it does not complain yay you have done it.
10. Put the MMC back and turn on the phone.
11. If it complains about system error!! do 4 - 7 but instead of going to C:\system\programs you go to E:\system\programs.
12. If does not complain then you are ok. You are over.
13. If you did not solve the problem I have one final solution to you. Delete the E:\system\"programs" folder and restart the phone and if it still do complains delete C:\system\"programs". It won't complains no more. So you ask what am I supposed to do with the applications that i want to be brought when I restart the phone. You can use autoexec application to do that.
That is it
Peace.
Disguy 11th July 2005, 06:31 Nice guide for a rookie man . Will refer to this if i ever encounter this problem.

Doomer D. Great 11th July 2005, 15:41 Nice guide for a rookie man . Will refer to this if i ever encounter this problem.
You never had this problem befor?
Dude, Sweet!!
smsm 11th July 2005, 16:06 cheers geoffrey23 and Doomer D. Great.
I would like to warn everybody not to install the new version of Psiloc miniGPS cause it is one of the apps cause such problem. If you like this software install the old version. I recall that the new version was 1.14.
ceedee 15th July 2005, 01:52 would be nice if it was posted earlier.
solved mine by formatting my mmc.
thanks for the great info.
barbara 15th July 2005, 02:02 hello
and will these programs still work after renaming the files?
thanx
barbara
PS: I did this trick, but it only works half :
- the error at the startup is gone (something like "Csyncserver")
- but I still have a problem: after the phone has started up, when I get the "desktop" of my nokia 6600, I still get the message "system error -12"
is there a solution for this problem too?
THANX A LOT for the help!
barbara
barbara 15th July 2005, 11:15 the systemerror (-12) comes when the phone (6600) has started up and while the "desktop" is loading
Mark 15th July 2005, 17:12 another great guide posted by you mate :) excelent work
topic moved to how to section from symbian apps.br
smsm 15th July 2005, 19:30 Hey barbara, by renaming those files they won't be loaded at startup. Second I want you to rename the folders:
1. C:\system\"programs" to program
2. E:\system\"programs" to program
so C:\system\programs becomes C:\system\program
and so E:\system\programs becomes E:\system\program
and then restart the phone.
I want you to tell me if you still get the system error message.
I want to ask you if you have autoexec program installed on your phone.
If you can post me more information that would be useful (tell me the last applications you have installed if you can remember them).
Peace.
kmasri86 16th July 2005, 01:34 thnx
ludomila 16th July 2005, 01:40 Another easier way that almost always fix that error message is by deleting C:/system/system.ini and restart.
It was posted here in the forum a long time ago and be sure it works several times
However, it's another great solution. Many thanx
smsm 16th July 2005, 02:41 Hey ludomila, thanks for posting :). I think that this method only works for bad system configuration and uninstalled applications. This method worked with wildskins app problem long time ago cause it was uninstalled but left some configuration in the system.ini. If you have experienced such start-up system error problems was solved by using this method with the app(s) causing it installed, I would be happy to hear about it.
Thanks again for posting and ludomila YOU BOUNCE :).
Peace.
Mark 16th July 2005, 02:51 actually that methode ludomila said only works wih minor errors. i do that everytime i get such erros like this system error and very few times it solved the problem.
barbara 16th July 2005, 03:39 Hey barbara, by renaming those files they won't be loaded at startup. Second I want you to rename the folders:
1. C:\system\"programs" to program
2. E:\system\"programs" to program
so C:\system\programs becomes C:\system\program
and so E:\system\programs becomes E:\system\program
and then restart the phone.
I want you to tell me if you still get the system error message.
I want to ask you if you have autoexec program installed on your phone.
If you can post me more information that would be useful (tell me the last applications you have installed if you can remember them).
Peace.
thanx for your advice
on C:\system there is no folder named "programs"
on E:\system there is a folder "programs", but when I rename it or delete it, I get an error while starting up: "App. closed Autostart starter autostart -1"... and when started up the "systemerror (-12)"
when the folder is named (E:\system\)programs, I don't get the message "App. closed Autostart starter autostart -1" while starting up, but the error "systemerror (-12)" remains (while loading up the "desktop"
I have many apps installed on my 6600, I really don't know which one was installed last... (it is long ago)
under the folder E:\system\programs, the are 2 subfolders, one named "btserver" (bluetoothserver" and the other one named "cellserver"
all the files under E:system\programs have been renamed (since renaming them I dont get the message "app closed syncsserver" while starting up anymore)
when I rename one of the two folders (or files in those folders), I get that message "App. closed Autostart starter autostart -1" while starting up...
so I guess it is one of those programs?
the problem is that I do not know which apps correspond wit those folders/files
could you help please?
PS: when I put out the MMC card, there is no problem at all
PPS: I see that there is also a folder named "programs" onder the Z:drive (Z:\system\programs) (I only get a Z:drive with FExplorer (=rom); with Fileman there is no Z:drive); can I rename this one or is that too dangerous?
THANKS A LOT for the support!
barbara
smsm 16th July 2005, 06:56 I guess I found out why you are experiencing such problem. I want you to do the following:
1. Rename program folder back to programs.
2. Start your phone at ((safe mode)).
3. Go to Tools - Manager
4. Remove AutoStart.
5. Open SeleQ (or any other file manager).
6. Delete E:\system\programs\"cLoaderDaemon.exe" file.
7. Restart your phone.
That is it. I hope this fix your problem. One last thing do not install AutoStart again.
Peace :)
Note: Z: Drive is ROM (Read-Only Memory) meaning you cannot modify it.
barbara 16th July 2005, 14:29 I removed the program autostart (it was a small app., 1kB)
but there is no file named cLoaderDaemon.exe in E:\system\programs
and now when I startup I still get the message "App. closed Autostart starter autostart -1" :( (and when started up the "systemerror (-12)" )
what could be wrong?
thanx again!
barbara
Note: I also removed the apps. "btserver" and "cellserver"
barbara 16th July 2005, 16:44 UPDATE:
in the meanwhile, I found another app. installed: autoexecDaemon
I deleted it with Manager
NOW the situation is :
- I can rename the folder E:\system\programs without having the error "App. closed Autostart starter autostart -1" anymore
- also the "systemerror syncsserver" is gone
- BUT the "systemerror (-12)" is still here
I get that message when the phone has already started up, while the "desktop" is loading up
what could it be?
very very thankful!
barbara
smsm 16th July 2005, 23:19 Go to Tools - Manager and remove AutoExec. Tell me what happens next :)
barbara 17th July 2005, 00:01 but I had already removed Autoexec
and the systemerror 12 is still there...
there are some apps named "common..."
could it be one of these?
smsm 17th July 2005, 05:14 You have deleted autoexecDaemon which is a part of the the main AutoExec. Delete AutoExec if you have not delete it. If this does not work, delete c:\system\system.ini (cause I think there is misconfiguration in it) and restart two times. Tell me what happens then.
Peace :).
Note1: tell me about the common... apps.
Note2: try renaming the programs folder to program and restart. Tell me if you still get the system error. If you still get it name it back to programs.
barbara 17th July 2005, 16:34 hello!!
there is no app. named autoexec (in the tools - manager list)
I deleted the C:\system\system.ini file and restarted my 6600 3 times but the system error (-12) is still there ...
renaming the programs folder to program doesn't help neither...
about the common apps.: there are three: Common Connector (54 kB), Common About (22kB) and CommonLicenser0 (11kB)
I never installed them, so it must be apps. that have been installed together with something else...
I hope I don't take too much of your time?
THANX a lot for all your help!
greetings
barbara
smsm 17th July 2005, 19:17 Go to C:\system\bootdata and move all the files there to anywhere also.
Restart the phone. After that if that did not solve your problem move back the files. Tell me what happens next.
:)
barbara 17th July 2005, 22:39 hello smsm!
now it is solved!
no more errors!
THANX a lot!!
but I have a problem: I deleted all the files in C:\system\bootdata (instead of moving them)
is that bad? what were those files?
I hope I didn't lose any important information?
but again: thanks a 1000 times!
PS: if it was that easy, why didn't you tell me this at first? ;) :) (joke)
greetings
barbara
smsm 18th July 2005, 09:03 First congragts on solving the problem :). There is no problem deleting them since the system will generate them again and you have not lost any of your information. Lastly You are welcome anytime :).
Peace :)
barbara 19th July 2005, 21:55 hello smsm!
I have 2 new requests for you :)
if you have a solution for these requests, maybe you can make new posts "how to..." of them?
1.) I want to clean up the C:\ drive of my nokia 6600;
I mean, I want to delete all the stuff that is useless (such as temporary files)
I also noticed that some apps., even if you install them in E:\, they put some files into C:\
I want to delete these files
In fact I want to delete everything in the C-drive that shouldn't be there for the phone to work properly
(how much space does the phone use for itself?)
and
2.) Lately I had formatted my 6600
After formatting, I noticed that all the java games and apps. didn't work anymore, even though they were installed on the MMC card (which one was not formatted)
the java apps. still have icons on the phone but they won't start up
now, is there a possibility to make them work again?
I know that there is a directory where all the java stuff is saved, from which you can re-install all of it
but isn't there any solution to make the java apps work without re-installing all of them?
and if not, is there a possibility to delete the icons because they are useless...
PS: is it normal that when you install a java app., that a directory is made where the jar-file is saved? isn't that a waste of space?
THANX A LOT AGAIN!!
big greetings
barbara
benjiro_isozaki 30th July 2005, 19:45 very great but i have more problem.. my ngage first error is "app.closed etelserver" 2nd : system error 3rd system error again.. please cure the etelserver please.. thx
nuox 30th July 2005, 19:56 about the common apps.: there are three: Common Connector (54 kB), Common About (22kB) and CommonLicenser0 (11kB)

This package come from psiloc applications ?
smsm 1st August 2005, 04:58 Hey barbara,
1. I can do such a tutorial IF AND ONLY IF I have installed every single app on my phone and then see for myself what is the app is leaving behind (which would be impossible). For apps leaves files on C: (although you have installed the app on E:), most of them do not leave large files. They leave small files only for settings. A solution to the apps that leave trash is writing an app that monitors apps (or file system in terms of IT profs) and then check the trash file generated by apps and then remove it.
2. for java games, the files you see are not a backup of app (or game). What you see in ?:\system\midp\????\????\* is the app (or game) itself. You see, the system copies the app (or game) to the mentioned folder. If you are want to delete the icons and save space at the same time:
1. goto ?:\system\midp\
2. check for the app (or game) in there. You will find it deep in one of the folders.
3. delete the folder contating the app (or game).
that is it.
benjiro_isozaki refer to app. closed solution on this forum and then follow my tutorial from the beginning.
nuox I guess yes, it comes from psiloc apps.
Peace all.
leeuss 1st August 2005, 05:58 nice tips, may be this can help to fix my Ngage.

but where can I find these trashfiles?
thanx!

barbara 2nd August 2005, 02:42 sorry, double post :)
M_Naeem 13th August 2005, 15:30 i also got this nasty prblem in nokia3230. the set stopped taking text input.then i entered the code *#7370# it broght the set into realy factory setting.
M_Naeem 17th August 2005, 13:03 Hi guys..i also got "system error" after installing a application. then i used the code *#7370#.
it restored my cell to that state wen i first on the mobile but erased all my mobile new stored contents in phone memory.
benjiro_isozaki 4th September 2005, 13:48 I guess I found out why you are experiencing such problem. I want you to do the following:
1. Rename program folder back to programs.
2. Start your phone at ((safe mode)).
3. Go to Tools - Manager

smsm, i always can't turn on my phone in safe mode! is there any sign that we are in safe mode?? just holding de' pencil key right??
benjiro_isozaki 9th October 2005, 08:15 yes yes.. i always got 2 system error word everytime i turn on my phone.. thanks
weeman 14th October 2005, 11:43 I don't think the method that has been posted is safe because some of those files on System/Programs are needed by the application you have installed for them to automatically run when you start the phone, if you encounter system error you've got to have MMC Card Reader and use Unmakesis and extract files from apps that you installed then overwrite the files on System/Programs so the file that have been damage because of conflict with another file would be refresh. It works for me, i just don't know if it'll work for you.
Blongroup 27th May 2006, 12:58 Hey do you guys know how to delete file in my ngage mmc...it says when i want to delete it from my mmc reader ""cannot delete ...cannot find specified file .Make sure you specify the correct path and file name"".!!!!plsss I hate to reformat my mmc once more
